I saw a Toe concert in salt lake once and it was probably the most incredible musical experience I've ever had. If you ever get a chance to see them live, do it!
I'm going to be facing my final math exam of my school years tomorrow, and it's a doozy. My final boss, so to speak. Here's to math rock and not failing math exams 🍺
Hyakkei is criminally under rated. "Standing Still in a Moving Scene" is one of my all time favorite math rock albums, and Okurimono is up there, too. Happy to see them get some love. And of course toe is godlike. TBAMIPOAVA is top 3 albums of all time for me, not even just mathrock records. Great playlist!
Glad that 2 Filipino bands, namely Tom's Story and Tide / Edit made the list! Unfortunately, both of them are now disbanded. The guitarist of Tom's Story, however, still has his solo act, Gabba to look forward to.
Pleasantly surprised to find a Clever Girl track on this! They were my first intro to the math rock genre, and continue to be very special to me. Shame about the breakup, but No Drum and Bass in the Jazz Room is and always will be a fantastic album and I stand by that.
All of these songs are really beautiful and as a guitar player I really appreciate them BUT… some of them would be SO MUCH MORE INTERESTING with vocals, dont y’all think? I understand that the “Math Rock” genre is typified by instrumental tracks but man… add a couple of choruses to these songs and they’d be absolute Bangers.
Existence is the real question. Now the answer, I dare say, is not a sentence or a thing, but a person, all along. The answer to the big question is it's own Creator. He is a person, and He has a name, an excellent one: Jesus. Yeshua, the original Hebrew name means precisely that: "YHWH(The Lord) saves". For modern times I put it like this: "The Lord is the Answer" You certainly have one hell of a question inside your soul, dear reader, and I would certainly like to show you the most amazing answer one could never even dream of: He is the Answer. In Him only all desire and doubt and hunger and void and need finds it final meaning. It all lead to this, ever since the beginning, all things where from Him and meant for Him. Why would you then, dear reader, fellow human, not lend yourself to His Person?
Damn, I don't know how I've never heard of Totorro before. This band is awesome and right up my alley. This is the best math rock playlist I've listened to on here since that one with the cat and the yellow background
i click on this because im a huge fan of totorro and alway want to discover more stuff in their vein. and then the first track comes on :) brought a genuine smile to my face
Never would I expect the youtube algorithm to show me this after failing to finish my math final with 44 questions of 61 done and an extra hour gifted to me :/
thanks for crossing this playlist past the platforms and bringing it to me! i think this made me realize that i need playlists for THOSE nights more than i think i do
If yall like a bit more manic and some vocals, check out Invalids! one of the better "instrumental math rock but with vocals and a little bit of punk and emo" assortments
For anyone looking for more great music, search up the Chinese rock band, Hedgehog. All their albums are superb, often I would lay in my floor or couch and play all the albums. My top two fav bands is Hedgehog and Asian Kung-Fu Generation. I hope anyone who looks it up enjoys
hi gavin. this time you're helping me through an 18ish page paper about hypochondria as a sociological ordering device. thanks for these killer playlists!
lmfao, i read industrial instead of instrumental and was curious so i clicked. i mean, it's still interesting (and definitely cool) music, but not as weird as i expected it to be.
Music is just exalted counting, adding, contrasting, and subdividing, and when you do that in ways that are more complicated than normal, the math aspect is brought fully to the foreground.
Clicked on this expecting a rock playlist meant especially for math studying. Was pleasantly surprised, and discovered a new genre!
wow...welcome to mathrock youre in for a wild and long catalogue. random suggestion: girrafes? giraffes! - when the nicotine vampires...
Lmaooo that's a funny way to find out about math rock
for real! something along the lines of ADHD music or with random equations thrown in.
Check out:- This town needs guns , American football, for songs with vocals
Check out a song called Nasty by Polyphia.
I saw a Toe concert in salt lake once and it was probably the most incredible musical experience I've ever had. If you ever get a chance to see them live, do it!
Hey thats where i live! im sad i missed that.
must of been amazing those guys are masters at their instruments and using them emotively
You should see vasudeva and corey mastrangelo who is a member of vasudeva his music is unreal very beautiful one of my favorites in postrock/mathrock
Oh shoot! What year did you see them? That would've been amazing
@@HotTanCakess I think it was 2015 at the Urban Lounge
Kids: I'm gonna be a musician. I don't need to study math.
Teacher: Come tell me again when you listened to this.
I'm going to be facing my final math exam of my school years tomorrow, and it's a doozy. My final boss, so to speak. Here's to math rock and not failing math exams 🍺
RUclips algorithm has blessed me today. Never gotten into math rock before but this playlist slaps!
Same! I always thought “Math Rock” was overly complex riffage for no reason but these songs are beautiful. Chon as well.

Hyakkei is the best! Okurimono is a great album too! Also the one with the string pattern game thing on the album cover. They're such a good band!
Okurimono is actually the album that introduced me to math rock, so I'll always be grateful to Hyakkei
Your pp is a coveralbum from Kinoko Teikoku, am I right? If so, you really have nice taste!
@@cruschk605 it is! Thanks! They're my favorite band haha
What does TBAMIPOAVA stand for?
math록에서는 다른 장르들에서는 찾아볼 수 없는 청량하고 강력하며 아름다운 에너지가 있다
I just used google lens for this, and yes I totally agree.
Agreed. It's been getting more popular recently, but I still feel like it's highly underappreciated.
Glad that 2 Filipino bands, namely Tom's Story and Tide / Edit made the list! Unfortunately, both of them are now disbanded. The guitarist of Tom's Story, however, still has his solo act, Gabba to look forward to.
THANK YOU for this info
didn't know they were filipino! Whats your favorite filipino band that's still together?
So sad, Gabba still plays tho!
Losers
I will listen to this in the night,
I will listen to this in the day,
I will listen to this everyday,
cause I am Sam, Sam-I-Am
This is so rad, couldn't stop my body from moving and grooving while in my chair at work. Brings me back to high school :) Thanks for the jams
Couldn't stop from moving, eh? Why would you want to?
im here because my boyfriend studies Math and i wondered what ''math-rock'' would be and its and absolute banger. its so fun to listen to
lyrics for the first song:

Woo!

Well, was hoping for music for my calculus sessions but somehow this really light up those quiet nights :D

make a vocals cover then. i want to know what you're imagining it could sound like
Kiitos Original JP sounds so ROMANTIC HOOOLY !!! I wish I have someone to listen to this while viewing the night sky together 💐🤟
I'm a graduate student in math and 100% believe that's how this wound up on my homepage but I love it. Feels good

clever girl, toe, and totorro all in the same mix, was this made just for me? ohmygodiloveyoupleasemakemore (edit: And Hyakkei! hell yeah!)
when you start with Totorro everything is good
Hell yeah it is. Hope they do a new album eventually.
@@PiYodTong Check out Do It Later to scratch the totorro itch. Some of the same members but featuring vocals. Really good stuff!
@@bricebrosig2912 Thanks for the recommendation, I'll have to check them out.
I was expecting geometry, not excellent music. I give this a 5/5 stars (-~-)

The link to the spotify version might be broken, does anyone know the name of the playlist? i really love these picks!
"late night math rock" - I looked a couple days ago and it wasn't available in public search yet but it looks like it is now. Enjoy!
Thank you for this playlist. Love it
Glad you enjoy it!
This playlist is greatly appreciated, thank you!!!

is is pure vibes, waiting for more from you, cheers
I always thought I was listening to post rock, never knew they were called math rock.
I wish they would use different instruments sometimes, it all starts sounding the same after a while
damn … the first track immediately reminded me of dance gavin dance 🤣🤣
Track 2 makes me think it’s possible for smooth rock to … rock. Math clearly makes music better.
Really cool playlist
Did that first song have a King Gizz woo sample?
First song is jingle bells, you can't tell me otherwise
I like rock, i like math, I said lets listen to it
On est loin de l'originalité d'un Owane ou Chon...
Why does that one band keep telling you to dance
35:00 my favorite song by toe in album *the book about my idle plot on a vague anxiety* . Thanks for your playlist mathrock.
The first one made me think of Steve Reich.
If yall like a bit more manic and some vocals, check out Invalids! one of the better "instrumental math rock but with vocals and a little bit of punk and emo" assortments
would you recommend any songs from them for starters???
what is math rock and why do i like it so much

That's amazing love it
It's not too common that I click on one of these videos and instantly know the first song!
this is the best math rock playlist i've seen on youtube, every song was a banger
Opening with a 5/4 song? 😌👍
Thank you Gavin
Man this playlist is fire 🔥
hi gavin. this time you're helping me through an 18ish page paper about hypochondria as a sociological ordering device. thanks for these killer playlists!
house - tom's story was exactly the kind of emotional soft sound i was looking for
their album is like a whole journey, shame they've disbanded
Thumbs up when this inevitably ends up as Destiny's stream intro music dggL
This is amazing! You have a great ear! Oh, the syncopation!
Not bad really
lmfao, i read industrial instead of instrumental and was curious so i clicked. i mean, it's still interesting (and definitely cool) music, but not as weird as i expected it to be.
I will be listening to every band on this playlist. Thank you.
Well this didn't help understanding the math behind QED but it was a great compilation nonetheless.
WOATED
Why?
banger , just like how the triple integral in calculus 3 smash me to dead
Thanks, I just discovered an awesome new genre!
I love Daughter, any playlist or song recommendations on something I might like?

these are all my favorite bands now.
good job guy!
How many times do you get told to dance
Thanks. Sure is one of those nights.
youre my favorite for these comps gavin
I love this. Wow just amazing collection.
Why "math" rock?
it has to do with time signatures and alot of math involved with it I think
@@jonahpeterson7281 not a lot of math at all, it's just about odd time signatures
@@opticalmoose8091 Time signatures are a big part of it, but it's also about the way a melody builds up.
Also the instruments are played with mathematical precision. Every note and beat dead on.
Music is just exalted counting, adding, contrasting, and subdividing, and when you do that in ways that are more complicated than normal, the math aspect is brought fully to the foreground.
It's 11am on a saturday and yeah this is what I need.
bro that first song is a banger, ngl.
it is in fact one of those nights
