I don't know if Ed realizes this, but he has the potential to be an amazing narrator..I could listen to this guy all day. He could make a paint drying tutorial interesting
How do you get a narrator job?
Ed Bolian Lol, I have no clue, but I do have friends in the film industry, I could maybe inquire?
Actually, I know a guy who has been doing it a couple years. Makes great money and has fun. My last name at gmail and I'll get you his info.
I appreciate that. Happy with this direction in life for now but I will keep it in mind. Sounds like an interesting part of the show biz industry.
Can't wait for ED to commentate in national geographic
I once structured a lease for a client on a Bugatti Veyron. We had done a 72 month term at $31,000 per month, lol.
Wow. That would take the cake for the highest lease payment I have heard of. The lease on Carrera GTs in 05 was about $19k, might be close adjusted for time. Come out here to Atlanta and tell some stories!
Yes share your storys by the way im a sub :D
He must work 24/7 to pay off lol
VisualPlays or he's rich/already has the money/ has a steady high paying job
seems about reasonable....lol
Ed can you read me bedtime stories?
Rod-knock’s Mod-chop epic comment! Lol
Can i be tour little brother and listen to

No kidding, he is a great speaker, both instructional and story telling.

Broke gang!
Ed story time! Time to put everything else on hold for a few minutes!
I've been a banker for 32 years. The information here is top notch. In the 90's, I was the top indirect lender in the nation, booking $300 million in car loans in 1995. The only thing that has changed since then is the average cost of a car and the amortization periods.
Thank you all for the great questions. I will check back here as often as I can. Keep them coming.
I need a car, can i have one?
Hi Ed... I love your channel. I have subscribed a while back and usu watch your vids just before I go to bed (nice bedtime stories). I have always been a car guy thru and thru... they are a real passion of mine. I thought about starting a small dealership of iconic, low mile, vehicles, but Mich changed their laws and made it much more difficult to start. Anyway, the crux of my question is: where do you do your market research? What sources do you use in valuation of a vehicle? I heard you mention a "black book"? What are good resources for market research for car enthusiasts who do not have a dealer license? Thank you if you took the time to read this, I am a big fan of you and your channel. It is your channel that has me thinking that I might one day get into a 911 or Cayman. Much love !
This is honestly what I needed right now. 22, never bought a car before, been driving an inherited '95 Escort, want to get either a Focus RS or ST as a backup car, and I have no idea what I'm getting into. Perfect timing!
Great. Let me know if I can help any further.
I could listen to him all day long and never get tired of it. Ed is the man for sure and totally makes the channel.
I was an indirect lender for years and this guy's explanation is spot on. I spent a few years financing yachts after cars and its much different than this, but his video is also a good explanation for all autofinancing because it pretty much works the same. One area he didn't cover is Gap Insurance for these cars. I don't know if its available, but if it is, and you can't simply right a check for the balance difference, buy the Gap Insurance.
gap insurance is the single biggest scam i've ever seen
Hearing ED talk is like hearing a beautiful book being read to you.
As a person that sold cars for almost five years, I can honestly say, this video was spot on!
I’ve never considered financing a car and think the rules here in England will be different.. but any excuse to hear Ed’s voice
The age thing with interest is definitely accurate. When I bought my car the bank told me 2.9% if it was a 2008 and 1.79% if was a 2009 model.
Evan's Garage The cars were the exact same model, trim/optioned out, mileage and similar history reports? I'm no expert on the field but I've been selling used cars for quite a long time and seems just strange to think that the year was they only reason the would drop the interest rate 40% simply due to the fact it was a single year newer.
Unfortunately this is the lay of the land. You've never went to get a bank to get a car loan and look at there chart. They sometimes read. 2 years old and newer. 1.9% interest. More than 2 years to 4 years old. 2.9 %. More than 4 years old to 5 yrs old. 4%...So on and so fourth.
Horsedick.MPEG 40%?
Daniel Grimes yea my credit union is weird like that. This was like 1.5 years ago now but a 2009 and newer was all 1.79% and 2008 and back was all significantly higher depending on the year.
Was in the market for a 2014 3 series last month and Bmw financial wanted 3.5%. Last week I got a 2017 (a great deal) for only .09%
So it’s like financing any other type of car
Except the value of the car is much higher which opens other avenues of financing which would not be available or would not be practical in a car valued at a lower price. Other variables such as the percentage value over your previous loan would not necessarily be factors when purchasing a vehicle at a lower price point.
Ed has banished my ignorance...my negotiating skills have just been super charged! A splendid day indeed
Ed’s voice it’s like Morgan Freeman voice, you can read something and hear his voice in your mind!
He’s such a down to earth guy!
Ed is a great teacher with a precise conversational tone. Very easy to understand and he is extraordinarily knowledgeable about a multitude of subjects. Keep it up VINWiki!
thank you for your time , always good stuff
best video to understand car financing, that guy is the man! I help people with their credit and now I know how to talk to them about exotic car financing yayyyy
For real this is the best information I've gotten on finance in this amount of time. Your articulation on the subject is spot on. Thanks, Ed!
Very well explained...been a finance manager for different dealerships over the past 10 years and everything he said is 100% accurate
I'm looking to buy a car in the next two weeks (not exotic) and this has been really helpful. Thank Ed and VinWiki!
Excellent. Most of it should apply at any price level.
Soooo... I'm probably going to rewatch this video about 6 or 7 times while looking up all the financial terms Ed just mentioned. It's extremely instructive and I will be clicking the like button for similar informative videos like this one.
My general rule of thumb is, financing is fine as long as you can still afford to write a check for it. Especially when it comes to buying a dream car. Just my personal guidelines I like to live by. Interesting video! Never heard of one payment leases before.
That is a great rule. Mine has always been to not finance daily driver cars. It has kept me out of trouble.
VINwiki ha! I like that. Gotta keep yourself in check. Being a car enthusiast is not cheap
Yup, this is so true. A long time ago, I overextended when I bought my BMW motorbike, then lost all my overtime. Never again. Now, I’ve only used finance if it’s cheaper than using my savings - ( interest versus tax implications). So many people don’t realise that if you can’t afford it - you cannot afford it - simple as that. Also - be really sure you know why you want “that” car. I’ve had some fabulous cars. But my all time favourite everyday was a £4000 everyday Saab - limited edition Viggen, highly tuned, and tried to kill me daily, but wow, it was a lot of fun every morning. Because it’s expensive, it doesn’t mean it’s good. Buy the car you WANT not the car others say you should have.
Ed, I’m sure you’ll never see this comment as the video is older but I just wanted to say thank you.. I’ve been in the car business for just 13 months. Admittedly I’m still very wet behind the ear with this industry. But you’ve personally taught me more through these videos than my management team has throughout the last year .... by ten fold. Again, Thank you sir sincerely.
Congrats on making it through your first year. That is a huge hurdle. An unfortunate reality of the car sales industry is that there is far too little valuable training. Glad you are out learning where you can and I am so glad this has been useful. Best of luck in the role and wherever it takes you. Have a great weekend! -Ed
Those Murcielago shot are just amazing!
Just re-watched this. There was so much I missed the first time around.
One of the reasons I watch vinwiki is because of this guy.. And his voice 💯💪😂
I actually went to woodside for a loan based on your recommendation. Really happy with the experience. Thank you very kindly for the recommendation.
Damned good job!!! :-D These are the kinds of things we never got told when we were young and had to find out the hard way. So glad there are more people stepping up and telling what needs to be known to actually achieve dreams. It is a great thing. Thank you Ed.
Now you've got me thinking about my roll over date for the Exige already. There's a 911 Turbo across the street from me in limbo (sitting around between 2 neighbors selling it to one another, doing nothing currently) and would be more than my 40k for my Exige, so I could start that ladder climb quickly. :-) Maybe punt the Exige this coming warmer weather.
Wow, that was eloquently put, and I spent time in the car business. Instead of giving people advice on how to buy a car I'm just forwarding them to this video from now on
You are speaking the truth. I owed plenty of reg cars at a young age. My score was 525 so I started fresh with a new Dodge Caliber. I had to buy my credit back. 9 yrs later trading up in cars and payments and 8 cars later finally getting Porsche 991s cab and Porsche Panamera GTS and VW Passat paying a total of $3800.00 a month in car notes. Now finally trading both Porsche’s in to get a preowned Lamborghini huracan. I knew I had to prove I could make the payments for a long time and on time. Now my dreams are coming true. I Had equity in both cars and now my note is $2500 a month still got the VW for $480 as the daily driver. My total salary clearly is not enough to afford the car but the bank did it anyway because I never missed a payment. And now I’m paying less per month for the car of my dreams 🤣
$2500 per month for a car and you don't even drive it on a daily basis. Amazing.
@@mj7728
Nobody drive's exclusive supercars on a daily basis...
Miles = depreciation...
Those are cars made for sunday blasts, nightime joyride's, or canyon cruising....
Not daily drivers...
@@HouseOfPetrol i put over 90,000kms on my 2013 aventador before i traded it in for an aventador S............
i used that car as my semi daily driver perpetually hehe
(all of my cars are insured for daily driving)
wow that means 99% of exotic car owners in history are poor if they can only afford like 1-2000 miles a year in their "baby" :D
I can never get enough of Ed!
I've financed a few upper end cars and financing works exactly the same as any other loan.
Did we miss anything in the video?
Thank you for asking. For me, I might want to address: 1) planning for future costs of a car, just because you can afford an $80k car, doesn't mean that you've planned well enough for the $10k clutch job. 2.) The extended loan periods can be right for the right person in the right situation, but people only see the end payment and a 10yr loan is generally a bad idea for most people wanting to buy an exotic. 3.) Maybe address issues around factory warranties and extended warranties on exotics? GAP coverage, etc. Just my $.02. I tend to buy my cars with a large chunk down and then pay them off quickly (under 2 yrs) because I hate debt, but that's me. To me, buying an exotic/expensive car needs a fair amount of forethought and planning. Again, just my $.02.
Gearhead Daily I couldn't agree more with the ownership costs being expensive. Im being quite careful on my first exotic purchase, just to be sure i can Afford to maintain it properly.
Good call, not saying that it can't be done, just go in eyes open.
Gearhead Daily After spending enough on a 73 Corvette over 21 years to own a beautiful Murci, Im walking softly. But you can be sure i will stay tuned in this channel for the best advice
ohh the days before i had more than 5 gigs a month,so much i missed..stay safe and take care
This is an awesome channel. Ed tells a story like no other
Great video ,I wish sales people had the ability to explain all these options in such a calm and informative manner.
So much info in one video, you're a smart guy Ed!
Thanks for the kind comment. I hope someone finds the video useful.
That was probably THE most helpful information about how car financing works on all of youtube.... Thank you.
Thanks so much! Please share it with anyone you think can benefit from it.
thanks for the advise love the channel yall keep it up
Ed ever since I subbed when you had around 23k subs, every single video you come out with is solid and interest me. You've become my idol as a successful and confident individual. Thanks you
Thank you for the kind words but I am just a guy. If you want an idol, I suggest Jesus. Cars are fun, that is what really matters.
Good to know for my first exotic Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 I’m going to make that happen and soon
Great choice.
Manuel? Did you get it yet? That's my dream! And maybe down the road take it to underground for a nice TT system! Ed what do you think about TT systems on Gallardos?
@@aaronyoder121 no his name is no Manuel
This is why I'm financing my GT3 with a lease vs. outright buying. I own a small business & the company pays for the cost.
Ed always has some good stories, love the videos!
Eds stories absolutely make my day. Keep it up man great job love it.
Wow i was just looking through your channel and i refreshed and BOOM new video

Credit Score: 740+
Comparable Credit Experience: 50% of previous car loan
Requested Term: Traditional - 48, 60, 72 months; Extended - 120, 144 months
Loan to Value: 80% loan to book value (banks want you to put 20% down payment)
Ability to Repay: Verifiable annual income exceeds annual sum of loan payments (on exotic cars)
You should be teaching a class somewhere...on your spare time. That was awesome for me. I hope to own an exotic soon. Great info.
Totally underated video! Everyone needs to watch this!
This video was so informative and helpful ed. Please more car industry talk. Thank you so much
Any other topics you would like to see covered?
Ed Bolian can you make a video taking about how to know you can afford a car? Say you don’t have all the money up front for the csr, so you decide to finance it. When would it be ok to finance and when would it be a dumb decision???
awesome vid Ed! keep em coming.your vids are always entertaining
This was really fascinating, can you do more videos like these?
Sure. Any particular topics you would like me to discuss?
@Ed When you buy a car as an investment, how do you preserve and maximize your investment over time? As if I bought a manual murcielago and I might drive it to dinner once every few months or less. How would you go about maximizing resale value after 5 years, 10 years, etc?
Drive it at least 100 miles per month. They deteriorate if you don't. Use an authorized dealer for maintenance.
Ed is the very reason I subscribed to these videos!
+Alexander/Александр S/С thank you!
Ed could sell a Matchbox Ferrari on a 10 year lease at $25 per month including pricey add-ons such as hand made walnut display box with leather lining and the Ferrari made of 3D printed carbon fiber and actual rubber tires.
By far the best video series on RUclips. Informative, entertaining, intelligent! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience... always excited for new content!
That damn car salesman smile at the end lol
Ed has a Lamborghini because he knows his stuff. I'm glad he mentioned the interest concept also. Banks base interest on risk of non-collection and expected profits. If a person is financing an older exotic, with expensive repairs, the bank wants to collect more money upfront (higher present value) rather than later due to the fact that if the borrower is less apt to cover the repairs and make the monthly payments, the borrower may stop payment on the loan to make repairs. This leads to a non-collection situation, which is not good for the bank. Newer cars, especially ones still under warranty, can have some, if not all, of the repairs covered by the manufacturer. This means a borrower with a newer car under warranty is less likely to skip payments to make repairs, hence the lower interest rate. Less risk equals lower interest, a fundamental finance concept.
Well put
Oh Ed, you just sitting there putting ideas in my brain
My favorite person on vinwiki, so knowledgeable!
Very very informative!!!
A large part of me would simply want to pay cash for an exotic car (or any car for that matter!) and not have to worry about financing. People will bitch about interest rate spreads and how I can invest the money elsewhere and that's fine, I get it. Really though, if you're going to be sweating over putting down $150k to own a used entry level exotic car, you shouldn't be buying a car like that yet since you actually can't actually afford the opportunity cost of having $150k in your car as opposed to compounding in the market. Paying cash is the truest check on what you can actually afford.
Awesome video Ed, keep em coming!
This guy has smooth, buttery radio voice.
Great info; this channel will always be successful, because of the honesty and integrity of Ed.
This guy is awesome
Fantastic video as always, was really hoping to be able to ask some questions but you pretty much answered anything I could think of anyway so great stuff! looking forward to more videos of this type in the future
+BaioWithMayo thank you!
Super interesting and informative. You should do the same concept with average cars for first time buyers.
Most of the information applies in the same way.
Is it me or is the way Ed says "finance" is really cool
*that grey mucielago is my favorite color! And I’m feeling the G8ED license plate...it means the Merci has a gated shifter right?*
+b00st3d BMW it does, but it now says VINWIKI
VINwiki *haha that’s pretty cool...I️ love hearing some of these stories, I️ have some pretty badass car stories people would enjoy ;)*
If you are ever in Atlanta come by and tell some.
Ed Bolian *id love to come down to ATL, haven’t been there yet...maybe this upcoming spring or summer*
No questions, just lovin this channel so damn much !
Thank you!
Great info Ed. I'll keep saving up for now.
You killed it with this one Vinwiki Great orating skills to boot! Got my subscription!
Thanks so much. Please share this video with someone you think could use it!
I’d like to see a video on good entry level exotics
Very informative videos!!! My new favorite RUclips channel.
Truly an inspiration his come up and success
Thanks for another Great one Ed. I am so happy I found this channel. Registered my car on VINwiki just a few days ago.
+SigBlackwater226 thank you! Please help us spread the word.
VINwiki 👍👍😀
Could you do a video like this explaining exotic car insurance?
I certainly can. There is a lot less that goes into it. It works very much like regular car insurance. If you have any specific questions I can try to answer them here.
+Ed Bolian It just works the same as any other car insurance right? Except it's more expensive? I'm not sure I can think of any way it'd be different other than the insurance company not know what exactly the car is worth. There's certain insurance companies that cater more to exotic cars though? They'd know what they're worth more than Geico would. Geico and AAA and Farmers and such just uses Kelly Blue Book to determine the value of your car but it's not so simple with a one of 300 Lamborghini right?
Thank you I highly appreciate you everytime I watch your videos I feel closer and closer to my dream car
You can just tell that it’s Ed because of the title.
Very good informational video! The majority of it can even be used for people looking to buy an average vehicle.
Very informative video! I like videos like this being sprinkled in amongst the car stories. I think maybe some topics about car investments would be good. (Which cars may go up in value and which will lose value).
We can do that. Thanks!
Awesome! Looking forward to seeing it!
You see vinwiki... you watch vinwiki... you 👍vinwiki... Vinwiki is life😎😁
What are some good investment exotics for the next 2-5 years?
Manual Aston DBS, Lotus Exige, Porsche 997 GT2 (non RS), Spykers, Manual Lamborghini Murcielagos and Gallardos.
Ed, do you think the values of the manual Lambos have bottomed out yet? What kind of climb do you foresee in the next 5-10 years? Both the Murcielago and Gallardo are tops on my list especially if I could find a way to "break even" or better.
Absolutely. Manual Murcielagos have gone up by at least 25% in the last 2 years, maybe 50% in some cases. Gallardo are creeping up a bit more slowly but buy ASAP. There are lists of each on VINwiki. I think there are less than 300 manual Gallardos in the US.
Thanks Ed! Now to find a way to buy one for less than market value...
Dodge viper ACRs
Great video! I've been able to finance a 2003 RS6 in 2013, a 2005 911S in 2015, and may look to finance a 2011 V8 Vantage next year. I've put down just enough money and gotten an excellent sub-3% rate each time so I've never been upside down, and have recouped substantial equity after each sale. Never thought I would have such incredible cars at such a young age, but thanks to careful planning it is possible!
Great discussion...thank you.
Ed I watched your live stream with David . It wasn't bad but with only 300 on I think more questions could have been answered. But I do understand the bad connection. I truly love the Vinwiki car stories. I am 30 and have never even seen an exotic in my life.
The glare on the phone was really bad so I couldn't read them.
Ed Bolian. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I love the Vinwiki car stories and the diversity on this channel. living in rural Pennsylvania I've never see the amazing cars you always seem to be around. Thank you for the escape from my reality. Sincerely, Jeff Park.
Ask any questions you want?
Ed, I don't think you understand the internet. Never ask the internet to ask you any questions or to name something you own. 👌🏽🐸

Thanks for keeping up!
I watch a lot of RUclips in my opinion that’s a top 5 video of all time for me
What do you mean when you say that a credit score above 740 is unpredictable?
John Bauss maybe he meant 640? Still wouldn't make sense though
It is tough to keep a credit score much higher than that consistent. It will swing up and down on a monthly basis so no banks require it to stay that high.
Ed Bolian is getting to 750 that difficult? Do people even have 800 credit scores, how do you get to that point?
Absolutely. Plenty of people have 800+ credit scores. After all the cars I have financed and paid off, I think mine is 810 or so. Just pay all your bills, keep some good accounts open for a while, and don't carry balances on your credit cards.
Ed Bolian damn, 801, most people I know have full time job, pay their bills (supposedly), have cars and plenty of items on their credits but are in the 500's, so that's crazy, guess there doing something entirely wrong
Totally got lost but I could listen to Ed talk forever..
Can you do a video on leasing? How it works, what to look for in a good lease, and how to get out of one if you want or need to.
ALWAYS get a quote from your bank before going to the dealer. Your bank will give you the better rate, but at the very least, you have something that the dealer has to compete with. Some incentives are tied to dealership financing, meaning if you go with the loan from your bank, the sale price will go up. You have to do the math.
I was going to put bitcoin but then it says Bitcoin posted a week ago. How does that work? XD
iLupi he commented through an unlisted link ed gave him
it's Ed's business partner. Dude was in a video a few weeks ago and he shills bitcoin on every comment section for Vinwiki vids.
ohhh that guy lmao
Excellent explanation, Ed! Thank you!
Is it ever better to pay cash for an exotic car outright? I take it that the answer is no if you can get a decent loan.
It is an easy calculation. If you can investment the money elsewhere and get a rate of return that is higher than the car interest rate and your reduction of the loan balance is going to be faster than the depreciation of the car, you should take the loan.
Great video. So glad I found this channel.
Are supercars really worth the price? (For the ama)
Absolutely. More significantly, they don't usually have to. As supercars age they really stop depreciating so they are very inexpensive to own. I can easily own and drive my Lamborghini but could never stomach the cost of buying a new Mercedes or BMW.
Ed Bolian ah ok thanks for the information man
Sure thing! Thanks for watching.
That would be a good video. I doubt many understand how that is possible. Also floor planning, dealers actual costs, try to clarify how dealers can shuffle money from a trade in to a discounted price on the vehicle they are selling, to in house financing and back and forth, in order to give the customer the right feeling about the deal. So many do not grasp this point. It is valid on all cars for the buy here pay here lot to the new Porsche dealership. An insider tell all of sorts.
How does it work?
I love Ed's videos! This channel is going to become big very soon
Thanks so much!
