I love the dynamic. Pia is the most calm, soothing person ever. Anna is the most energetic, bubbly person ever. And Pia, as always, thanks for the wealth of knowledge that you share.
I remember when Pia played with Queen odds on a site called Gamecolony she would just demolish their top players (1800-1900), I've played against Pia, Bellon and Anna. Pia is cautious, ultra-solid that never missed tactics and always played some sort of sicilian taimanov and Bellon was like a Fire-storm that just made you feel like on a receiving end of a Morphy Miniature when I played Anna she must've been like 8/9 and I was around 1900 and she didn't fall for any of my tricks and I lost :/ Fast forward 10years later I'm a FIDE master and ABC is an international celebrity how time flies...
A smart and calm Grand Master with her energetic, charismatic and not less smart daughter. The perfect tandem to take chess lessons with. Keep it up, Anna and Pia!^^
Thank you, Anna and Pia, for the amazing stream. Italian was my main opening when I was a teenager. You have brought up so many memories. Pia is a lovely teacher. Thank you so much again.
I have this encyclopedia on chess, and in it's article on the Giuoco Piano. And it suggests it's not played by top players. But then people like Magnus have played it in tournaments. Not sure why the encyclopedia seems to have missed the mark. Maybe in the 1970s, people thought the opening was dead, but further study, possibly with computers said otherwise.
Feel like all e4 e5 players below 1800-2000( potentially slightly above) should watch this video. Edit: I mean below that rating the knowledge gained here would spike your win rating, absolutely everyone could enjoy this gem of a lesson.

Hello Anna, can the exact name of this class your mother is talking about be called "Coping with the Italian opening", or "Resisting the Italian opening", "Countering the Italian opening", because her explanation is from the position of Black and dealing with the Italian opening made by White.
Thank you for the class.. I live in an area where the closest club is like 2 hrs away. this helped alot to tidy my italian game. Love the vids and the streams too
Anna estás muy delgadita 😁 y me encanta tu entusiasmo 😊 las 2 estaban en cuartos contiguos? 😂 la hubieras invitado a tu cuarto 🤣 buen video, ayudará a mejorar mi juego 😉👍
After following these lines shown, i'm beating all these stupid tricks and traps :P. somebody tried to sac a horsey, but instantly hung his queen by moving it into my horse xD
at minute 27 black goes for the same structure that white would have "blundered" on move 4. Night can take on e5 and then push pawn d3-d4 to fork the bishop and knight?
then if you plan to play against the liver attack study a possible line. Some times there are certain move orders like a6 to prevent a fried liver. Or stopping before placing the knight on f6
Hey Ann, Kevin from Texas say hi. I just Googled your mom and found some very young pictures of her. ...and with you when very young. One great pic w/ young you in a pink headband with mom. ...really great pic. GG
She does add that they do it "when they want to be solid," specifically, not when the want a bracing game with attacking chances etc. It's a bit drawish but very secure. And a lot of classical OTB is pretty cautious, simply because all of the players are so good and are easily penalized for creative but dubious play.
"Rarely"? Checked some Database, 2700+ rating since 2019 and it's a little over 50% ..e5 vs the 10 other moves combined. Not what I would call rarely...
I don't agree at all. Do you have any idea how many openings and, within this openings, how many variations, one has to study with Black after 1.e4 e5? Why would you - an amateur - do that? Learn the King's Gambit, the Vienna, the Scotch and some gambits and then turn your attention to the Spanish, which you will see most of the time and which is a labyrinth. You can spend many thousands of hours on this. If you get as far as 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Nf6 (?) White can play 4. Ng5, start learning this opening, the two knight's defense, which does not give Black anything. Or he-she can play another series of moves such as 4.d3. In all of this, White dictates play. My approach is completely different: as a beginner or a player in the 1200 - 1900 range, learn one opening, stick to it and forget about GM evaluations. Your opening of choice might not be the 'best' but it is good enough and study middle games and endgames in the time you that you save memorizing variations that will turn out non-relevant for most of the time at your level of play anyway.
actually I disagree. Gm evaluations are great for learning. You tend to stick to the habits you already gained in playing a opening. If you start playing what the gm says you will memorize better lines and start seeing things. New players just get crushed and give up.
Very good lesson thank you but the move knight f3 (4:40) opens up for the fried liver attack (knight g5). I know there's a defence for this where black comes out fine but quite tricky for a beginner (and even intermediate) player with a lot of room for fatal mistakes. So I wish you would have covered this (the fried liver defence)!

So strange so see half the comments from a few years ago be from masters
imagine anna having kids and they call pia grandmaster instead of grandma
Hahaha
This is your grandma..ster
Hahah they will say “Mormor” which just means mothers mother
Lmaooo
I think you mean Grand-mother 😏
HAHAHA that would be soooo cool!!!
A smart and calm Grand Master with her energetic, charismatic and not less smart daughter. The perfect tandem to take chess lessons with. Keep it up, Anna and Pia!^^
She talks about how reserved she used to be which is surprising considering how outgoing she is now.
Thank you, Anna and Pia, for the amazing stream. Italian was my main opening when I was a teenager. You have brought up so many memories. Pia is a lovely teacher. Thank you so much again.
Anna has matured so much in 3 years, while Pia has not changed noticeably.
Its amazing that through youtube i can get a Lesson from a grandmaster for absolutely zero cost thanks guys
I love how the styles match the personalities….Grandmaster Pia’s Italian Game is so calm and smooth..
Nice!
@@ggerardsainsbury7522 actually i have since seen some statistics as to her favorite openings, she does not use the Italian Game in he4 games…
I could watch videos of your mum all day, the way she explains things is unbeaten. Would love her to be my coach 🤣
It is just mind boggling how easily Pia slips back and forward through positions, already knows the outcome of every variation
This is gold! More Pia masterclasses please!!
Thank you Grandmaster Cramling. The best Chess instruction I’ve found on You Tube
Pia needs her own channel!
Excellent instruction. The first 3 moves on each side were explained to beginners, but the rest was very instructive to intermediate players.
A master class for my favorite opening?? Yes please ☺️ I always try and get the evans gambit 🙃
Always a pleasure to watch Pias analysis ;)
Wow Pia has classes! This is old but it just found my feed haha
I dont understand alm Pia says but its a great explanation. Do this with another begginings please. Its like attending to an chess university.
Hi, Pia. I remember you from Cuba. Nice to meet you again!
I just realized this, but are you the Orland Luis Pardo Lazo that authored Boring Home and Cuba in Splinters: Eleven Stories from the New Cuba?
@@ManaTeal47 Yes!
Honestly I love your stuff but I REALLY love when your mum teaches it really makes sense to me
5:15 they won't defend the pawn, they will go for fried liver attack
im only a lowly 1254 rated player but that was great and really insightful. Thank you Anna and Annas mum.

This is one of the best videos on your channel
she is very relaxing to listen to, such a lovely accent
mmm yes.
just give her own series and episodes already
You're watching it ?
I like Pia's calm attitude
Not even joking I started a game after watching the video. first game I get black against the Nc3 mistake hahaha awesome thanks a lot !

I love that, thank you 🙏🏼
So very helpful. Thank you for posting.
Bring this back please.
Great!
I was waiting for this!
Thank you Pia!
What a lovely treat this was! Many thanks.
Esta chica Ann Cramling, tiene un carisma increíble.
Brilliant channel and GM Pia C here.... all bow to the GM
Great lesson. Are there more of these opening lessons with GM PiaC?
To me e5 is risky, compounding the advantage for white. The reason you play h6 like mama said is to make the Bishop commit to one side or the other.
Buen vídeo anna , sube una segunda parte ,saludos...
Pia is so modest. What a nice lady.
what about early Ng5, threatening the f7 square ???
Dude this is the answer that I’m trying to find

Crazy that spain and Italy are only one square away from eachother
I remember a photo of Pia in hospital playing chess, she was pregnant in that moment. I don't remember the year
nice, from a less than 600 player who wins one out of five games.
Got something. Thanks
The way your mom says f1 makes me irrationally happy
Anna is beautiful without make up.
at minute 27 black goes for the same structure that white would have "blundered" on move 4. Night can take on e5 and then push pawn d3-d4 to fork the bishop and knight?
wouldn't that be forking a pawn and a bishop? would just take with the pawn
Anna, so much better looking than the bottle blonde look. Great video, what a lovely mum.
Anna looks so pretty here, natural. The buckets of makeup just spoil it.
So cool.
I never see vienna game played with F4, theory has destroyed it?
But, if what about knight goes for fried liver atack?
then if you plan to play against the liver attack study a possible line. Some times there are certain move orders like a6 to prevent a fried liver. Or stopping before placing the knight on f6
@@dominusdone5023 I agree. It’s just when I see that knight going for f6 I play immediately knight g5
you can play the traxler counter-attack it's very powerful watch the gothamchess video about it he explains it very well
I missed an analysis about the fried-liver attack
But how on earth am I gonna remember all that'? 😭😄
Anna was such a cute baby i’m crying
There's adverts every 2 moves - I'm off!
Wow, mom is good 😊
nice
You, and your Mother, are just lovely women. Elegant and sweet. Congratulations on lives well lived! Is your Father a GM as well?
Sorry; Cramlings it is.
What?
Interesting. I'll have to watch later. I hate the Italian, never play it as white and always play the Rousseau gambit as black to try to escape it.
Too much theory? The Italian offers a very complex and rich middle game but also takes lot of practise to get it right.
👍
damn, i want pia to be my mother in law.

Yeah. Impossible to teach one of the Magnus crappy openings. There isn't - and perhaps never will be - theory associated with them.
Your mom is fantastic
Nice but I prefer Anna’s simpler and more concise explanations and lessons.
haha shes so little lol!
Unfortunately the calm and down to earth vibe of GM Pia is totally destroyed by Anna’s jittery and loud demeanour
Not eccited since had heaphones on. Arghhh
Why is this in blacks perspective???
Don't color your hair, Anna. It's carcinogenic.

1:48 No offence grandmaster, but I rarely see any current top players play e5 against e4.
