    Next time open the oil filter first and put the new one in. When you are done with the filter, open the oil drain. It will save you a lot of time. Use another filter wrench. The one you have is bad and not suitable.

    Is it really necessary to warm up these Toyota Hybrids for an oil change? The 0W16 weight oil Toyota uses is hardly thicker than water even at 40°F, and doing a warmup pumps oil back up into the head, forcing you to wait 30 minutes or more for all of it to drain back into the sump. Seems to me that if if you drain and change it cold, after the car has set for several hours, you get ALL of the old oil out right away, except for a couple of ounces trapped here and there in pockets in the block and head, from where it can't drain to the sump at all, hot or cold.
    I had a 2014 Subaru Outback that the previous owner had installed a Fumota valve on. Easiset oil changes ever! I bought one for my 2019 Prius Prime and will install it at the next oil change.

    • @DIYBIGMAN
      @DIYBIGMAN  2 года назад +3

      I agree with you. Unfortunately the valve that I have has a smaller drain hole so in my situation I have to warm the oil. If I just had a standard plug it does drain a lot faster. There is a better fumoto valve that is larger than I should’ve got instead.

    Question: Loved your low profile ramp but when only front wheels up on that and with uneven alignment of car's chassie, is oil completely evacuated or a residue of old dirty oil will remain in the pan just to be mixed with the new one? that I am seriously scared of!
    Then Toy's recommended 0-16 does not exisit in the USA or at least where I am. (I bet the dealerships don't have it either). But Toyoto's documents says not to use 0-20W (That everyone here say is equivalent to 0-16) unless for a temporarly use and to change it quick at a dealership asap...! Is this another Toyota's gimmicky thingy to rip us off or is it a real deal?
    I never trust dealerships ESPECIALLY the Toyota's nasty dealership that sell a good product with bad intensions... Very bad intensions.

      Getting most oil out is better than getting nothing. Even if there is a little bit of visage I’m not too worried about it. I should get caught in the filters anyways. I’ve always used thicker oil never had any problems. I’ve gone as high as 10/30w. Anything my Prius tends to run quieter with thicker oil

    I would think this valve over a period of time to gum up , etc . And then to reduce the flow compared to when it was new . And how to test / determine the flow of oil draining from using this and the I think common sense way of removing the drain plug . How long would this valve last before it might start to leak , a drain plug is solid with a new drain plug , gasket .

      I had a 2014 Subaru Outback that I bought used in 2015; it came with a Fumota-style oil drain valve which I assume had been installed by the previous owner. I liked the relatively slow drain speed - it was easier to control and less chance of splashing oil everywhere and making a huge mess to be cleaned up. But it did more or less require the oil to be drained hot; cold oil would have drained at a snail's pace through that small opening.

      I have a 2017 with a spin on. Had the dealer do all the maintenance during the included Toyota Care duration so not sure if it came that way or the dealer converted it. When I get filters they always ask me if it's cartridge or spin on so I imagine they were made with both styles.

      @ChargedUp MY 2019 is a Limited & came with mine. I think upgrades got the spin on. I had to give VIN number 1st time I got my filter frm Toyota. Mine also came with lithium battery. I hadn't known until owning it for a couple yrs. It was on label under the hood.

    The owners manual states to use 0W-16, and you used a OW-20. The 16 weight is hard to find and costly. Just wondering, if you have always used the 20 weight and not the 16?

    • @DIYBIGMAN
      @DIYBIGMAN  2 года назад +1

      The newer primes run on Ow/16. I have always used 0/20. I have even had 5/20. Never had issues. Valvoline has been my choice of oil.

    • @riceburner4747
      @riceburner4747 2 года назад +1

      The oil is the heartbeat of ur engine. Manual says if u USE 20W, go BACK TO 16W next change. I believe in Toyota oil, proper weight 0W-16, 5,000 mile/6mos change, & the old plug in the oil pan. IT'S NOT THAT HARD! Oil hole looks smaller (harder to empty/drain) jst a CLIP? 🤔🙄 NOT worth takn a chance. Looks CHEAP!!! FAULTY.

    • @DIYBIGMAN
      @DIYBIGMAN  2 года назад

      @@riceburner4747 Yeah it’s a risk that you have to take. With The valve you have to press and turn for it to open up. The clip is it’s back up. I think I’ve done 4 oil changes with it so far. It’s definitely on the slow side that’s my biggest problem. But I do think that there’s a fumota valve that opens up a lot faster. The one I have on my Subaru Forester works really good and drains a lot faster. Yeah it’s hard for me to recommend it at this point because it drains so slow. But cleanup is a little faster and less chances for oil spills.
      In 2017 in the manufacturer manual for my year it’s 0W/20. But in the later years they use the 0w/20.

    • @LILK0NA
      @LILK0NA 2 года назад +1

      @ 1:56 you can see the oil cap which says 0 W 20. You need to follow the door print schedule, and the cap. Different model years and countries of destination or origin have different requirements for the same make/model.
      4 weight is only a means to get better fuel mileage I doubt it has much effect on engine longevity. That said; increasing the second number is where you can cause an engine to work harder and possibly decrease longevity or in the case of a hybrid engine lead to premature head gasket failure.

    • @DIYBIGMAN
      @DIYBIGMAN  2 года назад +2

      @@LILK0NA time will tell but I have had many Toyotas they are tanks and don’t fail
      Often. I have used heavier weights to much success and improvements but you can’t go wrong with manufacturers suggestions.
