I think that's because its been said that Oikawa is currently better. He's had more overall experience and training, and can bring out the best in his teammates, but there's an awareness that once Kageyama catches up, and he will, he's bound to be better, because on top of that training and experience, he has what Oikawa lacks: raw genius.

Unpolished, this would've been worth shit, but polished and applied, they'd be able to get further than someone who lacks the natural advantage and is JUST working hard. I absolutely adore Oikawa. He is so handsome, hilarious and ridiculously talented all at the same time. The fact that his advice to Kageyama ultimately led to his own defeat shows how genuinely he enjoys competition. He didn't have to say anything but that also means he wouldnt be able to compete with them at their best (and to be fair, he probably didnt think they would improve as much as they did 🤣🤣)

For those who hate Oikawa, think about it, even though he was jealous of his talented junior surpassing him, he became a phenomenal setter himself, and he actually secretly cares for Kageyama as a junior and treats him as a true rival, although his jerkish acts don't really help prove that. I personally think he thought of Kageyama as an annoying little brother. To him, annoying, but brother nonetheless.

Oikawa is a pretty realistic character. Team-oriented and a true competitor during competitions but he's actually a humble one judging by how he gives an advice to Kageyama, and also I love how Haikyuu gives this flawed character to him like he looks tough but inside he was very soft and he has his own insecure side towards some of his competitors like kags and ushiwaka, when he was actually at the same level with them😄
I admired oikawa's character the most. His hardwork, cute 'yohooo', tobio-chan, baka baka, iwa chan, serves (especially the ohhhhhhhhs) and the hardwork to be such successful player will always be remembered.

I really can't understand people who dislike Oikawa...he's possibly the most relatable character in the series. Not born special, but works himself hard to the bone to be where he's at. Considers his teammates and values all of their feelings. To people who say he bullies...he never does. He gets pissed off, and acts childish and immature sometimes, but he never has bullied anyone. And I'm sure anyone would feel so frustrated and pissed off if you slaughter away countless hours at the gym, practicing and practicing and practicing relentlessly, and then some little uppity brat who was just "born with it" decides to target you and makes it their goal to beat you....not only to beat you, but to get your help to beat you. Oikawa's a fighter, and in any other anime his characteristics would shine brightly as a protagonist. He isn't going to meekly step aside because someone who is naturally talented wants to beat him. He's going to fight, and work hard, and not give up even when things are hopeless and people tell him he just doesn't have "it" the way Kageyama or Ushijima do. He's going to trust his teammates and never blame them, and never regret his decisions. I have the most respect for Oikawa over any character in this series
I do like Oikawa's character a lot! But if there is one thing I don't completely agree with, it's that he is an ordinary player. I know he is not a genius like Kageyama. But his ability to read the game is incredible. He basically does half of the job of a coach, which obviously makes him a good player. He is not completely ordinary. He thinks he is ordinary. That is his inferiority complex. And I hope he will get out of it.

Tbh I really like this scene because it’s one of the only ones that shows Oikawa’s more tactical and leader side. We get to see him acting up a lot so when we see this more cool and well-spoken side to him as a senior to Kaga, I really understood why he was the leader of Aoba Johsai.
I only watch Haikyuu because of Oikawa. And anyone who thinks that these two boys hate each other is very mistaken. They understand each other more than anyone else. My favorite characters ❤️
I honestly really love how Oikawa gives advice to Kageyama in this. I can understand why people don't like him but I personally love him. His backstory is so great and I'm so happy we saw that the rivalry was more than just "I don't like him because he was my rival in middle school." It kind of was but definitely had more depth. And now matter how many times Oikawa denies it, I honestly think (and a lot of other players have said this, too, including Iwa), that Kageyama is Oikawa's junior/student.
Don't get me wrong, I love Oikawa. He's a cutie and he really knows how to lead. Also he's funny. But the thing is I just don't think he's the relationship type. There's something off about him too. It's like he's hyper aware that he can get people to like and listen to him and he likes to use that power for himself...if it's possible for me to actually get a real life guy like Oikawa's attention I'd be delighted but...also wary.

people hate him because he almost hit kageyama but they don’t understand why he did it. oikawa worked his ass off only to get surpassed by a genius who was younger than him. that’s so frustrating, especially when it’s a genius who was just born that way. you can’t help but hate that person. plus kageyama also got into a fight with hinata and pushed, kicked and hit him multiple times

I really can't understand people who dislike Oikawa...he's possibly the most relatable character in the series. Not born special, but works himself hard to the bone to be where he's at. Considers his teammates and values all of their feelings. To people who say he bullies...he never does. He gets pissed off, and acts childish and immature sometimes, but he never has bullied anyone. And I'm sure anyone would feel so frustrated and pissed off if you slaughter away countless hours at the gym, practicing and practicing and practicing relentlessly, and then some little uppity brat who was just "born with it" decides to target you and makes it their goal to beat you....not only to beat you, but to get your help to beat you.
Oikawa's a fighter, and in any other anime his characteristics would shine brightly as a protagonist. He isn't going to meekly step aside because someone who is naturally talented wants to beat him. He's going to fight, and work hard, and not give up even when things are hopeless and people tell him he just doesn't have "it" the way Kageyama or Ushijima do. He's going to trust his teammates and never blame them, and never regret his decisions.
I have the most respect for Oikawa over any character in this series
I do like Oikawa's character a lot! But if there is one thing I don't completely agree with, it's that he is an ordinary player. I know he is not a genius like Kageyama. But his ability to read the game is incredible. He basically does half of the job of a coach, which obviously makes him a good player. He is not completely ordinary. He thinks he is ordinary. That is his inferiority complex. And I hope he will get out of it.

Tbh I really like this scene because it’s one of the only ones that shows Oikawa’s more tactical and leader side. We get to see him acting up a lot so when we see this more cool and well-spoken side to him as a senior to Kaga, I really understood why he was the leader of Aoba Johsai.

I honestly really love how Oikawa gives advice to Kageyama in this. I can understand why people don't like him but I personally love him. His backstory is so great and I'm so happy we saw that the rivalry was more than just "I don't like him because he was my rival in middle school." It kind of was but definitely had more depth. And now matter how many times Oikawa denies it, I honestly think (and a lot of other players have said this, too, including Iwa), that Kageyama is Oikawa's junior/student.

Don't get me wrong, I love Oikawa. He's a cutie and he really knows how to lead. Also he's funny. But the thing is I just don't think he's the relationship type. There's something off about him too. It's like he's hyper aware that he can get people to like and listen to him and he likes to use that power for himself...if it's possible for me to actually get a real life guy like Oikawa's attention I'd be delighted but...also wary.
