“It’s been awhile since could stand on my own two feet”..... I was homeless and alone, now I’m in university, have a home, and full custody of my kids ❤️❤️...this song is my life.
Bless you my friend!
Good luck bro
Bless brother
Good for you, brother...good for you.
god bless you and you re family , i really understand cause i m alone and lost all i v had and my mom , my only family .. but i ve HoPe .. Hope
As an addict in recovery this song hits me hard. Coming up 6 months clean what a journey its been so far
Heck yeah, congrats!
My daughter's father, just hit 6months as well. Good luck, and I hope you stay well! God bless!
One day at a time
I can see how song would "hit you" w/ your currently being in recovery. Get clean.
I'm glad you found hope. God bless you. It's been awhile since I was addicted. Almost two decades. It is possible.
You got this man. Don’t quit fighting.
Just recently put down the bottle. I'm bi-polar. Shouldn't have been drinking at all, but spent from age 19-33 drinking everyday. I'm tired of depression. I've lost almost all my friends to fentynol now, including my first wife. Our daughter deserves to have me at my best. I've been a drunk for too long and I've been angry at myself for too long. It's time to stand up and be better for my 3 kids, my mother and my wife. The only ones who really care about me. They deserve me at my best as they stood by me at me worst.
Sunday will make 3 weeks sober for me.
👍X1000
Keep it going. Hopefully you still are sober!
Hope you're still sober brother!
God bless you and yours brother. One day at a time. Keep your head up.
@@py4288you’re on a right way man
If you hear someone say, "It's been awhile," and you don't immediately start singing this song, you definitely missed out on real music.
This song tears me up, probably for the same reasons it tears a lot of people up, damn. 😞
Lol same
A very genuine post Aaron
Since I fucked up just like I always do
Sorry my friend, lost wife, mom n dad, and my brothers..... Last one was my 37 years old with a wife and child, You don't understand that tune
I remember laying in my bedroom when I was 18 and listening to this song. I just turned 40 a few days ago. It's crazy how fast life goes by. It's also crazy how much this song still resonates with me although for completely different reasons now.
Same I'm 38, n I remember laying on my bed with this on repeat
Always finding myself coming back
Congratulations on your old AF balls
Yeah, I remember listening to this when I was 17, I just turned 41 in November. Yeah life does go by fast, it's about to be 2024 jeeeez. The older we get the faster time goes for us, it's very strange.
@@carltaylor2975Your brain perceives time as a percentage of life lived already. therefore as time goes on, each day is smaller percentage of your total life, so it appears to go faster.
11 days clean off drugs and alcohol. This song hits home for me. I always loved this song and it was for a reason. It's been a while since I could hold my head up high
Keep it going🤙🏼
Please keep it going bro!
23 days brother keep going on
2 years clean and I think about it everyday. Song reminds me of that dark place so I don't go back
For what it counts from some guy on the internet, I'm happy for you man, and I thank God you're still alive, and I thank God for anyone else who may see this and feel something, clean or not.
I cannot blame this on my father, he did the best he could for me. What a powerful fucking line
@Aaron Lewis when are you coming back to Louisiana man? We need your art more now than ever in this country!
Spot on. The most overlooked line of this song. Hits home big time.
punches me right in the gut everytime.
Top 3 lines of any song, ever, for me.
My father was a sperm donor.. but I love this song... Aaron Lewis music ... Prick in real life tho
So powerful.
Metal singer or Country singer... I'll always like Aaron's voice. The dude has massive talent.
kornfreak78 *rock
i would love to hear him sing some metal, when did he do that?
Not sure if you're being serious or just trolling me... So if i'm taking the bait, then you win... otherwise, if you're serious? Check out the band called "Staind". Aaron Lewis fronted that band. They were most famous for their song "Mudshovel". That's a good place to start if you want to hear him sing some metal.
no one is trolling you, but if you're not aware staind isn't metal.
kornfreak not just mudshovel their 3rd album breaking the cycle threw them bigger into the mainstram
Been crying for over 2 hrs missing my best friend my husband of over 23 yrs he was murdered on march 24 2023 I miss him so much
I am so sorry

So sorry to hear this. I hope you have people who you are close to you can lean on. Nobody deserves to suffer that loss. God bless you.
Very sorry for your loss 😢
😢 I wish you warmth, love and most of all happiness to come. So damn sorry for your loss. Keep your head high as he would have wanted, pray and you will reunite one day in Jesus’s kingdom of heaven.
Crap I was in my early twenties when I heard this song.... I'm almost 40... Time goes fast.
Real music kids.
Hello are you one of my special true music fan?
I was a teenager. This music defined and molded my generation. Yes, technically I'm a Millennial but I come from the early generation of them. The late 80s kids that knew what hard work was, what life was like on bikes and rollerblades to get anywhere you wanted to go, when you had to tell your Mom not to use the phone so you could use the internet, when cellphones were just dumbphones, how all our world's were changed on 9/11/01. We are the forgotten.
@@daddydubz88 Yep.

I just realized his neck tat says "Don't Tread On Me". Aaron truly wears his beliefs. Mad respect.
I believe he actually does some part time work for Sons of liberty GunsWorks. Check them out if you haven't heard about em.

His voice in concert sounds exactly as his record, it is very rare today to hear a voice like his.
Isn’t he amazing?! The first acoustic version of this I heard I couldn’t hear what was different & also familiar about the performance. Now I know it’s that very special melancholy bluegrass tone he does so well. Lovely 😊

Same. Right back to the pain
He doesn’t just sing a song he paints a story and takes you there as he sings. Something very few people can do.
He is awesome. Been that way for a long time.
Pure raw emotion.

Drugs free one from the pain temporarily, the pain is the real problem. How does a personality fix itself. How can one change ones own nature. It seems impossible but it can happen. Amnesia patients can turn out like a whole new person. Drugs are a crutch for not knowing what to do with your life but some people make whole families and careers to avoid their own pointlessness. This world is a nightmare. I try to be positive and lie to myself but the fact is life is a bitch.

I'm 41 and served in the U.S.MC from 94 to 04 did 2 tours in Iraq and 1 in Afghanistan and would have still been serving had I not been injured. I tried to live my entire life trying to prove my family wrong as to not turn out like my parents who weren't very good people to say the least. So I always worked hard to exceed in everything I did after 40 years I got caught up in an addiction and I will beat that because that's what I have to do. My family the people who are supposed to be a supportnsystem for you look at me like they were right all along. Just want Aaron to know it's his music that has gotten me through the best and most definitely the worst of times. You have kept me motivated yet humble throughout my life starting at 17. His live version of Outside w/ Fred Durst is still one of my all time favourites. I miss Staind
Louder than Life... staind reunion. September '19
Durst fucked that song up. I wish he'd have shut up and let Aaron play.
Sadly I thought that was the only version of that song for about 5 years since that was the only version they played on the radio when I was younger.
Yeah dude. From that version of Outside my musical-scene path began
reading your comment I could hear fred saying
Biloxi this is the real motherfuckin deal y'all
After all these years that man still feels and connects with every word. Barely opens his eyes. It's beautiful.
This song stopped me from killing itself during the covid lockdowns, thanks so much AARON

I remember being 12 years old diagnosed with cancer ….. and having this song on repeat was the best thing ever
God I feel old listening to this in 2023, but I being in my late 30's, this song hits very different compared to when I was 15. Always been a fantastic song.
I remember being 17/18 laying in my bed with this on repeat fast forward to 2023 I'm 38 years old and I do the same thing
My daddy just died this month. Aaron Lewis is the thing getting me through the days.
amen sister
Who ever gives this video a thumbs down is obviously not human.
From drugs and alcohol addictions, to being sober, in a warm bed with my 3 year old daughter. When she's restless and can't sleep, i always turn on "What hurt's the most" with Aaron and she listens to his voice and falls to sleep every time. It's her lullaby. Being doing it for almost 3 years now, since i found out it calmed her. I always end up listen to "It's been a while" afterwards, to remind myself of how long i've come since then..
Children, this is a thing called true music.
Diego Managlia You look 14 and gay....
GiantxWarrior Why you interested in him?
GiantxWarrior haha
please the dude plays the same 3 chords over and over
POSSIBLY INSANE just because the chord progression is simple doesn’t make it great music. Whether or not it touches something in your soul is what makes it music. Almost every song he sings hits that mark.
you can hear the wear and tear in his voice, but god damn it still hits home!!
Wear and tear from decades of using it - without autotune and digital trickery. The wear and tear adds a new dimension.
No reason to curse my family I do like the man walked in them shoes for many years then I met the family of God and I hope you do to it truly filled the hole in my heart with something other than booze and drugs peace brother and keep it alive in Jesus holy name amen brother always and forever
It works incredibly well for the song though-the lyrics essentially tell of a man who is worn out on life and feels immense guilt after the love of his life dies…
Dude. Listen to his new stuff. His voice is superb. Country music suits him.
It's just how he sings it here. Just watched him live, and it was flawless.
I listen songs when I was 15yr old now 30yr old
same here man. turned 31 this year and remember listening to the original and just sitting back feeling great, singing along no care in the world
X is still gon give it to us, boys, don't you ever forget that!
Yeah same here. Always heard him and his music on the local Rock Radio station 105.7 The X. Only heard him and his country music on a few country stations but they hardly play them cause they're too busy playing the same new shit over and over again.
my favourite thing about Aaron Lewis' country music is that it makes most country look so bad
country is largely-awful, but it doesn't have to be that way

Heard this back in 2001, right as depression started, and I connected strongly to the emotion of the song. Found this version today- after 16 years I’m 2 days away from 2 months of recovery. So new, but longer than ever before. And this song says it all, and reminds me to keep pushing.
YOOOO Im rooting for you!!! I went through fair share of problems and know sometimes get overwhelming but hang in there!! The light at the end of the tunnel is there!!!
I hope you are doing well!
Even if the whole world has ended, I can imagine this guy strumming his guitar and singing this song all alone.... Totally unperturbed
And that's good. I admire the calm cool composed attitude

I’m not at some point of my life to say “It’s been a while since I could hold my head up”... but this song makes me wanna try for a better life and pass these miserable days when I’m a total mess... then I’ll play this song on guitar, cry along and feel happy to finally be fine again...

23 years, 33 years it'll still be an amazing song. So many meanings to so many people. One of the nicest dudes I've ever met in the music world also.
Coming up on 2 years clean and sober, and man. I’ve been listening to Aaron and this song since I was a kid. It wasn’t until I hit that rock bottom of addiction, and pulled myself out of it that I realized how deep this song is. It’s been a while for me too…but I still think of it often. I tear up every time I hear this song thinking of the things I did to my family and friends. My family has forgiven me, but it’s still a burden i carry every day. Thank you, Aaron.
Hang in there friend, find Jesus Christ OUR SAVIOR, and your 'recovery' will be complete.. Please, don't take this wrong, take it from somebody who has, 'been there , done that' ..
Be kind to yourself
This dude is just fucking awesome , country or rock. Gives me goose bumps listening to his stuff
Absolutely!
It's been a while since I heard this song and didn't think about her and that summer so many years ago.
Im 33, it's been 3 months since I've taken drugs. I'm a recovering addict, I've moved back into my parents place, I've lost everything due to addiction, everything. I've just enrolled into university and have started having a much better relationship with my kids. I CAN NOT WAIT until I can blast thing song, I spent 10 years tearing my life up it's going to take longer than 3 months to get it back, I know this but I promise when I do I'm gonna play this song.
🙏🙏🙏🙏 stay strong.
Understand all you just said. Keep your head up. I was 29, living in my parents garage, addicted, no hope, just wanting to die, the drugs wouldn't kill me. Now I'm 42, living life. Loving life. "Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a Gift. That why we call it the Present." My first Sponsor always said this. He lost his life to Addiction after many years clean. Never give up. RIP Ken M.
You can do it! No matter how rough life may get U CAN DO IT
Read the Bible. It’s the Word of God and gives my patients strength when they are down. Stay strong, my friend. Many blessings from Texas.
Sometimes it feels like I"ve only been sober a little while if and when I'm down. But i know it's been 20 years or more. My life has turned around completely in those 20 years. Thank you God!

Damn it.......Over 20 years later and this song is just as good as the day it was released. If this song, does't hit home you probably don't have a pulse.
Damn man this guy is in my feed and this watered my eyes I must say
It's been awhile
Since I couldn't
Hold my head up high
And it's been awhile
Since I first saw you
And it's been awhile
Since I could stand
On my own two feet again
And it's been awhile
Since I could call you
And all the things I can't remember
As fucked up as it all may seem
The consequences that are rendered
I stretch myself beyond my means
And it's been awhile
Since I could say
That I wasn't addicted
It's been awhile
Since I could say
I loved myself as well
And it's been awhile
Since I've gone and
Fucked things up
Just like I always do
And it's been awhile
But all that shit
Seems to disappear
When I'm with you
And everything I can remember
As fucked up as it all may seem
The consequences that I've rendered
Have gone and fucked things up again
Why must I feel this way?
Just make this go away
Just one more peaceful day
It's been awhile
Since I couldn't
Look at myself straight
And it's been awhile
Since I said, "I'm sorry"
And it's been awhile
Since I've seen the way
The candles light your face
And it's been awhile
But I can still remember
Just the way you taste
And everything I can remember
As fucked up
As it all may seem to be
I know it's me
I cannot blame this on my father
He did the best he could for me
It's been awhile
Since I couldn't
Hold my head up high
And it's been awhile
Since I said, "I'm sorry"
Thanks for this great song!

Idk if I can still believe in who he’s become u know.. but all these years later… I hear this song and am sucked back into the same vortex of pan and despair of what almost 20 years ago? Silently. Have they really ever changed? 20 before? 20 after? These are genius lyrics written by a brilliant f*cked up poet as the best always are.

When a song sends chills down through you, you know it's good.
Im 30 and this song is my childhood song.
I had been playing guitar about 3 years when Aaron hit the scene. I learned a lot of songs. I’ve been trying to make it as a musician every since then. 22 years ago. I’ve been playing daily. Never giving up. Now that I’m 38. I’ve missed any window I had of making it. I dreamed of being a musician similar to him / his original genre. I am still hopeful as I write all new songs and post them. But seeing him so much older and sounding so different. I realize time has gone.
Yea. But you could always be a songwriter. Get the music out there. In terms of doing what he did and does… yea that ship has sailed. Sucks to say that but just dropping facts. I’m a musician as well. 42. I actually chose a diffeeent genre and was booming but black mold fucked me up.
That song gets me every time I hear it.
Thank you.
Just listened to his latest hit that rocketed to number one.... " Am I the only one" what a country voice he has. What a gift he has to both write and sing so powerfully. I hope we hear hell of a lot more from Aaron Lewis!
In 1998 I went down to the Cameo in Miami South Beach . It was Kid Rock and Stained . they were just starting out . I was just hanging out outside with some friends and a young Aron Lewis approached me , and right away I knew something was special inside him he had a kind way about him 🙃 . he had a handful of demo cassette tapes and gave them to me to give to my friends and to help promote the band . For a short time we had a connection together but it felt like a friendship God is Good...

Im with you... miss those days too... 🖤
And being the same always , hoping that pandemic leave
Those days are coming back..because of this virus people will start going back to doing things slower like the old days...just my opinion..
Good fuckin times man.
This song has to be of the greatest things a singer could give. A darn fine ditty.
Excellent version of this classic.
I’ve seen this dude in full makeup and red mohawk perform this acoustically to give the mosh pit a breather. Then again a few years later, sans makeup, on the Family values tour. It was a beautiful song performed at a much needed moment. I’ve actually never seen him play the song with a full band as he recorded with stained. Acoustic fits it much better in my opinion.
Watching this song develop alongside his attitude, talent and outlook has been truly enjoyable.
Thanks Aaron.🍻
This song is even more emotional as a county song and Aaron Lewis is perfect for it. Thank you brother. God bless!
i felt every note of this performance im so depressed at the moment, music is my strengtht god bless Aaron
