Back in college days, we did a presentation on IKEA. They're a very efficient company when it comes to choosing the materials for their products and manufacturing. Looks high end but low cost material.
Michael Nguyen It's quite an impressive business strategy making their furniture and products modern and aesthetically pleasing to the eye yet using terrible material :) IKEA countertops don't last long and it's better to invest in a pricier REAL wood countertop or simply buy some wood at your local wood shop and make one your self. Even better to get a large thick branch without spending any money would be a better option in the long run than using IKEA "wood" products. If you don't have the necessary machinery to craft what you need then there might be a public workshop near you or slightly farther away that you could use. A hell of a lot better investment than to spend money every few years for the same product just to have it fail on you and then replace it again.
Indeed but it's the softer solid wood which isn't as durable than the ones you could buy and build your self. My point still stands and the majority of their products are either paper cardboard, particleboard, or fiberboard. IKEA sells solid wood at a low price? Would you mind if you send me some examples?
weinerschnitzelboy you make great points, but I was gifted my cousins furniture they got from their parents. Made in the 70s I think, nothing broke! There's some wear around the veneer, (very expensive walnut), but honestly I like the charm. If I wanted cardboard, which I'm a huge fan of, I'd cut up some boxes to make this ikea the way I like it.
and their stuff isn't durable at all, paid a fortune for a "nice looking" desk, took a week and the top was losing it's paint, 3 months later I bumped into the side of the cabinet while sitting at the desk and it cracked... never again expensive trash.
As a subsidiary for IKEA, we do not support that comment. We use trusted, high-quality material and the finest, hand-picked stains, colors & veneers to ensure you have a beautiful home for the prices you love.
The honeycomb pattern inside the desk is an adapted design of something called a torsion box, most commonly used in carpentry and furniture building! The structure gives you the strongest, flattest workspace while keeping materials and costs down.
I got the 200cm x 65cm version of this desk and in the centre it has a 13kg ultrawide monitor and my tower is also sitting on the desk. I haven't noticed any sagging whatsoever. People also say it marks up easily but I think some people might be a bit heavy handed as I've not experienced any marking. I was really surprised at how light the desk is and how strong it is. Amazing value for money, if you want a cost effective pc desk then this will do you for sure. Great video btw
Just a note that the particle board does not extend down the full sides of the table as suggested in the drawing in this video. Rather there are square blocks in each corner to take screws for the leg plates. In case anyone is thinking of fixing two or more of these together just be aware that fixing plates can only be securely attached in the corners where the particle board is situated. I managed to squeeze them in immediately next to the leg plates and found that the particle board extended just far enough to get a good fixing.
I love this desk, I have the white/brown wood one and have been using it for about a year now. It's a perfect size and very sturdy. I don't know why people think it's loud, maybe I'm just a quiet person but I've never experienced issues with being loud while working on stuff on my desk.
Luckily im not buying this table because i though this table made from wood particles... This is the first table i saw made from cardboard lol so thats why i saw this table in half
Thank you for taking one apart and even drawing the different views!! Huge help in knowing what I can attach these to and where the particle board is used. I was hoping that the particle board ran on all 4 sides to attach to an existing table and make a Murphy desk but I'll have to figure out a new plan.
Oh my. Yeah, back in 2013, I had my iMac on some desk that was some IKEA model that was discontinued later on, and yeah, it did sag! We eventually had to throw out that desk after a few years due to that and the veneer swelling from water.
If you wonder what is the width of particles board on both sides (when the legs are screwed in) it is about 12.5cm - I figured it out (counted) from 0:59 moment. The distance between the screws for leg is 5cm. I measured pixels distance between screws in leg and the particles board width shown in 0:59 and that made it about 12.5cm
The linnmon desk has only one problem IMO. It is very loud. Due to the fact that it's kind of empty inside, it acts like a resonator. Every object that hits the surface makes terrible noise. Also keystrokes are very loud. If you are using it in the office - OK, but in home, when you work at night while other people sleep - terrible.
@@spd3ictpro no, definitely not. This is a soundbox as it's empty inside. Keyboard was a laptop like quiet one. This is the same construction as kallax - empty inside. It's extremaly cheap but still It's not worth the price. Any piece that would is solid inside will have better feeling.
@@mmm24ist I've used multiple different desks, I've never had any problems/issues. I never noticed a loud hollow sound when typing. One thing you didn't mention is that those hollow boards are REALLY loud to type on and that is why I personally wouldn't buy a computer desk made of it. Particle board is better but solid wood is prefered.
particle board tends to sag after using with heavy loads. I think paper fill is a good option considering price point plus the fact that particle boards are heavier. If planning on having a very sturdy table, mdf or even real wood(perhaps recycled) is a nice option.
That explains why keyboard drawer attachment felldown the first time I put weight on it. I've been very careful about that ever since. I think for a budget desk, its not bad. This video appeared in my feed and I found myself intrigued by the price. Apparently the Linnmon desk top is double the price now. What a difference 7 years makes.
We had the Bekant particle board tabletop which seemed great when we bought it to use as a desk but it sagged in the middle over time. My husband said that it needed to be metal braced first if its to be used as a desk (which we didn't know at the time).
People say the Linnmon is trash but it looks very clean and minimalistic. It also is pretty sturdy even though it uses cardboard. I would 100 percent recommend this 👍
I had this desk for a few years, the middle sagged pretty quickly. And after moving a few times, there was very little material left to screw the legs into. So as a result was very wobbly.
I tried mounting monitors like this, it does not work on a Linnmon, the clamping pressure to keep the whole thing from moving simply pressed a huge dent into the material and they were kind of loose. How wide is the particle board? I want to buy table legs other than IKEA but I'm worried the metal plate will be bigger and Ii'll drill into the cardboard.
This desk top is $24.99 now. One week ago it was $19.99. About half the items I had in my online shopping cart went up in price as was going to pay. Inflation is insane right now.
I'm thinking of drilling a couple of 2" holes in it for cables to go through, so that I can flush the end of the table to a wall so it doesn't vibrate. Good idea?
I had the small linmon desk for my laptop as a student. After 2 months of everyday use I realized my elbow literally drilled a hole in it. The quality is pretty bad but you get what you pay for.
@@mal3xia I was studying a lot every day and putting my elbow on the same spot. I now have 2 linnmon tables that held pretty well for 3 years. The bigger one was sinking in the middle so I put more legs and support. The smaller one is fine. I think they held well because I rarely use these tables now.
Hi David, I've just added a Linmon desk in the middle of a study room wall, there's enough space either side that I could probably buy another table, cut it in two and position it either side. My question is, after you have cut one up, do you think I would get a clean enough edge to make this a 'nice' install? Your thoughts would be much appreciated.
So that particle edge goes from from to back on the sides...this is good news meaning I can combine two pieces together with brackets knowing it's screwed into "wood" and not the cardboard part.

How wide is the particle board? I want to buy table legs other than IKEA but I'm worried the metal plate will be bigger and Ii'll drill into the cardboard.
The white top marks up pretty easy
Thanks was planning on drilling some holes on this and screwing it down to an Alex drawer but it won’t have much to bite down on
Plywood folding table is a better option. Costs less to ship, holds more weight and is much larger.
I wonder if you can reinforce these tables a bit.... Maybe something for your next video?
That's a really nice in depth look. Thanks for sharing
This desk top is $24.99 now. One week ago it was $19.99. About half the items I had in my online shopping cart went up in price as was going to pay. Inflation is insane right now.
yeah it is, its atleast worth 15 maximum
Lemon.
Deep bruh.
So, it's built like any cheap, hollow-core interior door in most cheap houses.
I'm thinking of drilling a couple of 2" holes in it for cables to go through, so that I can flush the end of the table to a wall so it doesn't vibrate. Good idea?
what would you recommend for an ultrawide monitor with a VESA mount? identical to yours honestly. 35''.
Can we mount a middle rod for it? Like we have to drill in... Cardboard? So can we do it?
Wow so cheap, damn glad I built my own desk tabletop. This will fall apart in a matter of months of desk weight equipment.
Yeah no, i have used mine for like 4 yrs
I had the small linmon desk for my laptop as a student. After 2 months of everyday use I realized my elbow literally drilled a hole in it. The quality is pretty bad but you get what you pay for.
I had one for 9 years and aside from some surface wear its perfectly sturdy. What did you really do?
@@mal3xia I was studying a lot every day and putting my elbow on the same spot. I now have 2 linnmon tables that held pretty well for 3 years. The bigger one was sinking in the middle so I put more legs and support. The smaller one is fine. I think they held well because I rarely use these tables now.
I'd go butcherblock. Also a solid core door would work well.
You should Reed the book about IKEA then you understand the reason why its made as it is, and how Ingvar came up with the concept.
1:50 Bro, what armyou use for your monitor? Can you tell me that name or give link, please?
thank you. I wanted to anchor my desk to the wall and was worried I wouldn't be able to attack any screws to it
Hi David, I've just added a Linmon desk in the middle of a study room wall, there's enough space either side that I could probably buy another table, cut it in two and position it either side.
Thank you very much, just the info I needed!
