Hi. Thanks for this. I'm having the same issue but caused by having moved the files to a new hard drive. how do I reconnect? Much obliged and thanks for the great content!
Were the files AMA-linked into the project? If so, changing to a new hard drive is going to knock them offline (different scenario from what I cover in the video). You'll need to relink the AMA. Below is an article by Avid. Check out the other articles listed at the bottom of that article too. Not sure your exact details but those might answer your question. Good luck and I hope that helps! avid.secure.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/how_to/How-to-relink-to-original-media-file
Brilliant. My entire project was offline. I had cloned the MXF File drive. I followed your instruction and deleted the database files. the majority of the files came back on-line. Question, should I do this with every folder?
Hi Marco. It's hard to say without seeing your drive but I would imagine so. You may have to throw all the MXF files into the "1" or whatever your computer name's bin is if you're working off a shared environment and delete the database files again. If you're on like a NEXIS or Facilis shared system, the other folders won't re-index because you aren't on that specific system. If you throw them all into your computer's folder and re-index then they should all pop up. Fingers crossed for you!
Thank you! Do you mean AMA linking? If so, once I upgrade to the new Media Composer (finally later this summer) - that’s one of the tutorials on my radar.
This method didn't work. Is it because I have everything saved to an SSD external drive? if so, do I need to download the software to the external drive to make it connect? or is because the free trial version and won't let me edit?
Using version 22, however my project is still not showing the media files. I do have the mp4s on my drive, but I don't think it's going to recreate the mxf files. Isn't there the AMA thing that gets around that? I do have 2 2GB mxf files, figured from years ago that I needed them, so I kept them. This is a project was was opened way back in 2018.
Hi, great tutorial. I did all your steps, and the media is no longer offline however it's just showing a green screen. Any idea what the issue could be here?
Hi Alexandra. Are you using a new computer? Avid is probably missing an AMA plug-in for the footage type. You can find them all here: avid.secure.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/compatibility/en284291
I was sent an Avid project and the files on a separate drive. So the MXF files are on a different drive. How do I tell Avid look at this drive not the original source drive? And can I re import the original footage, making a new MXF and tell Avid link to this new one? I know Adobe can do it? Thanks dude!
Hi Josh, I've got my linked files offline, while the mxf transcodes I'm editing on are online. How do I get the linked files back online? I've never moved or renamed them from the original source file path. Thanks!
Great video! Thanks! But I've got a different problem: my media's offline, but when I looked in the Avid MediaFiles-MXF-1 folders, I didn't find any .mxf files for the current project, just for an older project. How do I re-index? And on another note, I came from Final Cut 6 to Avid 8.x (8.8.0 now). In FCP 6, I could designate where the media/reference files went at the beginning. I'd like to do the same with Avid when I start projects so new project files don't mix with old ones. How do I do that?
Hey Phil. Want to send me a message through my website? That's kinda hard to explain in the RUclips comments. I have a small write-up I can email you. www.editvideofaster.com/contact/
How is that a clip with an effect eg 3D warp show as offline ( I have clip color checked for offline) but plays fine in the timeline. When I step into the effect the clip is online and not red. Thanks
Hey Rick. I think the Precompute (I think that's what it's called) is missing -- basically the Render MXF file. Avid doesn't know where it is. Try this: 1) Render the effect. 2) If that doesn't work, remove the effect then reapply it. Give me a shout if neither of those work.
@@EditVideoFaster tried both - no luck. It is only annoying because when exporting file I get the warning of offline media. I then have to carefully check the whole timeline to make sure there really isn't something offline. thanks for the response.
@@rickbroat3260 Oh! I know what you mean. I've had this happen before too. The render file is actually there but something underneath isn't. I bet if you were to roll the clip by a frame by hitting the period or coma key then it would actually be offline. If that happens just hit Cmd/Ctrl+Z and it should pop back online. Is there another effect, like a 3rd party plugin, that was used that the 3D warp is sitting on top of? That's where I've seen it before. But as long as it's not *actually* offline, don't mess with it and maybe leave yourself a marker saying it's there. Yeah it's tedious and I wish I had an answer for you.
@@EditVideoFaster no luck there either - I have deleted the effect and and tried other effects and no problem. Either adding a new 3D warp or re-applying the original 3D warp give the clip offline color. Appreciate your efforts-
@@rickbroat3260 Last suggestion (obviously don't have to try it) -- Give the clip a video mixdown then apply the 3D warp? Not ideal but might be worth a shot.
Are the two database files back after relaunching Avid? If yes, then maybe media is on a different drive? If no, then you probably have something wrong in the file path like a folder name.
You saved my senior film. Thank you so much 🙏
Happy to hear that! You’re welcome, Chris. Good luck!
Thanks so much for this, I was as few minutes away from a meltdown before finding this video.
You're quite welcome! So happy I was able to help you. Hope you got your media back online.

Great tutorial Josh. I wonder if you can also make a tutorial about Linkling and Batch importing. Thank you.

If you ARE using a shared computer like I am, where can you find the name that you switch the folder name to?
Thank you! It worked!
Great! 🍻

Then yeah, I would bet you’re missing a plug-in. Start with the AVCHD and Sony XDCAM ones first.

avid is way to finicky to be a decent option. its lost in the 90's
deleted those 2 files, did not help, still see Media Offline
