I like a view too. That's why I couldn't live in a forest surrounded by trees

Who’s the builder? Can this wood, these designs be pre-cut and shipped as a ‘kit’? Much thanks!

Just because it has Sotheby's selling it, they think it makes it worth more money. It's a log cabin for God's sake. Not to mention the deck on the back needs a good stain job. It has no view. I guarantee the price is high because of the realtor.

My hat is off to videographer Josh Spooner.
Matthew, some background: The log home here is what you might call an heirloom home; a work of un-common craftsmanship and materials, designed and built over the course of twelve years by a couple now in their sixties, a collaborative team.
They're building another home in NE Washington. Intended to be their last build, it’s a straw-bale insulated timber frame constructed from local materials, most manufactured or harvested within 180 miles of the building site. For that project, lumber has been milled onsite, taken from the forestland the builder manages personally. Wearing chaps and carrying a chainsaw, radio winching using a forestry tractor, it's a calculated risk for the 64 year old self-taught forest manager.
Their spread is on the second largest river in Washington State. With a near negligible carbon footprint, the couple enjoy a challenging rural life, building their last custom home, restoring a 1912 barn and readying a conservation easement to protect the mile of riverfront and forestland they steward.
As for the home featured here, the deck described by one commenter as being in need of some maintenance is actually an Ironwood species (Ipe) that’s intended to silver like cedar over time. Ipe doesn’t accept the typical stain or sealant and is so resin rich it snows yellow dust as it’s cut. Resistance to water is why, in the foothills of the Cascades, where rain clouds moving east spill moisture before climbing over the mountain pass, that deck will last fifty years.
      Cheers.
