I love A Doll's House, but it's definitely hard to read plays... I think the change in Nora's character is meant to be seen through the way she's portrayed in acting (how a line is delivered hesitantly, or facial expressions, etc.) that you might not get in just reading it. But I totally see what you're talking about, too. Great January wrap up! :)
oooh you make a great point!! I found a few variations of the play on RUclips, I'll definitely check one out & see if I feel differently. thanks for the comment 💕
Jane Eyre is my favourite book of all time, for exactly the reasons you lay out here. The writing and the complicated relationship between Jane and Rochester are incredible. I have not read any Morrison but I do have Beloved on my TBR. I don't know when I'll get to it since I have so many other books I want to read. The Bluest Eye interests me because I remember flipping through my copy and seeing the "chapter" headings and it really intrigued me.
Oh I hope you get to Morrison soon! I had The Bluest Eye on my shelf for a few months before picking it up, but I’m so glad I got to it! Although now I want to read everything she’s written, & the TBR is out of control 😂
Your review of Ibsen makes me want to reread Hedda Gabler. What a masterpiece. The title character is often described as a female Hamlet. Such a powerful play with some very memorable lines.
I’d recommend Breakfast of Champions as your next Vonnegut. I read Jane Eyre for the first time last year and I couldn’t believe I waited so long to read it. It is phenomenal!
Been wanting to read The Bluest Eye since last year! Will definitely put it in my priority reads next month because of your review. I somehow aquired a mini collection of Morrison's novels yet haven't been able to read one 😅
your voice is soooo calming, so cozy, feels like home✨
