PART clown punk, part walking rainbow - that's how Jess, aka ‘The Frog Lady’ describes their style. The 22-year-old, from Brooklyn, New York, has been dressing alternatively since their early teens. And over the years, their look has become more and more extreme as they drew on inspiration from subcultures like goth, emo and scene kid. Unsurprisingly, their technicolour wardrobe, punky makeup and spiked up hair turn heads wherever they go. And while people are mostly positive in real life, online, they have received some unkind comments.

@@elleret I’m not bothered. I’m just stating the facts. People that get excessive tats, piercings, and crazy hair colors tend to have underlying mental health issues. I suggest that people don’t mindlessly say “you go girl! Wow just be yourself Queen!” but instead look deep into the issue. I’ve seen this sheep mentality on similar videos, such as on grown men dressing up as girls, obese people showing their “empowerment,” and so on.

She's definitely doing her own thing and it's admirable. She's smart, well spoken and creative. Doesn't sound crazy or lost. It helps that her mom supports her uniqueness. Even makes her clothes. She took after mom in her creativity. 🌈
This sums her up well, I think. I've seen most of the Hooked On The Look episodes, and more than a few of the guests do seem to suffer from body dysmorphia despite what they say, or their uncertainty comes through the bravado, OR they spit on conventional looks while flaunting their unique one. But Jess? She's just doing her thing without seeming defensive or getting on a soapbox about others' 'standards'. She's fun and mellow, too. I think it would be fun to visit or meet up and chat with her.
She dresses in Decora. It’s a unique method of dressing in bright attire & the whole point of it is suited to the wearers personal taste

I had a friend like that, growing up, who just wore what she wanted and didn’t care. I was in awe of her…I could not imagine that, at that age (9-13). Later, I realized her mom was an artist and she was the only girl out of 8 kids, so she was her mom’s princess. Her mom was always very supportive. I decided right then and there that was how I wanted to be as a mom.

It’s called Decora. Look it up. It’s a Japanese street fashion/subculture from which it originated. Very bright & lotsa emphasis on “uniqueness”
I used to dress like this in high school people would say all sorts of things positive and negative ... but I loved it. I'm a very creative person and love colors just like her I loved mismatched socks a bunch of accessories playing with makeup ripping your shirts, decorating them. I actually really miss it. I've been very depressed recently and seeing this makes me remember who I was. She is very beautiful and definitely inspiring. 🥰🤗

I’m OBSESSED with this look. Rainbows and frogs have been two of my favorite things in the world since I was a little kid. I wish I had the balls to pull off a look like this. LOVE IT! 🌈🤘

Hey folks, based on the caption and the housemate's description of Jess, it sounds like Jess uses they/them pronouns. I'm seeing a lot of supportive messages in the comments, but I'm also seeing a lot of misgendering. Part of respecting Jess' uniqueness is respecting their pronouns when we talk about them. Pronouns are important!
