  • Full-day trip on the Princess. A friend and I spent most of day jigging & catching. We caught kings, false albacore, and plenty of almaco jacks and greater amberjack. And blackened Triggerfish sandwiches from the galley (thank you, Thomas!). Great trip, and a big thanks to the captain and mates who made it happen!

    I don't think people realize how hard and tiring this is, great job.

      Yeah, I always tell people it's tiring just jigging, whether or not you catch anything! Then if you hook a big jack, you've gotta take a break and recover! I understand why people slow-pitch jig, but I often find the jacks are triggered to bite with a fast presentation of a speed jig. Not always the case, of course. Have started using a glow-in-the-dark Roscoe jig at night tipped with meat with a very slow presentation. Catch bottom fish as well as jacks at night this way.

    Nice action. Would love to fish that boat someday. Any suggestions on which months?

      depends on what kind of fishing you do. Fall fishing can be fantastic for sure. I mainly jig for AJs and other predator fish. The miserable heat of August is not the best time for that. Winter / cold weather is not great for AJs unless it's an overnight trip that gets in deeper water. But you also encounter other species then, e.g., I've caught Bonito on some of the Jan/Feb trips. Others will need to speak to the best times for beeliners, triggers, and other bottom fish.

    what do you prefer more, capt stacy or carolina princess?

    • @BubbaNoze
      @BubbaNoze  5 месяцев назад

      Have caught plenty of fish from both. I really like the Carolina Princess crew, the food in their galley, and the larger size of the boat. I'd recommend the CP to families and first-timers -- they try really hard to give them a good experience. If you bring your own gear (I do), doesn't matter, but house gear on the CP is better maintained. All that said, the Stacy has put me on a lot of fish over the years.

    Great catches. Do you tied your leader to jig head or to slid ring how long is your leader to main line tia?

    • @JoelElliott
      @JoelElliott Год назад

      I tie leader to the *solid ring* -- assist hooks then tied to solid ring. jig is attached to split ring below the solid ring. So when you hook a fish, connection is directly from leader to solid ring to assist hook(s). Jig swings freely on split ring and doesn't give fish leverage during the fight. I prefer an 80lb fluoro 15-20 ft fluoro leader attached to braid with an FG knot (ca 30 turns). I often use 80lb Ande mono for leader 'cause it's cheaper and jacks don't seem to care.

    Nice catch what size jig are you using 150 or 200?

    • @BubbaNoze
      @BubbaNoze  2 года назад

      200g, mainly because that weight just works well with my rod.

    • @bmoni50able
      @bmoni50able 2 года назад

      Ok thanks I'm new jigging I will try the 200 then also. I have a couple of 100 and 150s. I will fishing the Carolina princess the end of next month.

    • @BubbaNoze

      @@bmoni50able use what works best with your rod. 200g just works better for my rod -- 150g or lighter is actually more difficult to work with that rod. 150g or smaller is fine if the current allows you to drop it down vertically. Sometimes current is so strong you need a heavier jig to get it down in the water column.

    What size rod/reel/line are you using? I've been on that boat several times but never brought a setup for jigging

    • @BubbaNoze
      @BubbaNoze  2 года назад +2

      My primary jigging rig is a Daiwa BG 6500 spooled with 65lb Daiwa J-Braid and an 80lb fluoro or mono leader. I use a custom made 300gram Bateson Rain Shadow jigging rod -- about 5'8" (I prefer a short jigging rod). The BG reels are very affordable -- ca. $120 -- and you could start with either an UglyStik jigging rod or a Star Aerial jigging rod -- both $100 or less. Chasin' Tails in Atlantic Beach carries them both.

    My wife booked me a trip the 27th of August for my birthday. I was told they provide all tackle and coolers and stuff but I can bring my own jigging equipment?

    • @BubbaNoze
      @BubbaNoze  2 года назад +2

      Yes, their "house" gear is perfectly fine for bottom fishing, but you'll want to bring your own jigging gear -- including jigs. I'd also suggest locating in the stern (difficult -- lots of people want to fish there) or the bow/front. You've got more room up there to get away from people (usually -- but not always), and more room to fight a big AJ if you hook one. But it's fine to jig from anywhere on the boat -- you'll just have fewer options to manage a strong fish from the spots along either side of the boat. All of this is just based on my experience.

      @@BubbaNoze awesome I have some jigs that came with a set I bought from Facebook marketplace and he said that he used them for that purpose but he was trying to downsize and I just haven't gotten around to being able to use them

    Do they provide any tackle or spinning reels for jigging?

    • @BubbaNoze
      @BubbaNoze  2 года назад +1

      no, not for jigging. They do have good gear for bottom fishing but you will want to bring your own gear to jig.
