I read Circe before TSOA and they’re so different (although I love both). TSOA is a beautiful coming of age story and has a lot more dynamic elements compared to Circe. Even if you’re not into greek mythology, TSOA can be read like fantasy because the way she builds the characters and relationships feels so much more like you’re on a journey with them compared to hashing out lineage and the dynamics of the gods like what happens in Circe. TSOA truly changed my life and will remain my favorite book even if objectively better books are written. I always say that if I could’ve written any book that exists, I would choose that one!!! I hope you love it!!

  • @rebeccasreads

I'd say definitely read the Song of Achilles. Circe's story is kind of odd because she was a side character of MENs stories in greek mythology, which is why the book is a little off (like no main build up to a key plot point - i found this off first too until i realised why). Whereas the Song of Achilles, is more like a traditional story given the main characters are male. I would say the two books aren't comparable, but Song of Achilles is the reason I now read and had me SOBBING

The Song of Achilles is my all time favorite book. I’ve never read a book with such poetic writing that wasn’t a straight up classic. This story has love and grief. You don’t need to be interested in Greek mythology to enjoy it. I read it before I read Circe and honestly I loved Circe but it did fall kinda flat for me compared to The Song of Achilles.
