- Augustus Pablo is one of the most pivotal yet mysterious figures of twentieth century Jamaican music. This video traces his rise from Kingston's suburbs to roots reggae and dub pioneer.
Great piece. Met Pablo in 1971 at Randys Studios. He was humble and kind then. Loved and Love his music. One of the true innovators in the Reggae genre.
Yes I agree that he is a great artist however iam a rasta from Washington DC and I saw him in my neighborhood and I tried to greet him and he would not even speak or wave as a rasta that lift a bad taste in my mouth as much as I love his music I really failed some kina way but Jah bless
Ital Dub. A very impressive early dub release by Augustus Pablo mixed by the great King Tubby
He was a Rastafari mystic. Focused, humble, and serious about life.
That sums it up , nice of you to call it how it was !
It hadn't occurred to me until a decade of listening to his music that I'd never heard him speak. Just looked up an interview the other day. Just to hear him speak. Of course I heard some interesting things but the point is humble checks out.
I'm Nigerian, and I love his work called "Nigerian Love" 🤩
He's the reason I own and play a melodica. Such an inspiration.
I too!!! i own and play a Melodica Basso!!! I want to get an Alto someday!!!! JAH bless!!!
........ Meets Rockers Uptown changed my view of Reggae and music around 1980. i am so glad I discovered this wonderful man's amazing music . Blessings to all .
Pure genius 💚💛❤️ may he continue to rest in peace 🙏🏽🕊
I met his son in traffic, by accident in London. see my comment above...(The latest comment on the video)
His son Addis is keeping the fire burning. I was lucky enough to see him play back in the 80's. It was mystical to say the least. The video of him playing Java with the Soul Syndicate at Japan Splash. It like nothing else, it really captures him
Still have my vinyls..One of the best..legend..🎶🎼🎼🎵🎤🎛🎛🎙🎙🎼
I was absolutely drawn to Augustus' sound and music! Thank you for sharing this incredible history of reggae music and the lives of the artistes!
The great man as a young rasta youth I was introduced to this great man in Islington st mary by Theo dread. Lenny Haughton and courtney
I am blessed to have Augustus Pablo's music in my life. Thank you for this video!
The music of my life in the 70s and 80s His haunting melodies reminded me of time and places mysterious and true.. A sound as at home in the hills of Texas as any place else..
Augustus Pablo is one of the most favorite musicians of my life. I absolutely love his music. Thank you for making this video.
Thanks SOOO very much for your erudite research and commentary about the early legends of reggae . Thanks for mentioning Third World and Jacob Miller who I had the privilege of meeting whilst working as a bank clerk in King street- famous Kingston business district. Jacob was not only gifted musician he was a truly wonderful person with great humility and kindness. Such a sad loss at a very young age.
king tubby meets rockers inna fire house
is one of my top fave dub albums till today.
great player of instruments and top producer!
No doubt- great album!!!.
It is very interesting the whole history of our music, the many people involved and the fast pace of its growth, the decade of the 1970s was a wonderful time in reggae growth
Gone Too Soon 😢😢😢😢😢 King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown - Frozen Dub. Long live Dub Master. South Africa loves Ya mon
This is the foundation of the high Mystical Dub feeling . Listen east of the river Nile in the woods is a spiritual vessel to inner calm..

❤❤❤🎵🎶🎵🎶
People listen to cassava piece, Pablo in red and brace a boy, just to get a sample of that rasta man great skill, no joke, serious rasta man, Lee scratch Perry was doing his thing at the same period, early 1970s, changed reggae music forever
Reggae music is one of my favorite genres. This amazing video introduced me to an amazing human being-musician-pioneer. Jah love to the crew that produced and shared this piece of work.
That was SICK! Outside of Gregory, Pablo was my biggest influence on me in reggae. I must admit I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!!! A few suggestions video. I want to see about Dillinger, the scientist, Michigan, and smiley and how third world was the greatest and tightest reggae band ever. Please keep doing this!!! I love it as a true reggae fan.
Blessings ✌️ Thanks for the support and brilliant suggestions. Will do them soon
thank you for introducing me to this awesome musician roots reggae is worlds music jah rastafari
Yes! My musical hero, the most mystical and spiritual sound. I still remember buying my fist Pablo album, Earth's Rightful Ruler, in a small local record shop in 1990 as a young teenager. I didn't know anything about him; I was just drawn to the cover. As an instant fan I collected many of his other albums over the following years. Original Rockers 2 - Pablo Meets Mr. Bassie is probably my most favorite, but it's just a personal choice among so many strong releases. How about you guys?
Augustus Pablo,a study entirely of a quiet giant. Reggae Appreciation kudos.
He was indeed a Genius
The O.G. Horace Swaby- He used to be by Black Ants Lane with brethren Hugh Mundell, Norris Reid , Tetrack & so many more. R.I.P.
I see a video of pablo playing guitar left handed with the strings upside down in a video so he could turn his hand to most instruments it seems as well as producing..the guy knew his stuff ... legend
Bro Ken, Bob Marley and the Wailers had the greatest and tightest reggae band ever, one of the reason for this is that the drummer and bass player are brothers they actually created reggae music, first they played Ska then changed it to reggae with the song bangerrang by Stranger Cole, the first real reggae song, they are the Barrett brothers, Aston Family man Barrett the great bass player and his brother played drums, wicked combination, they played for Agustus Paplo and many others. Bless up
Interesting
Yeah and Elvis
Big Up to Augustus Pablo!!!! One of my favorite albums not mentioned in this video is the excellent "EAST OF THE RIVER NILE" with the great songs "JAH LIGHT" , "MEMORIES OF THE GHETTO" , "AFRICA (1983)" and the most excellent song with crucial drums "ADDIS-A-BABA"!!! Thank you for this video on the underrated Augustus Pablo!!! I own a MELODICA BASSO by HONER, which my Daughter's Mother bought for me years ago because I was so inspired by Augustus Pablo's Irie music!!!! JAH bless, thank you for this video!!!🙂🔥❤💛💚✝✡
Jah Bless Brother. 💖 Greetings from the French Alps.
Give thanks for the history of the real Don Pablo. I'm gonna be honest, I barely give his music a listen. But I do appreciate his mystic melodies amongst the most common. Blessed I. Do one on Willie Lindo if you have time
Apprecialove, my inspiration!🙏🏼❤🙏🏼💛🙏🏼🖤🙏🏼💚🙏🏼🎶🇯🇲🌎

The song "King Tubby Meets the Rockers Uptown" appeared in the episode "Cool Runnin'" of Miami Vice.
Yeah Mon, I watched that episode of Miami Vice, and I shed tears😢😢😢
...watched this great mini-documentary again tonight...would like to see you do a piece on what some consider one of the greatest albums ever released by Pablo & King Tubby regardless of genre: "King Tubby Meets the Rockers Uptown"...absolute masterpiece....thanks once again for this great channel...
Blessed Love,, Rastafari,,🇱🇨👊🏼🇯🇲👍🏼♥️
You’re really good at what you do. Love this channel your passion is apparent!
Thanks for the support 😊
What an absolutely great video! I have always been a big fan of Augustus Pablo, since I got into reggae music heavily as a teenager. I could always tell that he was a mysterious and private person. So this video did a great job shedding light on someone who I’ve always admired and appreciated and was curious to learn more about. One of the most righteous people to ever walk this earth! ❤️💛💚
What a legend. Great story and we'll narrated. I remember listening to him on student radio reggae shows in New Zealand. Good to know the history and legacy of this icon.
Also I never knew about the Chinese influence in Jamaican music tho I had heard of producer Leslie Kong.
I enjoyed this brother.

...this has to be the best condensed mini-documentary on Pablo that I've seen yet...excellent. Question: does anybody know whether Pablo is playing the melodica on Big Youth's classic "I Light And I Salvation"?...incredible riddim on that track...
Thanks a lot. Blessings mon ❤️💛💚

Jah bless is memories continually !
Such haunting music.
He was amazing.
Rest in power our Brother ❤AP 💫💫
Thanks for makeing this man one love and peace and blessings 🇯🇲👑🪔🌇🌄🌾
Rockers All Star explosion 💥...........
I was able to see Augustus perform live at Slims nightclub in San Francisco. 1991. It was incredible, but jamb packed, he probably could have sold out a venue double the size. The Club was owned by musician Boz Scaggs, and staged uncountable unannounced acts, David Bowie several times, and Prince joined George Clinton for an aftershow once, It was like a place where musicians could see, and bro out with other musicians
His music still takes me to new heights and depts of spiritual insight. I put him up there with John Coltrane when it comes to making the spirit of the Creator heard in their music.
The far east Sound
"On Spot" once again R.A.S. ‼😁🌿👋🏽
A wonderful and informative piece! Thank you so much for all your uploads!
Maestro espiritual ❤
He,s my favorite inspiration for to playing the melodica too 🎹🎹🎹🎹🎸🪗🎶🎺🎻🎷🪘🥁🪕🎤
Another slamming video. Thank you so much Brother
Blessings ✌️
Thank you for another deeply informative video. I look forward to them every time! They are brilliant, entertaining, and very well made. I wonder, however, if it is accurate to say that Augustus Pablo inspired Peter Tosh to play the melodica. Peter was creating tracks on the melodica like "Sun Valley" as far back as 1969. I'd love to know more about this.
Blessings ✌️ Thanks for the support.
Pablo's brillance on the melodica was already well known pre his Aquarius break and he had done some session work with the Wailers circa 1967-68.
@@ReggaeAppreciationSociety That's cool! Any chance you'd do a video on the great Leonard Dillion, The Ethiopian?
the very best.
Your channel is amazing! I hope you can do a video on the producer Everton da Silva, who also recorded with Pablo. He recorded many tunes with Horace Andy. I wonder if he came from Brazil, as his name is really common there. There's not much info on him available on the net. He was murdered in NY in 1979, according to an entry on Discogs.
Thanks. Glad you like the videos. Will check it out
Thanks buddy
Blessings ✌️
Augustus forever solidified association of the melodica with his name. Who else even comes close to that? Kenny G. and the alto saxophone?
Truly a wonderful genius of a rare kind
GOD REST HIS SPIRIT MAY HE BE AT PEACE 👑🌾🇯🇲🌴🌿🌇🪶🕊🇯🇲🇨🇳🦋🌻🌺♾️⚕️⚘️🌹🌷💐🦁

Hey, bro! I am fascinated by your your research on these legendary artists.
Would you be willing to research reggae artist Ras Carby's musical journey in the 70's. Your efforts, I am sure, will be well appreciated by fans.
Thanks. Will take a look at it
@@ReggaeAppreciationSociety Thanks for your response 👍. I will be looking out!
❤❤❤
Hi everyone
Please assist, who's track, and name is that on the background
Thank you.
What is the name of the song in background?
What's the name of the track you use on all your video?
Java was originally produced by Lee scratch Perry but he sold the rights
That's what I read in his biography people funny bwoy I think a long time ago
Also I think Augustus Pablo played on some Lee Perry's and the Wailers early songs
I thought it was Vincent " the chin " Gigante. The mafia don
Gunman killed every bloodclaat artist 🤦🏾♂️
