I was blessed to have grown up during the Golden Age of Cowboys on the tv & movie screens. I was also blessed to have grown up in Texas and knew real working cowboys. Life-long cowboys from generations of cowboys. They loved James Drury & The Virginian. He was worth watching 100% of the time.

I'm nearly 70. In my child hood there alot of westerns & man-o-man how we enjoyed watching each & every one!! Our American icon heroes are leaving us. How I miss them as I shed a tear. It's so sad this new generation will never experience what being a true heroe is. God bless our heroes!!

Damn, that was sad. I was born in 1964, and when I was about four or five years old, my mother would put me to bed at about 7:00pm, and I remember I could hear "The Virginian" theme song coming from the living room, as well as other shows like "Mission Impossible" and "Ironside" when my parents were watching TV. I would always wonder, what my parents were watching on TV. One time I got to stay up later for some reason, and I saw the opening credits for "The Virginian", and I never forgot that image of "The Virginian" riding his white horse to that theme song when seeing it for the first time. Powerful imagery for a young boy. Mr. Drury became an instant hero. I feel a little sad as of this writing, because both my parents are gone now as well as a hero. I wish sometimes I could go back to that time. That time of feeling secure and loved as a child, and watching my hero "The Virginian" riding his horse for the first time. RIP Mr. Drury. You will be missed immensly and thanks for the memories.

I think we all feel as you did. Not only was it the golden age of television, but the last opportunity to teach the viewer about being a decent human being. Later shows depicted dysfunctional families and anger. James Drury embodied what it was like to have in each of us. Those lessons now can only live on in reruns.

I watch The Virginian every day. I watched the western channel all day when they aired a tribute to him.
Growing up in the 50's and 60's in San Francisco (as a woman of color) I never saw this show....only Gunsmoke (after my great grandmother and grandmother finished watching wrestling. I was not so fond of westerns. But now approaching 70 I have fallen in love with them.
I have seen all the episodes of The Virginian. I researched all the cast members. Love the show.

Wonderful tribute! Mr. Drury's last years were very sad and not what people thought they were which made me even more sad. They have never released the reason for his death except to say he died with his loved ones around him at home. No one, absolutely NO one could have ever been The Virginian but him.

Can still see the western on GRIT.They run two episodes weekly around 9 and 10 am. Didn't realize ,that TRAMPAS was a fast gun - until I saw in duel gunfight .Funny and FAST ! DRURY played a lot of bad guys on westerns before he hit pay dirt on THE VIRGINIAN for 9 seasons. Earned his keep. R.I.P.

This video brought on the tears. I really love The Virginian...I have been watching it on StarzEncore for the past couple of months. James Drury was the best! I'm up to season 7, but I skipped ahead to season 9, just to see how Stewart Granger was going to fit in. He was terrible! I understand he was responsible for the change of the show's title, the opening music and the opening credits...just awful. But James Drury gave his usual wonderful performances. Thanks for this video.
