  • This is the best Inverter for the dollar These have UPS-Solar Charge-Internal battery charger & pure sine wave. 12 volt -amzn.to/2hOZWAl
    MEAN WELL inverters are the best secret in the inverter and power supply world.
    The TN 1500 and TN 3000 are serious quality and cheaper than most like products. Made in every input voltage and output you could imagine.

    Hi John,
    I finally made it after replacement of the solar panel as well as the wiring between the charger and the battery. It is hard to find AWG 4 cable here, so I just made 4 parallel AWG 10 cables to connect the battery bank. The result is so far so good. Provided that the panel got 2.5A current, the solar charger works perfectly.

    Thank again John. Yes, I got few fuses already from the auto parts store. Just I got confused about those fuse parameters. Some books suggested that I should have 600 VDC (Volt-direct-current) fuse with midget / 5AG form factory, but the normal fuseI got from the auto parts store only have 100 or less VDC rating and it is relatively small in size. Not really understand the importance of the VDC rating and if the size matter.

    Looks its is going to work good. I just got a xantrex 1800i hope I can wire it up.

    Thanks for the vid.. I recently picked up a 1500w mean well inverter from ah friend but not sure if it works it has an Ac input and when I plug it in I can't seem to get any power ???
    Does the inverter require both the ac and DC connected in order to get power?

    Hi John,
    Not yet. According to the manufacturer, it is required to have at least 3A current for the solar charger to work. First of all the weather was very bad in the last two week and I got few problems with my China made solar panel. Each panel suppose to have 6A current max, but I seldom got it working at 3A. I have to replace the solar panels from the manufacturer first. This is my first trial on solar energy and there is still a long way to go.

    Thanks for your advice John. Yes, wiring is another issue. Do you mean that I should start with AWG 5 cable (4.62mm diameter)? Currently I am only using AWG 8 cable as per suggestion from Meanwell for a 30A system.

    Thanks John. Yes, I am also considering to replace the Meanwell internal PWM charger with a MorningStar MPPT 30A controller, but not sure what will happen if the panels got over 30A. Will it burn the controller? or the controller will just throw excessive current away.

    Hi John,
    It is nice to find your video here. I also bought meanwell TN-1500, but I am suffering from a problem with my solar panels. I can never made the solar charge light on even through the panel does provide about 16V output if I measure directly at the solar input of the TN-1500 with the Solar panels connected. Could you kindly advice what mode are you using to get solar charge? I am using "Stand-by saving mode" and "Energy saving mode". Many thanks.

    Watched your cleaning video.......from your previous comment I just need a solar charge controller to fix the issue of my solar led light not staying lit and charging my batteries???? Thanks paulyz

      +Paul Zimballs I was running the solar limit of 360 watts into the inverter, the fuse inside blew out, so I reduced the power to 320 watts and put a jumper in place of the fuse then fused externally as you seen. All began working again.
      But I have heard of a solid state relay on the board failing from too many solar amps and the internal PWM controller stopping all together. Rare though.

    Bought solar charge controller....controller says it's is charging battery.....where do the wires from solar input on inverter now go??? As I see your led on your inverter is lite and mine is not??? I am a newbie and not intelligent as yourself but am grateful for your abundance of knowledge....

      +Paul Zimballs Did you buy a separate charge controller and trying to feed that into the inverter if you're doing that that might not work if its internal controller is bad. Wire a separate controller direct to battery.

    I wonder if someone can advise me. During the day under sunny conditions, the TN1500-224 solar charge light indicator was not lighted up but AC charge light indicator was lit. The battery voltage was about 26volts. Since the battery is not fully charged, it should take in AC charge and Solar charge for battery charging...but only AC charge is activated. WHat can be the problem?

    By the way, do you have any recommendation on circuit breaker (with auto trip function) or fuse? I have to install it shortly after the 6th solar panel installation (Max current of each panel is 6A. It may burn the inverter under an extreme case). Some books recommend two individual 15A fuses with 600VDC rating. I think it is good, but quite expensive in long run. It is around USD30 each here. I am thinking if circuit break with auto trip function could be used instead of an once-off fuse.

    P.S. I am using a 12V system. Appreciated if you can share the parameters such as solar input current and voltage for my reference. Thanks

    Hi. did you directly connect the solar panel to the inverter? For some reason, I have voltage from the batteries on the solar connector.

    • @JOHNDANIEL1
      @JOHNDANIEL1  Год назад

      Yes, it has separate terminals just for solar input. 30 amp.

      If you have a Solar Charger in a TS model, it never came with solar controller HOWEVER, the video here give you a inside look Jeff ruclips.net/video/6492U5rDCp8/видео.html

      I have since stopped using the PWM controller in the inverter and put a extra 100 watt panel on and added the bulletproof EP Ever amzn.to/2eVZ9BQ and now i get almost 20% more power plus without adding internal heat to the sweet Mean Well.

    Hi John. I hope you are still using your meanwell with no fault. I would like to purchase myself another 48vdc TN1500. I like to have your valuable recommendation before my purchase. Max Voc for inverter is given 75vdc but when I wire my 6 panels in serries - parallel.max Voc is around 79vdc and 28 amps. Would that 4 volts difference damage the inverter? Thanks in advance.

    • @JOHNDANIEL1
      @JOHNDANIEL1  3 года назад

      Mean well inverters are extremely sensitive so max voltage listed should be paid attention to very closely. You can reduce your panel's high voltage output by making the solar wires a lot longer.

    Thanks John. Voltage test seems OK. I have about 42V Voc because of 2, 120W, panels in series (one panel is about 21V). Other than suspecting the fuse in the TN1500 blown, I really can't figure out what else can go wrong. Last resort, have to send back to meanwell to check on the inverter. I am reluctant to do so because the turnaround time is far too long.

    Update.....internal fuse blown from hooking up solar panels with charge controller....added external fuse similar to our solar genius ....j.d.....haven't hooked everything back up yet but solar charge led/ charge... should now have no issues......ty....ty....ty

    So added external fuse ......appears to be a reverse polarity fuse...solar led still not lit!! Rrrrrr.....is there any other fuses inside this beast?? Mine does not have external gfi on the 110 plugs on inverter!! Battery still not charging off solar!! Baffled....?.?? Help oh wise one

    • @JOHNDANIEL1
      @JOHNDANIEL1  6 лет назад

      It is entirely possible the circuit has failed, but to test that you have to have a battery at about 12 volts even, and connect the solar at night. Never connect solar like the manual will tell you on all/any controllers with load in action. The current inrush will burn the Mosfets in the controllers. I always connect at night. Then you will reset the controller if its in fault, or it will not raise the battery if its failed.
