Coach that knows his athletes, instead of having Bobby be a punchline, he sacrificed any advancement just to teach an unruly shot putter a lesson in dignity and humility
Despite making Bobby look like a joke, in fact that was honestly the most out of shape and silliest form of sportsmanship, that is honestly a good way to shame others if they don't put their focus on their goals

It didn't matter, his goal was to encourage Bobby by giving him a chance (he knew he would blow it but it was ok) and to teach this dude that he has to work seriously and don't take things for granted.

Honestly, I think more coaches should teach this way without using a student. Be real, if one student fails to show up or cooperate, replace em' with a student who's more willing. Not only is that fair, but it also shows that as a coach, it's not about picking the best, but the one with the most heart. P.S., I'm aware Bobby is not interested, if anything, Bobby would also get the boot for not showing any interest at all.
People like bobby are usually broken down and built up. This coach is an ass. Bobby could be a pretty decent thrower if the coach bothered to be a good trainer but instead desides to use him as a "stick"

that's old school coaching. we had this track coach at our high school that would get a random kid outside and ask him to sprint faster than someone on the track team in order to motivate them to be faster. sometimes that random kid was pretty fast lol

They left out the part where the parents complain to the school board, and the board fires the coach for benching the star athlete.
Karen parents also fail to learn the lesson, which explains why their kids end up like that too.

I remember doing shot put for the one and only time in my school sports day. It was a bit like this.
My biggest gripe with tv shows like KotH is how there's little to no character development. You'd imagine that at some point Bobby stops being a wimp but he just becomes the butt of the joke until it's not even funny anymore...
Bobby has had character growth. Bobby may not be the most athletic of people, but Bobby can shoot. Bobby has swag. He is smart in his own way. Bobby has had plenty of character growth.

I think the only flaws in the coach's plan was 1: He needed one more player cause that was what led to his team nearly losing at the end. 2: By putting Bobby in more activities, he was getting him in more shape, Coach should have made a progressive chart of how much weight he was losing or more fit Bobby was becoming (treat it like leveling up a video game character), maybe pay on the side as well as extra incentive.
That will make Chane a better man in the long run.

From personal experience, this tactic has been used by many sports teams coaches and managers. Because it works.

It's to show Chane his cockiness has consequences. Coach saw Chane getting full of himself and respond as such, and Bobby happened to pass by. No one is blaming Bobby for this because the Coach made it clear it's Chane's fault for putting Bobby in the position to begin with, had Chane took it seriously, none of it would happened.
