You don’t need to level up weapons to do the camo challenges, you can start getting them done right away. Granted it’s much easier if your weapon is leveled up as it unlocks attachments.
If you see this while Double XP is still active, I highly recommend doing some rounds in Zombies! I know the mode isn't for everyone, but I find it a bit more fun than Hardcore.
