a shatter animation like this is considerd oldschool , in maya if you look in the tab along the top under dynamics you should be able to find shatter in effects , iv had problems trying to create surface shatters but crack shatters easily achievable , i think there may be tutorials on youtube

I REALLY NEED HELP: When i click on Cut Face Tool, and click on the surface nothing happens. It says "Choose polygonal Face/objects first" PLZ! (This effect was working earlier but now it isnt!!)
How do you make it so the plane does not "fall down" towards the ball? Also, if I set the use plane setting, I don't even need the ball. The plane shatters by itself. Really nice tutorial. Thanks..

So can I apply this logic in 2012 or is there a different way. I need to make a building fall into pieces right before the camera goes under it. My class is very basic, and I'm not sure that my college teaches dynamics.
Don't know if you still need help but the cut faces tool is now Multi-Cut in the mesh tools menu and detach component is now just Detach in the edit mesh menu.
at 1.34 when you drag a time slider your sphere moves too, so I did all you done in the vid but my sphere doesn't move! What I need to do? help please!
Hey I need help. I make a polygonal plane and follow the directions in the video almost precisely but when I animate it, the plane moves downward (the sphere breaks through the glass but the plane moves by itself). And I check the transformations and they don't change. Could anybody help?

i was using Surfaces instead of Polygons :)

Try selecting the object before choosing the cut faces tool
if that dosent help try reseting all your maya settings

make sure its a polygon you are creating and not a nurbs. and then check to see which menu set you are working in. i.e surfaces or polygons

I made a terrain ground and want to apply this effect on it but i dont know why it flies off in pieces(faces) not in solid. Any suggestions?

i have maya 2012&2013 and its differnt title dont have the nMesh and nCloth in the dynamics...
i did fully but on the time of cache the both layer a moving ,circle is moving correctly but plane is moving downwards pls help me
