RUclips comments are at present disabled in our channel, to the displeasure of some. However, each video has a prominent link to the associated open thread that appears on our blog. In the past we've tried opening up the channel to comments, but we found that a very high number of episodes wound up being flooded with a combination of spam, long winded apologists, and various obscene or misogynistic comments directed at various hosts by people with an axe to grind. This seems to be the nature of RUclips comment sections, in our experience.
We do moderate the blog, the same way that we moderate chat during the show, as well as comments on our Facebook group. For comment sections that are "officially" associated with our show (and, to a much lesser extent, channels that may give the unintended appearance of being official), we prefer not to play host to straight up ad hominem attacks and bigotry. As a general policy we do not block commenters simply on the basis of disagreement with our point of view. However, we do prefer discussion environments that don't actively chase off more reasonable contributors.

This is really a terrible argument. People can be atheists for bad reasons. Saying someone "wasn't a real atheist" is just as inane as when Christians say "you were never a REAL Christian."

When people like Goober say “I was atheist for a while” I take it to mean they “tried it on” without really examining the reasons behind it, or developing their own take on it, and then defaulted back to some version of whatever magic was most prevalent in the culture they were raised in.

That's funny you mention him. There's a video of Peterson talking about an experiment done at Johns Hopkins where researchers gave different groups of cancer patients different doses of shrooms. The findings are very interesting, but the most impressive thing was that the people given shrooms who had what they called a "profound spiritual experience" had far less anxiety about dying than those who didn't. Jordan Peterson even brought up this study during a debate with Matt Dillahunty, as though it were some kind of valid evidence for god. The kinds of experiences people have, on drugs or otherwise, are very much influenced by their previously held beliefs about the universe.

I have to admit, I did let two Jehovah's Witnesses into my house once and let them go through their whole spiel because one of them was smoking hot. The other lady was only marginally attractive but pleasant enough and I wanted to fantasize about myself nailing the two of them as long as possible. And although it was unlikely to happen , I hoped that given enough time I could convince one of them to go out with me on a grown-up naked and sweaty date. The hotter of the two asked if she could come back sometime and speak with me again. I'm thinking hells yeah, I'm in!
4 days later, she knocks on my door and introduces me to her husband who will be guiding us in our Bible study this evening! This 5 o clock Shadow looking dude who was probably 20 years older than her and hit every branch falling out of the ugly tree. Total bait and switch! I don't let them in the house anymore. Thinking I was going to get anywhere with a Jehovah's Witness chick, who tend to be long odds anyway when it comes to shaking the bad if you're not married to her, was pure delusion on the level of believing in their God. But she sure was nice to gaze upon for the short time we did have! I can only hope someday she finds her way out of that cult and into the arms of a man who will give her the oral sex she deserves. A Boy Can Dream.

It urks me when these type of people say " I used to be an Atheist..."
I've started watching these videos and so many of these conversations are either circular or just break down into people not being able to clearly articulate what they actually believe in (probably because they don't actually know). It's insightful and frustrating to see people literally unravel as they have these conversations yet are not aware of the unravelling process - it's quite astonishing.
I was raised believing in Santa Claus, and then I didn't believe in Santa Claus. So, I began looking into everything, "educating" myself even more, and then decided that I do believe in Santa Claus again. Santa is lord.
I never believed in santa,infact I went and used my logic to find out the toys hidden in the closet.
Their answer is to "why do you believe" always comes down to "because I believe".
I love the way they make fun of the call right after they hung up.

If you can't or won't answer a yes/no question with either of those answers and have to try go into some long diatribe ( though an "I don't know" would also be valid to a yes/no ) then I suspect your ego already knows where the question is going and is trying to protect you from having to admit you are wrong …….. Like Matt says sometimes, if there was a winning argument that proved this stuff true it would already have been trotted out ( and no doubt atheists , and other faiths , unless in denial , would have to accept what is true )

I'm an artist, but I do drawings. I work with colors. I know about colors. I have never experienced God while drawing or using colors.
I also believe the Earth is round, or at least spherical shaped, and spins on it's axis.

When theists come out with 'I was an atheist for a while', what it means is, there was a period where I didn't think about god a lot. Or, I was trying to be a rebel and get a rise out of my parents etc. They really really don't understand what being an atheist is.
You can't experience God with your senses, literally the only things we are able to experience things through. Awesome.

Moses said the "name of the Creator" , what follows the name is more important...it's what happened to the king of Egypt with he failed to acknowledge that name.....his citizens and his empire suffered the consequences for not acknowledging the God of Moses. The God of Moses proved with physical evidence, which are called the "plagues" that destroyed Egypt. The king of Egypt did not believe that God exists and took for granted what Moses told him was not the truth. Historically we find a lot of evidence of the narrative that " israelites" as a culture were slaves and lived in Egypt. This is besides what the Bible tells us. Things are either truth or false. The king of Egypt claimed to be the only god on earth.... it turned out to be false because he couldn't save his people with the God of Moses. Cased closed my friends. You can either believe there was a Roman empire and was destroyed or discontinued or you don't believe in it but there is alot of historical evidence there it used to be a Roman powerful empire. They also left archaeological evidence. You see my point??
She was much more patient with him. The caller was not as obnoxious as many others and I thought Matt was overly harsh with him and just seemed pissed off from the outset. I think this call would have gone better with just her speaking to the caller

I can understand the feeling of revelation when on psychedelics, dmt can truly make reality appear to be a very persistent illusion. What to make of those experiences is another question, but they do have quite a strange effect on perception.
