I just noticed the page w/the aftermath of the alleyway fight scene. Dr Manhattan getting all of those microphones shoved in his face parallels the scene from the beginning where Laurie was getting multiple Dr Manhattan hands coming toward her face. They both "Left" afterwards. She left the marriage. He left the planet. Maybe I am overthinking it. Haha

The greatest thing about Watchmen is it's one of the best examples of a book aging and maturing with you over the decades. I read it every 3ish years and there's something new I can relate more to as I age.

Jim, that ballpoint sketch notebook is about the coolest sketch book ever...and the Eightball Red Rum is the pick of the litter.

Agreed, as much as I dig the Peach Momoko cover, I am dying to get my hands on the Eightball cover.

@@gabrieljimenez9762 Yes... when I saw that Eightball homage...in all its perfection...i got a lump in my throat. Helps that it's for Red Room. Ed Piskor and his love and understanding of the craft, are the sole reason I got back into comics after almost 20 years.... Well since Preacher ended.

In the 80s we were a hundred percent sure that those nukes were going to get dropped and it's at least part of why this book resonated back in the day.

I think it is so difficult to explain what it was like being in your teens and 20s (in particular) at that time - even people 3 or 4 years younger than me don’t seem to have felt the same shadow over them

Man, being the huge dork I am, I had to go an put on my "Read Moore Comics" T-shirt to watch this vid.
Love these. Can't say enough about how much I appreciate the care, thoughtfulness and honesty you guys bring to these. Is there a more overanalyzed comic than this one? And yet you guys bring so much valuable input. Nothing better than having two pros looking over a masterpiece and explaining a lot of the craft that went into this masterpiece.
    Can't wait for chapter 4.

Hey everybody, I m a big big Fan of yours! Even though I am relative short into comics I regularely spend time watching your Episodes from Germany. This time, though usually being quiet and enjoying, maybe I m able to contribute something. Your thoughts about having experienced cold war from Europe absolutely nailed it. And that s also why, at least imo, especially darker works like Watchmen or Batman - the dark knight returns had such an impact on comics Readers around the World. But maybe even more on Europe or Germany especially... . Usually witnessing Americans in chats, while watching Yankees Baseball with them, sometimes I get the impression some aren t aware what cold war, its end but also for example current Ukraine war means to Europeans. And that s why I m tring to give a little look into and believe it could have a certain value for you. Having experienced cold war or at least grewing up with it influenced several Generations. Especially after growing up after World War II and getting into touch with history still to this Day. Cannot compare to other Nations but as German it is and was even more special. Feeling that guilt if our former Generations but also being responsible same crimes and Bullshit never should be able to repeated. Grewing up in western Germany, somewhere between Paderborn, Kassel and Göttingen. Probably these towns won t tell you anything. But realizing watching daily news then in the 80ies that border to eastern Germany not even being 2 hours apart driving with a car ... . Getting told each Day weapons from US are stationed 10 or 20 miles around you, pointing east. While maybe 200 Kilometers away, I guess t that s about 110 Miles, first Russian rockets are ready to start over your head in opppsite direction. That really leaves a mark on you! That morning after Tschernobyl incident I woke up, having visited my grandma, and wanted to play soccer in her garden. Still can feel that green lightly wet grass on my legs. As if it where today, still can remember it. A morning buautiful Sun, paradise like air... . Almost like a fairy tale. Me running out and shooting the ball. Suddenly my Grandma came out and told me to come in fast. There would have been a big crash or incident. Possibly pollute the air, grass and everything outside. When iron curtain wall, Berlin wall, was teared down my father, working for Deutsche Bundeswehr, told me: a great Day for this World. Danger s gone and no more sorrows. Aside from me. Gotta worry now about my Job. So we all dreamed away. Now, years later... . That conflict between Russia and Ukraine. I m not exactly sure. But even Ukraine ain t far apart from Germany. Around 2 flight hours with an ordinary airplane. So, even if Germany and Europe are rather secure places these days... . We re still rather close to everything. Still can experience conflicts and results of iron war to these days. If you ever are able to visit Berlin, aside from rest of that wall, there are still several places you can touch and feel impact of history and cold war. Checkpoint Charlie for example. Having visited these places, experienced those real stories shown in several Museums. Shit, I ll tell you this: Watchmen
and Batman Dark Knight returns are even more a bitter pill to swallow. Also can recommend that German Netflix Show "Dark" by Friese. I guess, it ain t translated into English, so English subtitles are only way to follow. But, to get that tensed mood in Germany between 1940 to 1995, even though it s proceeded in a more artistic way... . To get an impression of that and getting an even deeper dive into Watchmen and Miller s Batman I really can highy recommend that Series. So, sorry for this big amount of words, but it s a big big topic and usually I m more quiet. 😉 So a huge thank you to you. Really love your work and appreciate your channel. Greetings
    Germany
