It really was a strange mix of emotions once we crossed the border. Relief, melancholy, nostalgia....pretty hard to describe really. It was an amazing trip, and a great way to spend two months....
Great Video! This journey and all its memories/emotions are beyond words. I did the trip in '01 and i still think about it daily. It was great reliving through your video, thanks.
hahaha, this is the funniest cycling trip video i ever watched, one smoking and the other one drinking haha, and very very nice music, i realy enjoyed everything
wow! looks amazing ! just got a 2016 kona sutra (last years model on sale) and a bob yak. hoping to tour this summer vancouver island then fairy to prince rupert then rupert to Kelowna
After reading the comments; would like to add...I am 73 years ....still long distance tour... and will be on the divide trail within the next couple months! Solo I am sure!
Sorry I'm not too quick with RUclips...in any case check out the Adventure Cycling Association. This is where we got the maps from, they are terrific: www.adventurecycling.org/cyclosource-store/route-maps/?p:current=3
+Thomas Miller Hard to say. The trailer was added resistance and weight, but less weight on the bike and easier to take off for side trips. The panniers are hard to do on a mountain bike with suspension. If you want to ultralight, bikepacking with framebags could work well...
funny, I started the clip because of the Yak-Trailer, went short away and when I came back to watch, the clip was almost finished. Then, I had a "deja vu". In 1994 I crossed the US from Miami to San Diego. If I am right (??) you crossed at 10.00 - end the Border from AZ to CA. Is there still the sign "not to take Fruits" into CA? Anyway, you did a nice Trip and Greets from Switzerland
When I see people do these long rides I often wonder how they got back home. For me, it would involve flying to one place, then flying home.....both very cost prohibitive endeavors. I'm not much for hitching rides in this day and age, too sketchy in my book. Nonetheless, the divide trail is on my bucket list...not necessarily all of it, but maybe parts/sections at different times.
fabulous. One question, my son is doing this ride later this year, where would be a good stretch to join him fro 3-4 days? Downhill-ish, relatively level, but beautiful! I am more of a runner then a cyclist.
ive crossed Europe twice in my 60's one ride rode from Wimbledon to crete Greece in 25 days . using rear german ortlieb panniers great quality waterproof bags.. I tried out a Chinese copy of a BOB trailer but had problems with carrying the large bag as mine is a copy it doesn't have suspension and the bag weight of 18kgs total makes the cradle with the nylon bushings twist and the trailer leans over and falls sideways. I gues the American BOB doesn't give that problem. so I went back to rear panniers only. I rode from londont to berlin in only 12 days. I had a heart attack at age 63 and was in a coma but after 3 months in hospital I decided to retire. I git a dog from the doggie home bought a doggie hut " trailer for him a cross English springer x border collie hes a handful real hyper . we planning a ride from devon uk to spain and return by ferry. not advisable to go to ferry ports like dover to callais because of the economic refugees . they attacking people now probably steal your ride just to get into the tunnel or on the English channel ferry. I always carry nunchuks for survival and a good berger knife just for a bit of law and order. thankyou for this wonderful video the scenery was amazing. keeping my hyper unning dog Charlie cowboy pants in his trailer is another story he doesn't like it and will run all the way to spain adios happy cycling.
Where was your source for the bike maps for the divide trail? Am preparing my gear for it; wish to start from Cruces to Lordsburg ; to trailhead and n orth in a few months from now?
+www.travel-video.photos We decided to go Norht-South, and I believe that may be more common. It comes down to timing with the snow in the Colorado passes, and avoiding the rain in New Mexico I think with the sticky clay.....check out www.adventurecycling.org/ they have lots of resources (and the maps for the route)
Looks like you guys had a great journey! Also, as a novice to cycling I was wondering about the discrepancy between your packing styles- Did you guys team-pack supplies in the carriers and trade off or are the guys riding with the light loads really only carrying all their gear in that?
+tafka92 We did 'team-pack' a lot of the food, with two guys sharing a trailer one day on, one day off. One guy (with the hybrid) went ultra-light...and he was carrying all his gear. If you want to learn more about ultra-light, he got a lot of inspiration from this guy www.rayjardine.com/index.shtml
Two of the guys shared a trailer (and also shared a small tent). Two of us had our own trailers (as our seat post racks failed early) and one guy went ultra light and rode on a cross bike (which just two front paniers in the rear).
at 7:56 minutes into this video... Did you travel with/bring your cat along? what's up with the kitty pack;-? I didn't see it in any other part of the video... Did you know cat's are more alert to other animals than dogs? you just have to know your cat well enough to rely on it as a watch-Guard.......
+David Shaw The cat was a stray/abandoned cat we found on the side of the road, that ran up to us when we stopped for water. We rode with it fro a couple of days until we found a play that could take care of it properly.
It really was a strange mix of emotions once we crossed the border. Relief, melancholy, nostalgia....pretty hard to describe really. It was an amazing trip, and a great way to spend two months....

Awesome journey, makes me very glad I just bought my Bob Ibex and can't wait to take it on the road!

@zipppychickk
The Appalachian Trail (AT) is strictly pedestrian and it takes 4 to 6 months to hike
Congratulations guys. Grettings from México.
Which are the music tracks on the video?
Great video.
I'm trying to decide on a touring trailer.
Were you happy with the BOB trailers you used. I'm considering the IBEX model.
Thanks, Paul
Excellence!
So what in your opinion is the best way to go, bikepacking it all onto the bike, using a trailer, or panniers?
+Thomas Miller Hard to say. The trailer was added resistance and weight, but less weight on the bike and easier to take off for side trips. The panniers are hard to do on a mountain bike with suspension. If you want to ultralight, bikepacking with framebags could work well...
Thomas Miller I was just thinking that the trailers look more aerodynamic. I think when I tour I'll use a trailer instead of panniers.

+karen tyrrell Hi Karen! How did their trip go and did you get to join him along the way?
He did the entire trip with a friend and a tag along... he also rode from San Diego to Florida (a year ago) and Vancover to Mexico...
+karen tyrrell Sorry I missed this, I hope you were able to join him! Wyoming and southern new Mexico have more flat I believe....

Was it fun? I bought one to ride around Maui. I had a great time but I didn't take it off road really.
Sure was thanks!
Right on!

Cool trip and video!
What direction is the best? North-South, or South-North in terms of wind and elevation profile?

I always wanted to fabricate a single wheel trailer like that for my motorcycle.
Did you guys switch off/ take turns with trailer duty?
One person looks like they are riding with not much gear.
Two of the guys shared a trailer (and also shared a small tent). Two of us had our own trailers (as our seat post racks failed early) and one guy went ultra light and rode on a cross bike (which just two front paniers in the rear).
yup sure did
I'd love too cycle some of this, anyone else planning a ride?
Marin Bobcat Trail?
Treiler ou alforge?
what bikes are you guys riding?
