- Teachers and education activists in the Western Cape say the Provincial Education Department's decision to cut around 2 400 contract teaching positions, will have will have a severe impact on the quality of learning in the province. The Department recently announced the plans to cut teaching jobs. It says it was forced to take the decision, due to the insufficient funding it received from National Government.

Education I not as important as money an positions to South Africas political leaders. None of them do what they say.
I work in government (In another Department), I dont support the ANC, but what the ANC guy said is correct. The Department definitely knew about the budget issues since March/April, they 100% could have come up with a solution better than this.
Who pays that high number of ministers and thier staff? It's still tax payers money. We pay them, all of us, including us the poor. Everyone pays tax.
When was anything free; everything must be paid for. If the receiver has not paid, it is definitely being paid for by domebody else; stop this nonsense of "FREE EDUCATION".
There should be a middleground. Pay the teachers properly and make the school fees realistically affordable.
