He still amazes me with his knowledge. My dad and I are also people who want to fix and understand everything, but the time we spend on it is endless, still worth it.
I joined the channel when Dean had less than 5k subscribers. really nice to see how the channel has grown. Goes to show when you have good content you'll draw a crowd. Good on you Dean
@@connahjones8178 indeed my friend. Very helpful and entertaining content. Sometimes makes you want to tear down a perfectly working tool and see the internals. Speaking from experience hahaha
@ i actually do fix tools for a hobby, i got three makita HR2630’s from a guy which didn’t hold the bit (the guy didnt know he needed to grease the chuck 🤦🏻♂️) i replaced the piston seals and work great! £55 for all three but can sell for £45ish :) i enjoy it though, most of my cordless makita gear i fixed
Dean, I've been buying Knipex tools ever since I started watching your videos. It's great to have a go-to hand tool company where you don't have to worry about poor quality. Thanks for the tip!
Hi Dean I have a lithium battery when fully charged 4 lights on battery when using it the battery stops working when it goes to 3 lights a needs charged again can it be fixed hope that all makes sense any help appreciated
As always, great work Dean! Your skill, experience, and very helpful commentary has helped countless people save a lot of money in diagnosing faults. Many thanks and good health to you and yours.
Watching you fixing drill made remember I had black and decker not working so pulled apart one lead off trigger came put it in tightened screw now working thank you
50:25 Not chamfering those edges during manufacturing is a major design flaw by the manufacturer... Who knows how many of those got thrown out (and new ones re-purchased) because of that mistake
what I have found that sometimes works on jammed chucks is to put it into drill mode, reverse and then get a good hold of the chuck and pull the trigger. Be careful of the friction heat but it's got me out of trouble before.
That FF sander looks pretty good. They seem to only sell in Europe. I'd be interested in buying some if they come to the states. I hope some U.S. channels can get their hands on some for testing.
Thanks for the video. The last dewalt drill with the chuck, just wondering if you could put the chuck in a vise and use the motor of the drill to take the chuck off?
Great video Dean. Very well explained. I have a question for you. Makita 453 has been dropped now the chuck does not run true. What would the likely culprit be?
Always curious what grease you use, anyway you could keep a tube in the background just for reference? I’m sure tou get asked all the time. Learning a lot from you. Cheers for the vids!
Hey dean you legend got a question from the land down under. Just wondering contemplating buying a 150mm sander and stumped on buying the rotex or the Bosch gex 150 I don’t mind spending the money if it’s worth it as I will use it professionally. Just wondering what you’re take is on it be awesome if u see this as I trust you’re opinion over anyone thanks heaps mate. Anyone else’s input that’s owned a bosh would love to hear from you
Hey man, I’m not Dean but being a woodworker myself professionally and liking tools just as much as you probably do this video is a really good comparison of the model ruclips.net/video/7KxTH1gJe60/видео.htmlsi=5bSk-qGRR7TIWUy8 731 woodworks did it 1 week ago or so. Have a nice day
31:40 I've been in construction for 15 years and I've never seen a blown brushless tool. I think you saw too many burnt makita controllers and forgot how many blown armatures you've changed.
I bought a Makita orbital sander when my Titan branded one no longer worked. I found the Makita one was nowhere near as good so I looked at the Titan one, cleaning out the dust and then noticed that one of the bearings had seized up from the dust. It worked perfectly again after just being cleaned out and lubricated. Also had a really cheap brand that actually works quite well and found it failed once while under warranty. The cost of sending it for repair meant it wasn't worth sending off so I opened it and found the cause was a black mark on the switch contacts. After a clean that one worked fine too.
They are cheap screwfix brand. I've only had 2 tools and they are both brilliant. Sds hammer and the workshop vac with the power pass thru. I have tried to kill that thing and it sounds horrible now but still works after vacuuming drains, muddy puddles, sawdust, plaster, stones. Would buy again. Recommended for DIY use anyway.
From what I hear this is a common occurence with the old Hitachi NiCad machines, the batteries fail and they're left up on the shelf never bothered to be fixed. The tool itself is very good though.
It's funny because what you explained for the Makita chuck on the dhp481 didn't happen when I changed mine but I worked with it quite a bit so that's strange
I have one of them Beanz-o-matic blow torches and I found when it won't light first go I take the shroud off and pull the wire back up a bit towards the shroud and it lights the flame every time.
Many of the people who buy the authentic ones have kids in college and have huge student loans and unpaid home mortgages, but still spend thousands of dollars on handbags. I often recommend kislux to them, they have good quality brand bags.
They are not professional tools which means that they don't usually last as long or are as easily repairable but if you don't need them all day long it's all good. Might only be a bit slower at the task then the more expensive model that's it. 😉
Im 18, i have nothing to do with fixing tools, but i love youre videos, keep it up man youre awesome

29:40 if you have a powersupply with enough amps you can clamp down the field and use aligators clips on sacrificial brushes to test the armature.

Thought Titan were a cheap diy brand?

@@ClifftopTragedy thanks for sharing. I tend to try avoid tools brands that dont supply parts as much as possible to be honest
I have 3 Hitachi 24 volt N -I-Candium hammer drills, need batteries. Or switches. Just gathering dust. They were none better in their day
I use a MAPP gas burner called Rothenberger - also a little expensive but works well
Milwaukee grinder for clikbait😂
😂😂😂😂 I saw that too
Can you put brushed dc armatures on the growler? Appreciate the great video again Dean even when I'm only 10minutes in
OMG, you actually answered that in the video :) :) :)
Where do you buy your chucks with the red band? Tried a google search on the name and could not find any.
They are simply cheap generic chucks.
@@deandohertygreaser Where do you get them, any search in Canada shows nothing on the brand name.
From what I hear this is a common occurence with the old Hitachi NiCad machines, the batteries fail and they're left up on the shelf never bothered to be fixed. The tool itself is very good though.
Think you can get adaptors now for running li ion batteries in nicad stuff. No idea how good though
Hii Dean thank you for content!!! can i ask you which camera are you using? an action cam? thanks
Top job as always. Listen, I'm looking to buy the dewalt 921 / 922 impact for my car. you know if its any good? Cheers from Greece.
On the Bosch drill, can you not buy an O ring not made by Bosch. Is there something special about it, is it not a standard size?
It's funny because what you explained for the Makita chuck on the dhp481 didn't happen when I changed mine but I worked with it quite a bit so that's strange
what grease do you use ?
Nice one! Do you sometimes buy or get donated broken tools from customers for parts?
He buys some broken stuff off ebay for projects/parts. Not sure about donations
There is no such thing as a memory on Ni-MH chemistry. That only used to be a problem on old Ni-CD.
Wow this channel is exploding!
Man, I used to buy Burns and Maddox until they went to shit. I’ve had such bad luck with them if you want a nice one the brand is goss
I have one of them Beanz-o-matic blow torches and I found when it won't light first go I take the shroud off and pull the wire back up a bit towards the shroud and it lights the flame every time.
long live Ireland
Hi dean do you buy your own tools? If you do get in contact with Wiha for a tool deal i see their tools every episode
Is that a new wera flathead screwdriver is see? Or is that wiha?
Nevermind, i just got to the point where you said it was a wiha screwdriver lmao
Many of the people who buy the authentic ones have kids in college and have huge student loans and unpaid home mortgages, but still spend thousands of dollars on handbags. I often recommend kislux to them, they have good quality brand bags.
Sunday viewing sorted 👌
I see new Wiha tools and you didn't bother to show us? :D
I swear if your using tools often at least every 3 months clean them inside and out...
You must know what you are doing , holding that wire.
