- A guy’s video showing him set up his cubicle as his live-in space drew a lot of views on TikTok. He spoke to Isiah Carey about the funny reaction it generates, but it’s also a sobering look at the way many people live these days, unable to make ends meet even though they have a full-time job.

This is a HUGE problem. Most americans now live paycheck to paycheck and cannot get ahead. We are DROWNING! Most people cannot afford living alone or having their own place. This country is crumbling.
It's been the same since the 70's and now is almost impossible.....used car loan interest in '70's was 25%. Let that marinate. Home loans were at 12%!!! Now it is College debt.....unreal!
THIS FACT CAN BE PROVEN AND IT'S A FKN SHAME REALLY THAT IT SHOWS THE GOVT GIVES NO F@#KS ABOUT US!!!
I gotta ask.. legitimate question. Are or were you one of those "I'm single, I don't need a man type"?
@DEMOcRATS are trash Let me ask a legitimate question: Are you a dusty? Who has a bad attitude out of wedlock children? Degenerate who plays video games. And belong to a race of men who are making single mothers and every single community?
Good to see more people noticing the problems. It's extremely difficult to live on your own even if you work full time with most people you're still going to be paycheck to paycheck until you can't put out like that no more than you get to still live paycheck by paycheck unless you had a very good job.
It should be against the law for salaries to not meet the cost of living.
Absolutely !!
Although almost any salary does meet the cost of housing . Even 7.25 a hour is enough to pay for a studio apartment .

The fact that his job didn’t help address why he needed to sleep there and instead fired him is ridiculous
They don't care!!!
Corporate America doesn’t care.
@Unbeweavable “a black” lmao you racist. you see more problem with him moving into work as a result of being paid an unfair wage, than with his employers for underpaying him.
So they fire him? He lost his job?
@Unbeweavable I'd do the same thing and I'm white..
I can surely sympathize with this working and tax paying young man. My rent went up TWICE during Covid-19 but my income Only moved by .25 cent. That's right, only twenty five cent. The good thing is, When I moved five years ago, I Down Sized on purpose to a small apartment that I could afford even if I were unemployed. In other words, I lived UNDER my means at that time. I'm older and I was trying to ready myself for traveling in my vehicle across the globe and enjoying the sights and scenery. Little did I know, how effective this downsizing would be to what was ahead.

That man is absolutely right, while everything is going up, people's paychecks aren't, and thats a really bad thing. That's going to cause a major recession soon.
We are definitely in a recession now. Most recessions aren’t confirmed after the fact.
Well, someone has to pay for Bidens Illegal's that's why everything is going up in prices.
These jobs and real estate investors don't give a darn.
What's also continued to rise is the profit margins of so so many companies not paying livable wages. The profits workers generate are skipping right up over workers' paychecks into the hands of shareholders and executives.
@@love-ml3ep Xanax would help a lot man... But that paranoia 😬

This gentleman has a great outlook on life and stays positive regardless of his situation, I hope all the best for him.
We need more affordable housing and tiny homes communities.
True!
50% of the housing is owned by the top 10% in the US, so they're settling the rental prices and they've been competing against one another for the purchase prices and it just keeps the average family from being able to rent or own anything. It's time for a change cause everything is rigged against the average worker.

It is ridiculous that we can barely afford to live, I live in Washington and I'm going through the same thing and lots of people I know are struggling. I had to move from a 1,400 square foot house which I couldn't afford anymore into a 20 ft travel trailer, I'm lucky I got the opportunity to rent this tiny trailer and has everything I need in it. Rent is just to much.
Well said. RENT is just too much! What's more rental costs (and rent increases) are at the sole discretion of the landlord, and they can decide at any moment to 'jack your rent up.'
I agree with this man who moved into the cubicle. I work, single mom of 2 kids. I hold 3 sets of license for my job. It cost me money to keep my license. I still make a Walmart employee salary. I live in Alabama where rent is high, gas is high, groceries are high. Employers need to look at wages of employees. When cost of living goes up, the employees wages do not go up.
Change profession then and do what pays more! Not what you enjoy doing. Construction jobs pay well .
This is exactly why people with "good jobs" live in there cars and old motor homes. And the one's with low paying jobs or no job gets a tent.
Another thing impacting the homeless crisis in our nation.
Some of those good jobs have too many opportunity costs associated with them.
If I had to live in a tent in a family members backyard I would. That's actually freedom on my eyes. No reason to work and barely be able to afford to live

I actually thought of this. I can park in the garage, they have showers. Coffee machines, vending etc. Food delivery can happen. No rent I can save money. Seattle rent is insane! As is most other places.

I live in NJ the rents here to rent A Room is insane. People here who are advertising A Room for Rent are charging close to a thousand dollars. No private bathroom, kitchen, living room. You have to jump through hoops to see if you qualify for affordable housing. I use to be what people call the working homeless. Had a job, until I became disabled. Took me 5yrs fighting the system to get a apartment. To make things even harder, certain apartment complexes are denying people housing because their credit score rating isn't 700 or higher. The same thing goes for people renting rooms. They're trying to rig it so only rich people have a roof over their heads.
When we rented rooms in our large townhouse in a lower middle class neighborhood but close to bus stops and shopping the roomers had to share a bathroom and rent was equivalent to one week's pay. That was how we all survived.
When husband could not pay his portion (I paid mine) we lost the house and he moved into a camper in a campground until winter and then rented several rooms while building his business. I moved away to live as a caregiver for an elderly woman and mentored as a psychotherapist, while living comfortably in a backyard camper. We lived apart for seven years and met over Skype.
He finally got a lucky break and a good roommate and business partner and my pension came in, and now we live in a three bedroom apartment with below average rent in a crime free neighborhood, and he is also starting to get his monthly gov't pension.
All of this experience turned us away from materialistic pursuits into spiritual pursuits to raise ourselves up as spiritual beings. We also stocked a pantry.

Not really possible but a last resort.
@@bucktooth002 I've met a woman who did it for over a year. She even made friends with the guard dogs by giving them snacks and pieces of meat. She even had a toaster oven in there. An old lady who lived near the storage unit site finally ratted her out.

What!!??
I saw you on the Dr. Phil show Tuesday, January 3rd, 2023. I am VERY impressed with your brilliant, working creative mind. There are not that many of us LOL. I was so disappointed you are not close to the Inland Empire, CA because I know a woman who would gladly rent you a room. You are an amazing creature and before you become wildly successful, I want you to know that I have great admiration and respect for how your mind works and that I am your number-one fan way before other people create and realize it LOL. Take care and I wish you well.
Good for him! What a resourceful guy!
Guys take your skills and go to states that are affordable. Exit these cities make them ghost towns
It's everywhere, but some places are a tad cheaper for sure. My state (south central) used to be economical. Then, during the pandemic, we had a lot of immigration coming from totally locked down states (our state is free of cov mandates). People trying to flee their crazy states/cities to enjoy some freedom. Then rent slowly started to spike and have been up ever since. Rooms, apartments, houses, all up.
@@leplane_ that's capitalism, business people taking advantage of the demand.
Exactly...I was in the city things so expensive...moved up North...life is more affordable.
@@Bdpjev Problem is, you don't have a true capitalistic country anymore. Most of these things happening are through intervention of government, federal and state. If gov was behaving like it did in the old days, then people wouldn't be leaving their states to seek for a better life elsewhere, and thus forcing up prices and diminishing resources (less places to rent) wherever they move to. If we had a true capitalist market, instead of one driven by corporatism led by goverment, we wouldn't be having these problems. It's all artificial created by a gov that's out of control.
@@leplane_ interesting point. Speaking personally, in nyc you can make 100K even a year, if you have one child a car note and a wife that is not enough money. You won't be able to have a savings. Your wife would have to work and together maybe you would be able to create a saving. But you will be walking a tight financial rope. America has become extremely over priced no matter where you go. It's heart breaking, ordinary people just want a piece of the pie and many are willing to work for it, however inflation, a war economy is destroying the working class. These tax dollars being donated to all these countries and to fight all these wars could be dedicated to strengthening our nation and our people but instead we continue to go into debt and create more enemies than friends in the world. I can't understand why we allow the most illogical people power over us. Mean while the most sensible politicians are looked upon as socialist
We in the south vote that yall stop running from yall high cost of living and bringing them here! The market in Texas is HORRIBLE now!
I was just mentioning that the same happened in my state. Used to be economical. Rooms, apartments, etc were affordable. The same people who voted the ones who brought the lockdowns upon them, are now here driving the prices up and bringing their totalitarian mindset as they don't realize they brought this upon themselves. Not all of course, but a lot are like this.
Same here in Atl. All of a sudden everybody from NYC trying to be a hustler. Then they complain the whole time.
Exactly why the movie Nomadland was soo touching. Wish the best for him and others out there struggling to survive.
West Virginia is a great place to live, no weather disasters, none. No fires, no earthquakes, floods only in the flood plain are over in a few hours, no hurricanes, no tornadoes.
They fired him when they could have transferred him to a more affordable location. That’s sad. And if he have to WORK for his money why can’t he have a drink after work? Living paycheck to paycheck is the issue.
They fired him for breaking company polices, it wouldn't be fair to the rest of the employees if they didn't . Also this was due to his own incompetence.if he saved money instead of drinking 10$+ drinks in downtown seattle and started looking for housing let's say two months before lease ran out he would of had a new place. And still had his job...also by living at the company grounds that makes a liability for the job...like what if his crockpot has a damaged power wire and caused a fire or what if he brings bedbugs or roaches to the company ...let alone the extra cost of power and water of someone living on the grounds ...
@@gregschwarz5278 I never seen a company’s policy that read “employees can not move into the building” lol therefore he did not break policy. I do understand the liability but I also have seen companies go out of there way to help non-employees, charities, donations or events but when the help is need in-house… they fire them? I don’t like that. 🤷🏽♀️
We are all a skip & hop away...

Some people think they're safe, that's what's so funny.
Well done for the creative way this young man handed this situation! More power to his ingenuity & success!
wishing the best for this positive fella. hes very enterprising. hope he finds a new job and a place to live promptly.
Workers need to unionize 💡
No one can afford the rents these days or mortgage my husband is a veteran working for government and can't afford it! Even me working as well. This without going out and stuff we try cut down in all expenses it's crazy
That's what will continually sink some businesses and lower employment across the board, especially in retail. Spending power is limited when consumers are paying 60% or more of their income on cost of living/real estate.
Can I pray for you for your job?
I wouldn’t say no one but I do sympathize and hope your situation improves.
People always tell people struggling to pay rent to just move to a cheaper city. How TF could someone afford to move across the country if they are living paycheck to paycheck?
The government already has a solution for this; It’s called “housing”…. However people in the housing department do not do there job! And make it hard for people to get help..
Im currently living in my car behind my office in Arizona.
That sounds rough. Hope you are in a better place soon 🙏

Really is it even legal to build a studio apartment without a bathtub and oven? Doesn't the apartment gets inspected before tenants are allowed to live there?
I had a coworker who stayed in the attic apartment of my job at a shelter! She stayed there for a couple of years. She saved up enough money to buy a home! Crazy, but she did it! And it worked. Only a few of us knew what was going on
Good luck young man. You're on the path to greater things. What was meant to harm you only made you stronger. You got this... your clothes are gonna change your life!
Glad he left the company that didn't appreciate him anyway! He has a brighter future without them.😊
They ended up firing him because of this. Companies don't care at all. They could have tried something. But it's good he was able to stay afloat even through this unfortunate situation. 💜 I wish I knew what company that was.
