Heads up, with the way Blightsteel Colossus works, there is no trigger to respond to since it doesn't hit the graveyard. Blightsteel's shuffle effect is a replacement effect rather than a triggered ability.
@@darbasti1443 You can respond to it, but it never hits the graveyard so it cannot be targeted by Pharikas ability. Blightsteels shuffle ability is different than the OG Eldrazi Titans ability.
At 6:07 the blightsteel can't be exiled by Pharika because it doesn't enter the yard. It's a replacement instead of a triggered ability like the Eldrazi Titans.
Anafenza is a popular hatebear option and Devan's approach of using Exile effects is such a powerful way of killing off graveyard decks. I certainly wouldn't want to face something like it on a regular basis, seeing as how most of my decks rely on varying levels of recursion.
GG! John nearly pulled it out despite Boros' inherent weaknesses. I generally don't net deck, but I'm *severely* tempted to rip off Devan's Exile deck because one of the LGS's I play at has a RIDICULOUSLY GY-heavy meta and I'd kind of like to show up with a deck from out of nowhere and terrorize everyone with it.
Shouldn't John have destroyed his own Mind Stone as well after his Austere Command blew up enchantments and artifacts? Also, at 8:10 I'm pretty sure you discarded two and drew two to Daretti's ability
Great video! Couple little things that I haven't seen people mention: John's Felwar Stone should have been destroyed by the Austere command, there was an Ulamog and a greaves on the board but no one exiled 20, there was an Ajani with a few too many loyalty who might have broken a few backs. Also, I'm overjoyed that Kaya was able to SHINE!!! Secret general, and a bunch of great magic cards I love seeing!!
While I never had a totally exile-tribal deck, I did once have a Damia deck that focused a lot of milling over opponent's cards into exile with things like Leyline of the Void or Planar Void or one-time effects like Relic of Progenitus. This was almost purely to set up a turn using Oblivion Sower to steal all the lands an opponent has in exile. That deck was definitely all about way to accumulate lots of lands and make lots of mana (without infinite combos). Even had Herald of Leshrac, lol.
At 2:41, When Steve attacks with his Sunscorched Regent, he accidentally knocks the die from 1 to 2. Then he doesn't catch it when you give him another Regent trigger, going from 2 to 3. But he misses a regent trigger 1 turn later, so I guess everything worked out about even.
13:21 - Devan swings with Pharika, but only has 5 devotion to BG? Pharika gives 2x, Worldbreaker gives 1x, Ajani gives 1x, and Kaya gives 1x.... Pharika needs 7 devotion to be a creature. Am I missing anything?
I personally recommend neheb. I find Fs&Ss have way to many drawbacks being in boros and just dont have as much impact. I'm currently building a neheb chaos deck and its gonna be so much fun!
They're two fairly different decks. I could counter "having too many drawbacks being in boros" by saying mono red loses an entire color and both make up for some of the weaknesses of the other. My friend Liz plays Neheb and is able to constantly threaten burning the table down, while I enjoy playing a more grindy game, playing more off other people being the threats with fs+ss. Iv'e seen them both work amazingly before though, personally I'd say go neheb and see if you like archetype and then try fs+ss if you do as quite a few red staples carry from deck to deck.
argh, nobody noticed Devan cards ( in hand and on the battlefield)? He plays some cards up side down (like some of his lands like urborg) and when you peak in his hand, it's the same story 😅
I was so confused as to how Comeuppance prevented Kaya's ultimate. Didn't realize it caused damage instead of loss of life. Seems very uncharacteristic of a Black/White effect.
Hey guys/gals I'm like mega new to magic and shit and want to get into a playgroup but I obviously need to understand it first. @11:24 the Luminate Primordial is able to target Silumgar even though he has hexproof and shroud. Does the shroud not make him essentially invisible or does it just not matter because Steve controls Silumgar regardless of his shadyness?
John didn’t put his own Fellwar Stone in the graveyard after Austere Command. Not the biggest deal. I was just staring at it the whole rest of the game :p
What was the reasoning at 9:05 that Steve equiped Silumgar with the greaves instead of the Ulamog? It seems like it would have been some sweet karma to exile the top 20 off the Anafenza deck.
But if anyone had removal then they would use it in response to the Greaves equip on either creature. He should have equipped Ulamog and attacked, and then equipped Silumgar post combat.
10:39 Council's Judgement exiles permanent with the most votes. So John and Steve could've cooperated and both vote for some random thrash like Wayfarer's Bauble or Fellwar Stone, exiling it instead of Mirari's Wake and keep Steve relevant agains Devan.

I have three commander decks that are meant to abuse graveyard recursion (Meren, Saffi and Tymna & Ravos), and yet I'm not mad at that tribal exile Anafenza deck...
By my count steve had enough mana on his last turn to recast the urdragon. Could have equipped it with the greeves. Swung out. Used steel heelkites ability at 0 to blow up all tokens devan had and then hopefully play a blocker of some kind that he drew with urdragons trigger
I don't believe the Muse Vessel was used properly. It says you may pay 1 to choose a card not pay 1 for that card. It didn't really matter because Devan had so much land, but I wanted to point it out
You can’t exile blight steel. He NEVER hits the graveyard. Words say “IF blightsteel would hit the graveyard” other cards say “WHEN” But love the content (:

Darbasti yes it is because replacement effects don’t use the stack. Since it’s not on the stack, it can’t be responded to.
Darbasti by yes it is I mean the replacement effect is relevant. It never sees the graveyard because of that instead clause.
At 12:10 - Steve could've used Steel Hellkite's ability for 0 and destroyed all of Devan's tokens.

I love devan's deck. It is strong but stays really committed to the theme.
I also really like the Anafenza exile tribal deck, really interesting tribal deck, performed really well too!
Apart from the slight misstep with the Colossus Devan's deck was amazing and I love it.
Devan’s theme is great!! Great game as always!
I think there were a bunch of times he didn't have enough devotion to actually swing with Pharika.
