Thank you Richard for a very informative video! You were precise, video shots were visible so the viewer could see what you were doing, and your technique of removing the old glass strut made changing out the struts so much easier. Again thank you!
Hi again! Installed It yesterday! Just a tip: the inner holes of the arms i bought came with a white grease. I think just removing the old grease is enough. TKS again!
Really helpful, have a 2007 and same clips, thought I was going to have to take brackets off. So glad I watched your vid took me 5 minutes to do both for cost of parts £21, dealership wanted over £100 to supply and fit!!!
You are most welcome. I am glad to know I could help you. Thank you for watching, commenting and the kind words. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀
Hey richard what is the name of the octagon looking piece to the rear window at 2:25 to where the lift support locks on. I need to get another because it came off my window
No idea what it's called (rear window support post?) I suggest that you go to your local salvage yard and harvest one from there. Make sure you take tools you need to get it off. Thank you so much for commenting. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀

+bmwnasher LOL. It annoys me to no end when things don't work correctly and this rear glass door not working correctly was driving me nuts. I bought the Santa Fe weeks ago but have not been able to get to this repair as the Christmas season has been eating up my auto repair time. Finally getting it done was satisfying. BTW this glass window feature is missing on the new Santa Fe's and Kia SUV's you have to open the whole door to access the cargo compartment. I am going to replace the suspension components too (tie rod ends, control arm bushings, ball joints and Suspension Stabilizer Bar Links) But first I need to inspect all of them for wear. Thanks.
Im the same i like things to work correctly, my BM is a touring, and the tailgate glass opens the same, on mine if the car is locked there is a button on the key fob that releases the glass, and when you close it the alarm resets, i`ll look foward to the suspension videos, ps that was funny with the guy about the wipers i couldn`t stop laughing. My brothers wife bought a VW Tiguan diesel a few months back, our road tax is based on vehicle emissions now if that is giving out more they will pay more tax, our government is looking into it, and it looks like VW are in for a hard time, there`s all sorts going on with VW owners here, loads of solicitors and action groups getting up steam.
+bmwnasher I run into guys like the wiper guy on a regular basis to his credit he was polite which is better than most so I gave him the time of day. Most times when they are rude or belligerent (or both) I delete the comment and move on. They can't dock you for VW's lies. You did your due diligence when you bought the car, what else can you do? It's not right for you to pay higher taxes because of their lies. VW should put up the difference from the advertised numbers to the real numbers, in fact they should pony up the entire tax bill to make it right. VW better step up to the plate and fix this whole mess. I am going to start with the front suspension stabilizer bar links. I am trying to decide on whether to change the lower ball joints themselves or change the entire lower suspension arm with the new ball joint and bushings installed already. I can buy both of them complete and new for $90.00 here. But I am going towards buying the bushings and ball joints and pressing them into the arms myself. My philosophy is if you can buy the tools to do the job for the same price as the job would cost at a service shop buy the tools and do the job myself. The bonus being I get to keep the tools for the next time. Thanks
I think I missed the link for the window lift struts?? I did see the link for the Hatch struts which I need to do as well. What type of grease did you purchase? . Thanks for the video!
Here they are: 4192 Hyundai Santa Fe 01-06 Glass Lift Supports Strut, Set of 2 At Amazon: amzn.to/1JmIISf Qty (2) Hyundai Santa Fe 2001 To 2006 Rear Liftgate Hatch Lift Supports at Amazon: amzn.to/2fdCMbt Any general grease will do for this job. Thanks.
They should be stiff but you should be able to compress them by pushing down on them against the floor. If they are too stiff and you attempt to shut the glass window there is a possibility that you will crack or shatter the glass. Call the supplier and see what they can do for you. Thanks.
I just tried this with struts for a Hyundai H1, which has a very heavy rear hatch. Those struts will not compress without special tools. But you don't need them. The ends do rotate on those with moderate twisting force applied and the trick is to open up the hatch as far as you possibly can and then the struts do reach those ball joints.
There is a cap on the outside of the glass and I am sure it will become apparent to you once you carefully remove the cap. I suggest that you go to your local salvage yard and pull one off a salvage Santa Fe. The good thing in doing that is that you will learn how to take it off on another Santa Fe instead of yours. Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀
@@richardlloydusa thank you for the response! Do i just pop the cap off the cap with a screw driver or what is the best way to go about it? I have messed with it but it is t readily apparent how it pops off and i worry applying pressure to the glass
I don't want to play with my cap as I may damage it. But if you go to the salvage yard you don't have to worry about damaging those caps 😀 and you can pop off an extra one if you wish too. Some stiff plastic might work to pop it off. If you are using a screwdriver make sure to protect the glass before prying it off. Experiment at the salvage yard. Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀

Just replaced this lifts this afternoon. Went so smoothly.
Awesome!
The struts I purchased are extremely stiff, how do I decompress them enough to get them into position? Pushed against the floor, not budging.

@@matthiasmartin1975 , correct. Do not try and compress the struts. Opening the glass or tailgate to meet the ball on the strut is the way to go.
Hot do i replace that pin on the glass. I have the pin but the female part i screw into is stripped
