    Very lovely sounding (and looking) violins, Edgar. You should be (I'm sure you are) proud and content in your violins. You definitely chose the right profession, at least for those fortunate enough to acquire one of your wonders. Who knows, in perhaps a century or three from now your name might come to mean what a Guarneri name or Stradivarious name means to us. I think that your violins will stand the test of time and be sought out long after we are all gone. You might be then, gone, but as I said, not forgotten. Keep up the good work.

      I had the good fortune to play a 2001 Strad (~20k usd) by Edgar (possibly a linea macchi) two to three days ago out here in LA (@ Morey’s in Lakewood) while killing time waiting for some sheet music. As expected, that violin sounds different tonally to the Guarneri here (sweet round sound, polished, very responsive, and just effortlessly clean). It really speaks to the quality of craftsmanship at Edgar’s shop.
      It was my first time playing one of Edgar’s violins, despite being a long fan of his adjustment videos, and my expectations were not only met but also exceeded. So if you can’t get a new one from Edgar, perhaps a similar path (finding an existing one that is sonically similar) or from his workshop could also be an alternative.

      @@ghlscitel6714 While it's obvious that he is a very accomplished player he is rather showing off than trying to get out the best of every violin. First because of the choice of the piece, full of virtuoso stuff, double stops, left hand pizz but non melodic material to hear the tone and the color of the four strings slowly, up and down in every register and if possible in tune, and secondly because of they careless, sloppy and unmusical way he is playing the Ernst.

    • @ghlscitel6714
      @ghlscitel6714 3 года назад +1

      @@ludwigsaintj7209 Well you have a point. However judging the acoustic spectrum over an iPhone microphone sounds quite adventourous to me. Are you sure it is feasible? I could not hear much difference between the instruments concerning the tone quality but I believe Sandor who had his ears close to the instruments that his judgement was honest.
      On the other hand, getting an idea of the quality of the instrument while treating it under extreme conditions helps understanding it's responsivness in silent and loud passages even in artificial flagolet conditions. I learned that the violin is a reliable partner for every orchestra violinist, even for the soloist.
      By the Way, I do not understand the metaphor "...he is playing the Ernst". Can you explain?

    • @cafebingtea
      @cafebingtea 3 года назад +3

      @@ghlscitel6714 the player is playing the last rose of summer by Ernst, and later Ysaye sonata 3. Both pieces are definitely on the upper (close to highest) end of the difficulty spectrum. As a player, traditionally virtuoso pieces aren’t typically chosen to compare violins for the aforementioned reasons as playing it consistently is hard even for the highest caliber player.
      That said, I think the (terrible) comment is overly negative. I think Edgar’s intentions are to demonstrate, compare, and introduce these hence the casual nature of the video. Even with the arguably rougher playing and recording, I believe an idea of the sonic quality/signature and differences is apparent between the violins. There’s always ways to get into more details whether it be from the luthier (maker) or on the player side. (And there always will be overly rude/nasty comments on the internet)

    • @EdgarRuss

      @@cafebingtea You name it very well!
      When I tuned on the live transmission I didn't even know what Sandor Jarvokai is going to play. Whether which violin and what he will play.
      I agree very much that this kind of music is to show off but I also have to admit that I liked it since it isn't a super serious comparing. Showing off is also good, sometimes.
      By the way Sandor Jarvokai is receiving tonight in Budapest Hungary a special price for being an outstanding musician!
      Believe me he can play extremely nice and transmits lots of passion.
      Thats what it is all about.
      As I wrote in the description of this video already: he plays how I make the instrument!

    Screaming violins, unfortunately, both, but Guarneri original , the least. What instruments are violinists fed today with? Tinnitus promoting units unfortunately, and Cremona as an institution should take the blame. Somewhere towards the beginning of the industrial revolution violin makers messed up, and it has just propagated to modern times exponentially. Hard screaming E-strings is the GIANT elephant in the room, and he is about 200 years old now.
