I've been wanting to see this camera angle for years, great to finally see it! I'd be interested to see it on a 767 or other aircraft with bogies and doors too, if anyone has ever done that.
Hi Quill! I have been thinking about placing the camera into the landing gear bay for a long time, but believe it or not - there is not much room for even the small gopro camera, so it took me a while to figure that out :-) Glad to hear that you liked the view 🙂
@@pilotsview1682 Yeah, I can imagine it being tricky - not a lot of extra room. Extra room is wasted space that could be used for other stuff such as cargo or fuel. Brings up the question of how anyone attempts to stow away in the wheel well, if you struggle to fit a camera in there it's clearly insane for a person to attempt it.
All engineers know that 737 wheel wells are always dirty and contaminated. I’l love to see the footage when reverse is applied so one can see the dirt being blown in by the reversers. Great footage!👍
Aerohk every aircraft has its quirks. Personally I like the 737 up to NG; they’re very reliable work horses. The absence of wheel well doors makes the landing gears system lighter and simpler. On the ground wheel well doors can also be a safety hazard for maintenance workers. This is not a problem with the 737. Pretty good design! Years ago, Boeing modified the reverser cascades in a way that the airflow from the reversers were directed differently in order to avoid wheel well contamination. No idea what difference that made...
That's really cool! Would you be okay with me featuring this view in my series Weekly Dose of Aviation? Of course you will be credited both in the video and in the description. Thanks!
Hi Rheachi, glad you liked it :) the nose gear bay is on my list for next time 🙂 I have to wait for a short flight - on a long flight the camera dies because of the freezing temperature 🙂
What rivenoak said is true and installing a camera there isn't worth it, gear failures are extremely rear and there isn't enough room in the cockpit to fix a seperate screen just for that...
The old 737 Classic had a kind of periscope for this in the cabin floor, onder a round cover in the carpet. On the NG and MAX they replaced it with a second set of gear position switches (Proximity switches) and indicator lights.
@@polytekhat place enough to install a winch as failsafe procedure. it closes all hydro valves, opens the gear bay doors and unlocks the gear. gear moves in place by sheer gravity and arrest itself. you cannot retract the gear anymore unless in a maintenance station. example for Airbus emergency protocol: ruclips.net/video/o0hr_qjJ9Go/видео.html
@bruh No they're not. That screeching and smoke is from the slight friction created just as the wheels touch the ground and start spinning from a non-spinning situation. The brakes are not applied until the pilot applies them with his feet.
There is one small caveat, some aircraft have an autobraking system which can be set but this still allows the wheels to come up to speed before braking so that the aircraft does not skid.
Hello David, thank you for watching !!! I am glad you liked it and that you liked my idea to make a footage like this. Please stay tuned for more coming soon :)
Hello, I'm looking for footage like this for an artistic music video project I'm doing. Would you be alright if I used a segment of this video (3-5 seconds) with credit?
Oh dear, yet another true aviation nerd pr0n RUclips has suggested to me ... by the same channel! Subbed! But only three videos so far? I want more of this type!
I originally thought the pilots lowered the gear too late like forty seconds before touchdown since usually its like 3-4 minutes. However, someone else pointed out to me that the video flashed forwarded a quarter way in.
Doesn't mean it was to late. It depends on the traffic at the airport. If they have to get down quicker, they leave the gear up longer. If the runways are busy, they lower the gear sooner to loiter on the approach.
Bro there is obviously a cut between :12 and :14 seconds in. The sound and exposure of the camera instantly changes. They probably lowered the gear with so much time left that it was boring to watch for a couple minutes so they edited the video. You really didn't see that?
Makes me wonder if they can rotate the wheel before impact, will it reduce the wear? It even line a aerodynamic flaps attached to the wheel to make them spin using the air speeding across them.
Adding something to spin them would require money and maintenance to the motors (yawn) when the tires can simply be replaced quickly. Also the aerodynamic flaps would probably take up space in some way shape or form and even if the flaps worked you have to remember that airliner wheels are heavy and would spin very little so it would be a waste of money.
@@DoneRegularly Hmmm. Makes sense. But do share your thoughts on the first point. Will spinning the wheels prior to landing reduce impact on touchdown?
Hi Maximus, it was a bit of a hassle - since there is not much room in the landing gear bay. But basically - just a GoPro9 strapped inside landing gear bay :-) Glad you like it :-)
