I got my Dreamstation Bi level ASV machine last September and for the past 4 months I have had issues with coughing, sinus infections -3 in a row, and headaches off and on. I reported this to Phillips and they said go to your Dr. and let us know your medical damages.
I agree with you Jason, Phillips knew that there was a problem and they should have recalled these machines when it was discovered. Thank you for giving all of us this information!

I know that I mentioned this to you in another video reply but it bears repeating. I have been an insurance agent for 37 years. There are many car and home claims in which smell has to be removed from a house or car. In homes (when a skunk dies in the crawl space for example) they use an ozone machine that oxidizes the air and removes the smell. In a car they can not use an ozone machine because the oxone oxidizes and destroys all the seals, gaskets and seat foam in the car. So, if Phillips used a foam in their machine that people are exposing to ozone, then that foam is being turned into dust by the process of being oxidized.

I'm still paying for my Dreamstation ASV machine that I got in March. I've already bought back up hose, tank, & filters. Now I'm learning that my machine has a defect. Thankfully I've never used an ozone cleaner thanks to Lanky's videos. I don't want to keep paying for something SO expensive if I can't trust it.
**Update** Just hung up with my DME and they seemed clueless at first, put me on hold, then tried to play it off as if they had a momentary lapse. They have referred me to their IT repair people and I should be hearing back soon. I made sure to explain that they don't need to "diagnose" anything. Just replace the foam with the new approved foam. I want to make sure they don't use old preexisting stock that is just more of the same old problem.

Did Philips reengineer the sound abatement foam in version 2 before or after they knew there was a problem. Why change the foam if there wasn't a problem in the first place? I fear that much like the skepticism in lankyleft's voice that there is more than meets the eye. I fear that the listed reasons for failure of the noise abatement foam from "ozone, ultraviolet, high heat and humidity" is just the tip of the iceberg for the cause of failure and there's much more beneath the surface. As time progresses I can only imagine the depth of knowledge and when it first truly came to light. Oh and for what it's worth I called my preferred dme - I was told to stop using the dream station and they'll call me back once they know what they're going to offer me. 🙄

I only had three significant drops to 90% without the machine. I wonder now if I actually need CPAP or even have serious hypopneas that require CPAP therapy. I wonder now if the fussy setup in the sleep test just made me highly anxious and brought up my hypopneas artificially. Maybe, I'll test my O2 levels another night and observe some more.

Switched over to the RESMED 10 as soon as I found out about this. It’s been three days and I no longer have lingering sore throat issues. CPAP supplier, doctor and medical insurance (my unit is less than 5 years old) all said it’s on Philips to replace. Thus, we have to register on Philips…as you said it’s in our hands. My worry is that I will have long term health issues due to inhaling this foam or gas for over 6 months. What’s more concerning is I found out about this recall because of a google recommendation. Never received a call from my doctor or an email/call/letter from Philips (yes I was registered with them as soon as I got my device).

@@hyperlexis You obviously do not know how class action lawsuits work. People like me never get easy money (okay, maybe $10) from a class action lawsuit. What class action lawsuits do is hold large companies accountable when they make obvious bad decisions to benefit themselves. For example releasing information (a health risk in this case) purposely late so to increase sales of their new product (dreamstation 2).

Hi "Lefty" - paper here! lol
I stopped using my Dreamstation and was in a roundabout way forced to purchase a Resmed Autoset 10. I got it set on auto everything, but then found my ears started ringing quite loud! So I set it on manual (fixed) setting with settings similar to my old dreamstation, which were slightly lower pressure and lower humidity and hose temp settings and I changed the "Relief" to 2 from 3. However, the ear ringing problem persisted but at a lower level.
If you would be so kind, what do you think may be causing the high pitch ringing issue?
    The thought that came to my mind were;
    *higher pressure?
*the different AHI extra pressure boost ( Dreamstation - a slow single puff) (Resmed Auto - a series of little puffs)?
*maybe the Resmed gives higher hose and humidity temperatures?
*that the Resmed might have a faster airflow because it's not restricted by two intake smaller filters like the Dreamstation (one coarse, one fine) and the "climate gate" thick sponge constricting airflow - whereas the Resmed has hardly any "foam gate" and only one large fairly coarse intake filter?
    Any thoughts
    with thanks
    Breaker

My Dream Station machine is my 3rd CPAP Machine. I still have the other two and they both work fine. The only reason I got the Dream Station in the first place was I changed suppliers. I was having trouble getting mask parts from my old supplier and I got fed up with them. Turns our there is not problem using my old machine with the new mask, so I'm good to go. I'm sure they will get around to me sooner, or later, but I'm in no hurry. My other two machines work fine. If I have to changes suppliers again, it's no big deal to me.

Great report, I find it odd they say there is a low level of complaints - how do you know to complain if you don't know there is a problem. And yes, they certainly wrote the legal boiler plate in their favor How about paying for a physical exam including X-ray to see if you have had any contamination., or refund you cost of ozone cleaner if you bought one. For the moment I am glad I have Resmed. This just shows how big companies can roll over you and intimidate you after you have made them rich by buying their product. Not too many primary care doctors know that much about this or care. Plus I bet this recall is not known about by Medicare.

My equipment provider tells me that this is different from the recall. They took it in for repairs before the recall was publicly issued, but I believe they knew about it. They gave me a loaner dream station one to use in the interim. It is also affected by recall. My previous system 1 is also affected. Luckily I have an old ResMed unit that was a gift. I'm an attorney and I've got a couple of concerns about letting them "repair" the machine and dispose of the foam. There's going to be a lawsuit at some point over this. Philips has already found its scapegoats, which are the Ozone cleaners.
Rest assured that you will never see the condition of the foam once the machine is "repaired." That may make it difficult to later link any potential health complications with the foam.
You should be VERY careful when answering the Philips registration form. Philips asks whether you've used an Ozone cleaner on the machine. There's a reason they're asking that question and it has nothing to do with whether they're going to repair your machine. They're asking that question in anticipation of future litigation. You can guarantee they'll use that answer against you at a later time.
** IF you disassemble the machine, and I'm not necessarily advocating that, be sure to take good pictures of the foam. A better option would be to record the entire process (with a time/date stamp).

That's a tough question. I own a Dreamstation, but I'm sure you're on the hook if you tamper with a leased unit.
I'm not sure whether Philips would refuse to "repair" a machine if they determine that it has been disassembled. I've contacted my DME and they have no clue how Philips will approach this. (i.e. whether to replace the unit or "repair" it)
My guess is that they will simply replace the foam with some other type of sound suppression rather than replacing units. That's cheaper and it allows them to get their hands on the foam. Either way, I don't see this being a very efficient or fast process. I'm sure they're banking on some customers--who desperately need CPAP--to buy the Dreamstation 2 rather than waiting.

You can use a bacteria filter in the mean time for extra assurance till we hear from Phillips on replacements.

Is there any way to check if mine has been messed up or should I just seek a replacement? I have severe apnea and can’t go without.

I've been using my DreamStation for nearly five years (Bi-level). I am literally afraid to go to sleep without it because my sleep apnea is so severe. My RT and I had talked about it being almost time to get a new one. I love my DreamStation and don't want to change to a different brand or type, but now this recall. What do you and your followers recommend? Of course, if I will get it fixed and use it as a back-up. But what about the new one? What's the best?

l see people taking the foam out, because it is to suppress the sound only.
