- The nature of football is that players move from club to club. This often leaves supporters with replica shirts with unwanted players names and numbers on the back, this can often be expensive and once the player is gone the shirt becomes redundant.
Here are 3 methods on how to remove those names and numbers and make the shirt wearable again.
Thanks dude. I am removing v.persie from my arsenal shirt
Hi mate I have the same problem with vpersie on my back. I have the blue one from the 125 anniversary season (2011/12) and the patch looks pretty solid and thick. Did you do it like on this video and the shirt wasnt damaged? Cheers
Michal Maly Hi Michal I still have no time to try it. But once i finished it. I will tell you the result as soon as possible. :P
the legend says that chow ryan is still working on that
That's a shame v persie did a lot for you guys
chow ryan 😀😀😀
Thanks for posting, just removed names and numbers off two old shirts with felt lettering done by the football club using the iron method, carefully applying heat straight to the lettering slowly peals them away and lifts the glue residue also. Def one for the less heavy handed but does work nicely, thanks again
Burnt my shirt with the hairdryer, thanks for the tip mate.
I have to tell you- THIS IS BETTER AND QUICKER: I JUST did this and it worked PERFECTLY- take a steamer and apply it directly to the letters/logo that you want removed, repeatedly brush over and over and eventually you'll see the material start to peel and roll right off!!! I figured it had to do with heat and after trying several other ideas, I saw my wifes steamer across the room and I'M TELLING YOU- IT'S AMAZINGLY FAST AND EASY! Anyway, give it a try, let me know.
You mean iron steamer?

@@weedo4269 Yeah what a nonce
This video is about to sky rocket in views now that Di Maria left United lol
Also about to do this after the special united comeback :)
Great video. How to remove glue residue. Put some rubbing alcohol on the glue. Let sit. Remove with clean cloth. Perfect. I asked a pro lettering shop for advice. This worked great to remove glue residue. Hope this helps someone.
you're a legend rob. we need heros like you
seen you on a couple of other videos as well haha
@@suiiman-le2of Thanks. You are all to kind. Best of luck. Take care.
@@suiiman-le2of It is funny and embarrassing at same time. I asked a pro letteing company how they do it, they do it, they did it flawlessly, showed me, then I looked for other ideas/videos, just in case, for more options.. I offered simple option I was told . I was asked to elaborate, then ended up everywhere (many videos) , not my intention at all, but me looking for options. Kind of embarrassing, as my intention was not to run around posting, but it looks that way, so kind of embarrassing, but if it helps someone and works as good as I saw, and experienced, awesome. All the best.
@@robcourtnall5332 Hi, where could you buy rubbing alcohol? Do you mean like a 100% isopropylalcohol solution? Thanks for your help!
Use acetone on the inside of the shirt, where the lettering is. Peel off without markings visible. Wash after.
Really ?
@@pc6054yes this works
No, its a mess, really, my 6 years beloved backpack is bleach, ruined
I'd also like to know if you can do this to remove sponsors. I hate being a walking advert.
+YumYumYogurt If it's a screen-printed or vinyl logo, then this method will work. If it's been sublimated directly into the jersey, then there nothing's you can do without destroying the fabric, unfortunately.
YumYumYogurt does it work?
thanks dude. I am removing lukaku from my inter shirt
Thanks mate! Will try this on my Liverpool Jersey with Torres 9 on it ASAP!
Ahahhaahhahahaha
Whyyy that’s a legendary shirt lol
TURN THE IRON DOWN ALL THE WAY!! just burned a hole in the shirt within 2 seconds :(
Andrew Ruiz aww that sucks.
Nosaveddata stfu u probably work in mc Donald’s
I bought a Di Maria united shirt, and seeing as he's probably off to PSG, I'll have to do this.
Dimitri Hermantas did it work ?
USE NAIL POLISH REMOVER
if you use heat you run the risk of burning your shirt or permanently melting the letters on your jersey
STEPS:
1. acquire nail polish remover and cotton balls
2. DAMPEN cotton ball (you'll need a good bit of it)
3. FROM THE INSIDE OF THE SHIRT rub where the letters are, if you rub from the outside you can bleed the ink from the letters onto your shirt and then staining it (i learned this the hard way), from the inside you can get to the root of the glue much quicker
4. rub until the area of the shirt is damp with the nail polish remover
5. once damp remove letters by GENTLY rubbing the corners (rubbing too hard will make ink from the letters stain your shirt), it should come off easily. If it does not come off easily use more remover and repeat the steps above
6. wash your jersey like you normally would
EXTRA: if you stain your shirt you should be able to remove the stain using conventional methods
comment if you guys want a video
Could you upload a video of it please mate
I get it but I want a video lol
You'd be doomed if you've got Vennegoor of Hesselink at the back of your shirt!
Underrated comment😂
I'm trying to get rid of a Janjetovic
I got Mitroglou in a Fulham shirt...
If you have an ironing board you could always have threaded the shirt over the board
sexydoughnuts Can you do this with sponsors as well? I got my Juve shirt and I'm trying to move the ugly Jeep sign. Thanks.
That's the best part of the Juventus jersey....
Would this work in removing the advertising/branding from the front of the shirt as well?
Acetone is a fantastic way of doing it as well.I've taken off many names off shirts with great success.
Is it okay if i used it on a Black Jersey with White printed names and numbers?
Hi, I think it should be possible using this method, you may need to apply a little more heat/pressure, but be careful not to burn or mark the shirt doing it.
I have heard of spraying carburetor cleaner (get from halfords) on the reverse of the name/number, this works by melting the glue, and it might come away a bit easier, but it does leave a smell and possibility of a stain. All the best.
Thanks, might use this on my Firmino shirt after his recent form
The logo was flock printed (same technique with player's name at the back).
I recommend this technique but be aware that there will still be a tiny tiny tiny barely noticeable mark where the logo used to be. But even though, I really prefer my shirt now with no commercial !
Thx again
Not really sure, I haven't seen the new shirt with Wonga sponsor up close. If it's a felt like material, you could risk it, if it's a plastic type of print it may not work too well and end up ruining the shirt long term.
Hello. awesome method thanks for the share. So i just do the iron method to remove all the glue?
Amazing video! thanks! I removed name &number with hair dryer. Is it possible to put on it other Nameset & number? where were the number & name it's now just black leftovers. Regards
absolutely worked! However is there any way to remove the adhesive stain mark that's left on the jersey ?(The spot that was removed)
I read on other sites that soaking it in rubbing alcohol works beautifully. You need to rub it off, naturally.
hey i did the iron trick and it worked thanks but like yours there where glue marks still showing the name is there a way to get rid of the glue
Hi !
I've tried your method with the front sponsor "betclic" of my 2011 olympique lyonnais football shirt.
It worked pretty well with the iron.
Almost no residue, the only thing is that the fabric become a little bit slack where you use the iron but it's barely noticeable.
I've put the shirt in the washing machine hoping that it will solve this issue.
Anyway, thanks a lot, great tutorial.
Any update?👀
any news?
i think use the thinner water washing and remove the name set is better than that.the way is using the q-tips smear some thinner water in the number back, remove that letter on the surface after 10-15 seconds ago is done
methylene chloride is a solvent specifically for the removal or vinyl-based adhesive iron-on graphics. it takes just mere seconds to remove the graphic AND the adhesive. it loosens the bond of the adhesive.
also, it will usually not cause fading or bleeding of color, so you should be safe.
I think I'll use the hair dryer method, the iron one could end in tears.
I presume it works equally well with sticker numbers as ones made from felt...?
Hello mate, I have got a question. I was fighting with my iron for a week, finally I made it and there is no longer any name on my shirt. The only problem is that there is still some white mark, probably glue or something. Can you tell me how to remove it? Id like to put my name on it after it will be clean. Cheers
rubbing alchohol
Thank you for your help!
+Maciek J did this work
+Lewis Artley I tried iron method. gently try to remove the name with the top of the iron, name is gone! cheers
thanks, romelu lukaku has to go from my shirt after his CL fiasco and juventus flirting
what temp setting is the direct hot method at the end of the clip?
Does this method work on both types of lettering?? Velvet (sencilla) and plastic??
I've tried both the hair dryer and the iron but the letters don't appear to want to come off at all, it gets so hot that the shirt is too hot to touch so that can't be the issue! It's almost like they are welded on! any ideas?
use iron method + add some acetone or thinner to remove glue. add it a little at the back of the font that you want to remove
Ok dude,I'll try because i have an AC Milan shirt, and the name is Kaka, and in Romania kaka/caca=shit :((
CrazyRO Ahahaha. Te-ar fi ajutat cu stima de sine.
Bahah in french caca is shit as well!
hahaha in spanish caca is shit as well and is pronounced same as kaka
hahahha same in latin america never thought in a far away country lool
Basically in a all romantic languages caca probables means shit haha
Will this work with a hockey jersey and vinyl lettering that was pressed on?
Good advice! Thanks from the USA
hey pal what is the temperature of the iron should be when removing the letters and names?
Hi mate, it should be fairly hot, but remember to only use the edge of the iron, not full on, otherwise a danger of melting the shirt.
Might try this because i put my own name on an 18/19 shirt, should I?
Does it work for regular t shirts? Like cotton maybe?
I'm glad it was of use, Interesting that the front sponsor came off okay, because from what I have seen of pictures of that shirt, is it not printed? Hope the washing machine turns out okay.
I even tried to use the edge of the hot iron but it seems the shirt is about to melt. What else I can do to remove the name and number?
alot of united fans need this atm
Use a solvent with methylenchloride/dichloromethane., the vinyl will get off almost instantly. Be careful though. Use gloves and spread the solvent with a cloth. Apply it on the letter for both side of the garment.
Do you think i can do with a Umbro 2012 jersey, the tailored one and more cotton % than other jerseys
Does the shirt have to be damp for the direct iron to letter method?
Please help! I have an authentic man united shirt with di maria on the back. I used nail polish remover (faster than iron) and the white from the lettering started to peel off. However once i started peeling more and more there was a black backing underneath the white vinyl that wont come off and it wont budge. It has a hard velvety texture to it. What do i do coz the shirt looks stupid now and it was bloody expensive, help!
did you find solution?
What about using Isopropyl alcohol to get rid of glue?
I've got a shirt in which the sponsor just came off my itself after a few washes but the glue is still on with the ghost mark. Is there a way to get rid of the ghost?
How do I get the remainders or the glue tho. I did this with a black rucksack and the glue really sticks out.
would it be ok to heat press another layer of the same name number over the old one, my ronaldinho jersey the number is changing colors on the stripes, I have an extra set of name and number, I don't know if I should just heat press it on top of the old one?
Can you do also with Hockey jersey. It's screen print on cotton jersey.?
Does this damage the Iron at all or leave a residue on it?
So that's great for Newcastle fans, but what about for Villa shirts?
you have to keep the hairdryer on the spot a little longer, usually you use a heat gun for this! also you should use tweezers and not a knife. it's a cleaner process and takes way less time!
Thanks! I'm going to try this. I have a #11 Philadelphia Eagles shirt that says Wentz (our former QB). I'm going to remove that name and replace it with Brown (AJ Brown, our wide receiver). Wish me luck!
Does he have the iron on while he is doing this ?
yep
Are this letters really plasticy or not? Because my sticker/logo on shirt is very gum like
Well, removing name and number could reduce the price if you want to sell it with famous signatures on the shirt.
I have an away Barcelona kit, I'm wondering if this will work to remove the "Qatar Airways" from the front without residue
today i'm gonna try to remove Dani Alves from FC Barcelona t-shirt. i'm gonna try the damp cloth and iron, or the cooking oil methods. After that if all good, i'm gonna try te remove the glue with some alcohol.
I believe u could also use acetone. Should work wonders on the glue.
Big help mate! I'm gonna try it as I bought a MAN U shirt and have mistakenly write the spelling when I ordered online. Once my shirt has arrived I'll do this. Cheers!
Nightmare, Good luck with it mate.
Ahh, it was the wrong colour and meant to be MAN C when you ordered, right? ;)
POPOYBOLROG That wasn't the worst mistake. The worst mistake you made was getting a Manchester United shirt altogether :P
Hi !
Has anybody here tried this technique on a Nike VaporKnit shirt, by any chance ? Would it work or not ( not only to remove names and numbers but also for front or sleeves sponsoring for instance ) as well on the VaporKnit fabric as in the Replica fabric ?
Thanks for the help !
how to remove the glue remaining after ?
Did you ever get an answer on how to remove the glue? If so, please share it.
lindaewartful um nope
Bobser lindaewartful apparently Rubbing alcohol works....check www.ehow.com/how_6772417_remove-vinyl-letters-clothing.html
O
Is it the same for PL badge on the sleeve?
How much polyester is the shirt made of? 100%?
this has saved me from getting a brick lobbed at my head (mason greenwood)
How would you remove a sponsor logo? I want to de-Qatar a Barca shirt.
did you ever get an answer for this, mate? i'm trying to do the same thing
What setting do you have your iron on?
Could I use this method on a compression shirt with say a Nike logo?
I love Real Madrid but I hate Fly Emirates so this has given me hope :) Im definitely buying this season's blue jersey and removing that ridiculous logo on the front. Thanks for the tutorial.
what if you don't have a hair dryer, can you use any other house appliances?
this should work with a bag too right?
Be careful using an iron directly on something sticky, it may stick to the iron and burn
Is this method safe on hooded sweatshirts?
Thanks I’m removing lukaku from my chelsea shirt
how long did it take you to do that?
I need to do this. I have an arsenal away jersey with 'V.Persie- 10'.
Did it work?
Did he mention what setting the iron is suppose to be on? Low or hi or about what temp?
I would suggest starting at the lowest setting on your iron. If that doesn't have an effect, turn it up to the next setting and try it again. Repeat until you notice that the lettering/image is starting to pull away, and once it does, use that setting on the rest of the shirt.
+Megan Coyle I put it on the highest setting and it works very well. thanks
Do the letters material stick to the iron or not
some people use cooking oil behind the sticker then left for few hours and few hours later just pealing out the sticker
Did you try it?
Does it work?
how long do u blow dry(seeing in a lot of comments that people keep burning their shirts)
Lol getting ready to do this with my Pogba Juventus jersey
😂😂
Unlucky pal
+MUFC01 WTF I just bought mine today lmao the pink pogba
same. lost a lot of respect for him
Did you damage the shirt?
Can you take the sponsors of the front of the shirt ?
But what if the print is old and has already stick onto the cloth?
Can this be done with a rash guard?
does this work with a wrestling singlet?
Does this also work on basketball shirts?
no yoo huv too burn thos
Does it work for fleece Numbers/Letters
Et..? Comment fait on pour acheter.. un news tee-shirts ?..
Time to take Adebayor off of my Arsenal jersey. Thanks m8.
how did you remove the glue thats left on the shirt?
I can make a video response if you want so you can help to see what I'm talking about, the number is originally yellow, I have a barcelona home jersey, but on the blue stripes, the yellow of the number turned green, and on the red stripes it stayed yellow so it looks dumb
just use acetone
how would you do it and preserve the letters you take off ?
just buy some for cheap off ebay!!
How can I get the rest of the glue off?
To be honest I haven't tried that, it would be a trial and error I think, some may be easier than others as some are printed, whereas some are raised felt. Would recommend buying a shirt with a similar type of sponsor from a charity shop/car boot and trying it before actually doing it on your own shirt. Let me know how you get on.
Thanks bro I’ll remove mbappe’s name from my real madrid t-shirt
how can I make the number and name of my Jersey black again?
