The outtakes in princess and the pauper, and magic of pegasus one were LEGENDARY. Also, barbie Rapunzel was certainly the best Rapunzel adaptation before tangled came along. So iconic.
So may get a bit of hate but... kinda prefer the barbie version. Just coz they went against the norm for rapunzel adaptations and her hair wasn't what helped her escape, they instead kept that as a dream sequence and gave her a magic paintbrush (is her love of painting in the original story or did tangled steal that from this movie?) and later her hair is used in a different way to trick the prince. It just feels like a more original spin on the tale, plus I like penolope a whole lot more then Pascal and I like how rapunzel's parents (at least dad) actually played something of a role in the barbie movie rather then just being a bit of set dressing like he was in tangled.
Tangled is very obviously is a great film but I firmly believe about 53% of it's charm comes from the frying pan and the fact that there are fleeting similarities b/w Flynn Rider and Sebastian Stan

As a kid I refused to watch Barbie in the Nutcracker just because I liked the Nutcracker and hated the fact that he almost dies and then proceeds to turn into ugly human and dance with Barbie. I still refuse to watch it for same reasons-
Same with Beauty and the Beast. Its not my favorite, partly because for the longest time I thought Beast actually killed and or ate Maurice when he takes him to the dungeon. And admittedly I actually like his Beast form more than human, doesn’t help his actual name is never even mentioned at all.
It honestly kills me (it's hilarious) how loved Preminger is. He's basically a power hungry misogynist (if you wanna argue that take a look on his attitude towards Anneliese), he certainly was coded in a way to be at least disliked, and here's the fandom totes going against it. It's so intriguing.
To be fair, his design is boss and he's voiced by Martin Short. He's despicable without being annoying, he's actually a lot of fun to watch. Contrast that with more realistically despicable characters, like Madame Carpe. The difference is that few of us have to deal with scheming advisors who want to take our thrones, but most of us could deal with exploitative and abusive employers, so the hate we have for the latter hits harder than the former. And even at his worst, Preminger is still comedic.
But Preminger is the most powerful villain ever like he's just "If I can't marry the princess to annex the kingdom, I WOULD MARRY THE QUEEN" then proceed to laugh like a Preminger.
It's hard to put into words how much I adore how Barbie evolved in the early 2000's and continues to be presented to this day. It's completely unapologetic about being simple stories about something going wrong and a girl fixing it. It doesn't act like it's anything special, even when it has underlying themes of queerness, classism, sexism or ableism (no matter how small they are). And Barbie as a character went from a role-model to look like to a role-model to BE like, fulfilling any role in her toys and movies, getting the tagline "You can be anything!" on a toy for little girls is such a stellar move. Heck, the only thing she can't be is a different ethnicity (since that could be considered cultural appropriation or otherwise offensive for a myriad of reasons) so they added characters to fill out the racial diversity and make sure no girl felt alienated, even if Barbie's looks aren't what matters anymore. But her not changing design also signifies a message of bodily positivity too "you're allowed to be pretty and pursue whatever career you want, but you don't have too". It doesn't care anymore about anything but spreading a simple, good message to little girls and that's just fucking awesome.
I get kinda sad seeing how barbie isn't much popular with kids these days, it was my whole childhood and such a good way to teach good things to girls. Also the quality of the dolls has been so disappointing

Ok so I’m French Canadian so of course I watched Fairytopia dubbed in French when I was a kid. I just remembered that in an effort to make the butterfly man sound posh (I think?), they gave him a British accent. In French. Imagine a posh British person with a posh British accent speaking French. His R’s were pronounced the English way that sounds like a mix between a W and a Y instead of the French glottal purring sound R’s. His vowels were weird too. I would tentatively describe them as wet sounding? Lots of diphthongs. I don’t know why they felt the need to bring his accent into the dub. None of the other characters had an accent. It was just him being weird. (To be fair he was an anthropomorphic butterfly wearing tights so what do I know?)

Would 100% watch a part 2, especially if it includes Barbie and the Diamond Castle and/or Barbie Thumbelina, as those movies were some of the only ones my family had on DVD growing up, so seeing any footage from them would be incredibly nostalgic.
Those two are my exact favorites, i almost never see anyone mention them
I can't say thumbelina is my favourite barbie move (that honor probably goes to diamond castle) but it's definitely the one I watched the most as a kid.

Ok so I’m French Canadian so of course I watched Fairytopia dubbed in French when I was a kid. I just remembered that in an effort to make the butterfly man sound posh (I think?), they gave him a British accent. In French. Imagine a posh British person with a posh British accent speaking French. His R’s were pronounced the English way that sounds like a mix between a W and a Y instead of the French glottal purring sound R’s. His vowels were weird too. I would tentatively describe them as wet sounding? Lots of diphthongs. I don’t know why they felt the need to bring his accent into the dub. None of the other characters had an accent. It was just him being weird. (To be fair he was an anthropomorphic butterfly wearing tights so what do I know?)
