These were fun matches. Parenteau did a great job of keeping them in the point and Sock has a good sense for when to jump in and get aggressive to score. I'm a fan of the team up.
Catherine played excellently and I'm sure its a challenge because Jack is still be a bit unorthodox in doubles so I am sure that throws her off a bit. So fun to watch.
@@TungNguyen-xr3wq did you watch the match? He was outplaying ben fairly often. 7-7 he barely sees another shot nevermind on his forehand. Hes going to be a problem
Definitely. Catherine and Jack I believe will beat Anna Leigh and Ben sometime this year. Jack is so fast, tall, can change direction of his shots so quickly and anticipates extremely well. He is not afraid to poach and often which is something you don't see too much in pro PB. As Jack continues to improve, play more tournaments, he will be a force to be reckoned with.
Plenty of Jack's poaches went into the net, right along with all those drives, including the final point of the match. Too many unforced errors, too impatient.
It's hard to beat Johns because he plays the game a step ahead mentally. He is controlling what's going on and setting up for what his teams needs to win. Great player and very nice duo with Waters.
PPA needs to get its act together on video quality. Many viewer/players watch to learn and that takes good angles, clear video, ... not cutting off the receiving player in the near court, etc. etc. APP seems ahead with this - including use of slow motion.
I totally agree! It’s frustrating when the video quality makes it hard to follow the game or learn from the pros. Good angles and clear shots make a huge difference. The APP's use of slow motion is a great touch-they seem to understand what viewers need. Hopefully, the PPA steps up their game soon!
Actually what I see is that the Johns and perhaps many other pros see Jack as an outsider (and Jack probably feels that way given his short time on the PPA) and is trying to ingratiate himself to the top veteran pros in the game. Good strategy. I also think the likes of the Johns and Johnson’s see him as a big competitive threat to their current rule of the Pickleball roost. I mean it only took like three tournaments before sock was playing at their level making it to finals and winning with ALW in 2023 in NC. Pretty amazing really
I am new to this sport and I am learning the rules. This video really confused me. From what I see in this video each player of one team has to serve and lose the serve for the side out to happen? Practically one team has to lose the “point” twice for the other team to get the serve? Has this always been the case or is this a rule that has changed recently? I am asking because I have been watching all sorts of videos on RUclips about the rules and nowhere did I hear this. Honestly this doesn’t make much sense to me.
the rule is each player from a team has to serve once that’s why they call it first serve and second serve. Then, second rule is you only score a point when you’re serving.
No matter how much the commentators or advertisements try and push it the NEW Vulcan V pro 1 apparently is junk! The pro's already during the matches change the ball due to Vulcan bounces the people at our club are pretty upset about spending $4 a ball to have a ball go out of round after a few games as bad or worse than the Dura cracking in cooler weather! But oh know PPA once again can't seem to stumble bumble themselves out of the way!!
IDK... I had a brand new dura break today after an hour and we were playing inside. Every Vulcan I have played with so far has lasted at least 4-5 hours. I've had a couple go out of round, but the green duras do the same thing.
@@danhoen4129that's why the vast majority of people at our club play Franklin! I prefer the Gear Box ball myself!! Kind of falls between a Franklin and Dura speed wise!
@@patricksnyder3446 Franklins are great for cold weather but they are too soft for anything over 60 degrees. I like the Gearbox ball. It actually plays almost identical to the Vulcan.
I can't stand that in doubles the order of server is called as 1 and 2, instead of first and second. It's annoying when first and second makes sense and is already in use on tennis, and can be confusing for those that aren't familiar with it.
Jack inserting himself was the reason that they almost won. Catherine is freaking amazing, but there's a very good reason why 95% of the balls were directed at her instead of Sock.
@@JoanneLove-p5p That's the closest CP has come to beating BJ/AW in a long time. Sure, Sock made some errors, but he was the main reason why they almost won.
AL just doesn't make bad decisions and her consistency at the highest level is a major factor in these mixed doubles wins, even when paired with the great Ben Johns.
It's not that he's necessarily the "fastest" guy in pb either, but he's a big guy with a really explosive first step and good footwork. That's pretty much ideal for covering a court of this size
Once Sock starts to make better decisions and not speed up EVERY ball...Hes going to absolutely dominate with ease. He's literally playing like its a backyard game for fun. TBH even tho they lost it still sort of felt like he was clowning them all...
True, no amount of court coverage can make up for a shaky soft game or too many unforced errors. It’s all about finding that balance-consistency and control are just as important as being quick on your feet. What do you usually focus on to improve your soft game?
*Jack hits an obscene amount of unforced errors into the net* "Yeah ALW and Ben Johns are just doing their thing" God I hate these fucking casters sometimes.
Ironically Sock is a better singles player in PB, given he was generally better at doubles as a tennis player. His ability to hit passing shots is why he can regularly topple top players. Court is too small for real passing shots in doubles.
@parkercrossland410 oh 100% agreed. I was more commenting on how the casters constantly give credit to the opposing team for unforced errors. Someone can miss the most simple dink and the desk is like "that's such a good cross court dink from Ben Johns. Really jammed him up". Lmao
@@sallad2645 Yeah Sock doesn't do the dink. Which is fair. I prefer playing singles to doubles for that particular reason but most people I know don't have the background to play singles.
