    I used to do a different version of the Super Mods..... I would take JP 36 out and put a 35V 35uf electrolytic cap in it's place, then bridge a 1 watt 56 ohm resistor across it, on the other side of the board... Then tune radio for max swing, my meter was very stingy, so it showed about 12 to 14 on the swing, while other meters showed 20 or more..... If my customer wanted a variable then I would use the SWR pot or add one to the bottom cover......Usually the SWR pot was being used for my Roger fart modification for different tones when the PTT was released.... Have a good one.....

      The JP 36 cap resistor mod is a trash mod the resistor gets smoking hot and all efficiency goes out the window.The tip 120 mod far superior .The transistor does not need to go to the heat sink.It barely gets warm.Just heat shrink and zip tie.For the swr cal to work properly you need to add a small vr trimmer to the cal wires and set it to cal at 4 watts or its not correct.

      Thanks thats the way I have always done it..Except for variable power..I would remove the wires from RF gain knob and tie them together to get receive. Then run a wire from both sides of the cap and resistor on solder side of board to were the wires were on RF gain switch for variable power.

      I'd recommed a dual knob 50kohm pot. take out the volume pot and solder the volume and squelch wires to the dual pot so you'll free up a hole for your RF power

    Hi. Have a Cobra 29 LTD Chrome. I just bought it new recently. I am having trouble with excessive static. When I set the S/RF, SWR, Cal switch to calibrate my antenna there is still static coming through the speaker. Even with the mike keyed. My SWR reading is at 1 and the antenna red light is not on. Is it supposed to have static interference even while calibrating the antenna?

    • @JLPicard440
      @JLPicard440  5 лет назад

      Yes, when you switch it to swr cal, and hit the tx push to talk on the mic, it's supposed to transmit. Then your supposed to rotate the cal knob until the meter reads cal at the end of the scale. Then switch the switch to swr to see what the swr is. But you should not be hearing static when the mic is keyed since it's in transmit, and of course the red light should come on. Does it transmit fine when in S/RF mode? Do you have a antenna analyzer to see if the antenna is working right? OR a dummy load? to see if the radio still has the problem when connected to dummy load?

    My variable is choppy or jumpy. From 0 I start to turn it up and it jumps all the way to two. And when I turn it down it goes from one to 0 like jumps straight there. Whats going on?

    • @JLPicard440
      @JLPicard440  6 лет назад

      It sounds to me like it's just dirty. You'll need one of those cans of component cleaner with the little red straw.. Try spraying some in the holes in the back of the control and rotate the control back and fourth as your spraying it.. should make a difference... Thanks...

    • @TINYNumismatics
      @TINYNumismatics 6 лет назад +2

      Its brand new its not dirty...lol 2 different setups do the same thing

    • @JLPicard440
      @JLPicard440  6 лет назад

      Well that's strange! It's acting like a dirty control. I'd still look at it.... it's acting like a bad one then... Did you do the mod and was it fine before the mod?
