You mentioned using tape to keep the drill bit from slipping, but I'm not quite sure where to put the tape? Thanks for the great tutorial!
Terri Fullerton Put the piece of tape on the area that you will drill through. So if you are starting to drill from the top of the plate put it on the top on the spot where you want to drill. Hope that makes it more clear! :)

What do you call the rode that goes thru the plates?
I call it a cake tier stand fitting, but I have also seen it being called a "Cake Stand Handle". Hope that helps!
How can we get the iron column in the middle? What is it called?
It is called cake stand fittings/hardware - you can order online from places like Amazon or Etsy.
What drill bit?
I used a diamond tipped drill bit. I cannot remember the brand but it's from home depot.
What size drill bit is required?
It would depend on how big the diameter of screw part of the fitting is. I would go for the same size drill bit.
They didn’t have them at the Hone Depot I went to.
That's a shame.. maybe try to order them from amazon!
