    The players didn't like the grey uniforms and found it hard to see each other on the field. They said it was difficult to spot teammates from a distance. It wasn't about superstition..SAF said, "This club went 26 years without winning the league, and we didn't think about changing the red shirts. It's not about that at all." This comment might have seemed like an overreaction especially since they lost badly that day and the league title was at risk. However, winning the title in the end made it less serious. I remember that day well as a kid.. I thought my dad had changed the channel when I sat down for the second half because everything looked so weird...

      As Michael Gove and Boris Johnson said "the British public have had enough of experts."

    • @koncorde
      @koncorde 4 месяца назад +7

      I don't think the expert had spoken to Utd, they just did a study on the impact of colours and sporting performance i.e. that the highest proportion of successful teams around the world wear red, or have some kind of red as part of their kit. The next most successful was Black & White. Some of this is confirmation bias of course, but interesting argument of psychology. Other studies identified that fans identify success with certain colours as well, making them inherently bias.
      As for Utd. The issue at Southampton was the Dell itself. The crowd was closer to the players making them blend in more. England wore a grey kit, as did Chelsea, with little serious complaint - and multiple clubs have had them since.

      Not really. The man who made Man Utd what it is today is none other than Sir Matt Busby. And he played for Manchester City & Liverpool in his playing career. Won the FA Cup with man city & was even a captain at Liverpool. Following some differences with people on the Liverpool board, he went to become the Man Utd manager and the rest is history.

    I always thought it was mad that the kit man had brought the blue and white one too.
    there was a Utd home game against Arsenal a few years later and Bosnich had to change his yellow jersey, as it clashed with Arsenal’s away kit.
    they didn’t have a replacement handy that night (at home!?) and he was wearing a grey training top for the first half

      It's good to be prepared.
      In 2001/02, Coventry had to wear Portsmouth's orange away shirt when playing at Fratton park as the ref decided the kit they brought with them wasn't distinct enough from Pompey's blue home kit.

    I remember when Jimmy Hill made the observation about the grey kit on Match of the Day saying ’the players can’t see each other’ and he was treated like a mad old man. The panel show They Think it’s All Over had a dig as my patchy memory recalls, but had to hold their hands up and give him props when Man Utd made the kit switch for that very reason, which indeed produced improved performances.

    Hi, can you provide a long/short video on which league has most number of goals in a single league season campaign. Today premeir league surpassed the record and it is 1223 league goals in a single campaign.
    The record for the total number of goals scored in an entire league season in a single division is held by the English Football League (EFL) Division 3 North during the 1930-1931 season, with a total of 1,999 goals scored. This record was achieved in a 24-team league where each team played 46 matches, contributing to the exceptionally high goal tally.

    Watch the match and see if MU had unusual error rates attributable to being unable to pick out their team mates, as claimed. Going from losing the first half 3-0 to winning the second half 1-0 suggests there's something in it (even considering tactical changes from both sides).
    Those wondering why on earth they'd bring out a grey kit: Please understand that the purpose of being a kit sponsor is to take money off people by selling them merchandise, and promoting your brand. It has almost nothing to do with performance.
