Watching all the bats come out and circle the entrance before going out to feed on insects was probably one of the coolest things I've ever seen. When they're all out the sky is almost all black due to all the bats.
Oh how I need to go there, my whole youth I heard my mom talk about living in Carlsbad NM and that my oldest sister was born there, about there visits to Carlsbad caverns and seeing pictures of my parents there. My parents and my sister have all passed away and it just feels like a place I need to go ! Well a couple of days ago I got out my little sewing box to get something and there with my mending stuff is an old pinking shears box that I had kept of my moms stuff, I opened it and there inside is the “pinking shears Guarantee”, mom had filled out with their address in Carlsbad...505 S. Walnut, purchased at Yours Foods for $3.00 !!! Then I come to RUclips to watch “keepyourdaydream” and this episode pops up !! I think me and my Scamp are headed south when all this snow melts !!!
I have lived in NM almost my entire life and still love going to White Sands. Another very cool thing to do there is The Space Hall of Fame in Alamogordo, NM. It is only about 30 minutes from White Sands.
and Ruidosa which has skiing at Sierra Blanca & horseracing & Lincoln national forest & a casino and Cloudcroft also has skiing are both very close. Very beautiful mountains
Once again great video. I have been to white sand's but not the caverns, next trip out west I'll mark the caverns of my bucket list. I and friends did go to New Mexico two years ago. We were out there on a razor ride trip and stopped by the white sand's and yes it gets windy out there. I had at point pulled over and waited for the wind to die down, it was plowing my 45' motorcoach and 24' stacker trailer around. keep the rubber on the road.
Yeah, I saw the sand screens by chairs and thought this would be a violent place in the wind! Your rig would fit in well with our Mexican caravan. Many 40+ footers and Razors. These guys are riding 3k miles on their Razer in one season.
Great video once again. I live in the area of White Sands, Ruidoso NM. Just an FYI, because you were there in Feb the dunes were cold. This makes for the best sledding. In the summer the sleds don't slide as well. When he was referring to the sticks, he was talking about the hiking trail that is located at the end of the road into the dunes. Its a 3-4 mile hike. Take water, sun screen, and a hat. Its a fantastic hike. Also, an important thing to know is the wind. Our area has high winds from the end of Feb to around end of April. This is caused from cold fronts going across North of us (Southern CO). The wind is sucked up from the South being pulled by the cold front. The parking is great most of the year. Its a large area. I would avoid the holidays, July 4th, Memorial weekend, Labor day. Oh, another tip. Admittance is free on these dates in 2017: (and its not crowded!) January 16: Martin Luther King Jr. DayFebruary 20: Presidents' DayApril 15-16 and 22-23: Weekends of National Park WeekAugust 25: National Park Service BirthdaySeptember 30: National Public Lands DayNovember 11-12: Veterans Day Weekend Sorry you guys missed our beautiful town of Ruidoso and Lincoln County. Come back another time to teach the kids about the Lincoln County war in the 1870s. It was a conflict between rival cattle barons New Mexico Territory. In the early 1870's two men by the names of Lawrence Murphy and James Dolan owned the only store in Lincoln County. It also involved Billy the Kid.
That makes sense about always tracking by their pre-staked pole in front and one behind. Reminded me of a story about a Nebraska blizzard in the 1800s. The teacher of a one room school house tied each of her students to a long rope then headed through the snow to their homes. They never made it, but were found the next day only a few hundred feet from the schoolhouse-sadly frozen. God bless them. They got disoriented together. Hindsight says they might have been better off staying put. All nature acts according to its own and respect is required from ours. But so is ingenuity, adventure, the joy of life and earnest desires to protect our loved ones.
Your too kind. Thanks. Getting a bit better each time (I think). Loving Mexico. The Drone footage we got yesterday was epic. Can't wait to started editing Season 2, but still a few more episodes to close out Season 1.
In 3 days, I binged watch all your videos. This was the last one, as I started at the next one and went around. Nice fam lot of character and class. Good editing, I would say you are in top 10% of youtube editors, you can tell you put time into it. Ok, now I can watch weekly, because that was time consuming, but enjoyable. Good job!
Lol. Best comment award goes to... Alan Powell. We've been there. Found a channel and we liked and it was nearly depressing when we were caught-up. Thanks for your comment. Better get started on the next vid!
Another great video, guys. I was born and raised in Carlsbad, NM so have been there to the caves (as well as new cave) many times. I don't know if they told you (I only found out about four years ago) but your tickets to the caverns are actually good for two consecutive days. I only know because I'd made a comment as I was leaving that I'd misjudged my time, spending a lot of time taking photos of the caverns, and didn't have time to go through the Kings Palace. That's when the person I was talking to said, "Come back tomorrow! Your ticket is good for two days." I returned the following day to take the balance of the photos I had wanted to take. Sadly, Carlsbad itself does not have the same wonderful atmosphere it had when my brother and I were growing up. Also, for anyone who is thinking of visiting Carlsbad the traffic is really bad now due to the petroleum industry. The town and its roads were originally designed for a population of approximately 30,000 but now there are around 80,000 people on the roads on any given day because of temporary oil industry workers. As surprising as it may sound, traffic on the south end of town can actually back up as badly as rush hour traffic here in Dallas these days. But the Caverns are definitely a must see in my book. Thanks for the video, Marc.
Marc, thank you so much for the handicap/wheelchair tip for the caverns!!! My husband and I, with our 2 daughters and two dogs are about to launch our full time rv adventure. My husband is in an electric wheelchair and it is so good to have this information!!!! Thank you!!
The Great Sand Dunes National Park near Alamosa, CO has camp grounds and some really tall dunes for sledding down if you dare to climb them! There's also cool/cold running water from the adjacent mountains right at the base of the dunes!
Hey guys i watch your crazy but amazing videos all the time. My family & I just went to white sands nm . For as long as I have lived here I never bother on coming but now that I got engaged my new family & I had a blast. Love the RV videos they really help help.
Another awesome video. I am impressed with your video quality. My wife and I enjoy watching your family adventures every week. Congrats on 20.000 subscribers. Thanks guys.
Liked the video. Seeing the bat flight in Carlsbad is awesome to see. Whitesands is a great place. There is more to see and you where so close. Whitesands missile base is an Army missile testing site. They are always launching from the base south of Whitesands over the highway. Holloman AFB was just east of Whitesands and there is a NASA space museum in the town of Alamogordo. The high speed sled testing is done on Holloman AFB and the sled of the fastest human is at the museum. The monkey farm (that's what we called it) is where the fist monkey in space came from. Trinity site is far away but in the area. Also the Space Shuttle landed in that area. I spent 3yrs stationed at Holloman AFB and the drive from the base to Las Cruses always had DUI drivers. There are road side liquor drive ups.
Wow, great comment. I hope others read it. You're right. Much more to do! I didn't know the missile testing site would allow visitors or we'd be able to see missiles take off. That would have been great. I guess we saved some for later! :)
Father daughter tips is cool. Glad it's back. Your videos are getting better and better. An absolutely awesome video and that family photo in the video was amazing. Thanks for sharing.
Amazing places! Thank you for taking me on y'all's adventures! Y'all truly need to be on tv! Travel channel, History channel, comedy sitcom, something! Y'all provide such great information and are very entertaining! You need to sell autograph family pictures, I'd buy one! What a great family adventure! Thanks for sharing!
Lol. Thanks. That would be cool. We've had a production companies reach out for some skype auditions, but nothing panned in. In both cases, they didn't continue with the show so who knows if we would have gotten it. :)
I know all about the missiles. In 1995 I was stationed on Ft. Bliss TX El Paso. I was a Patriot missile operator. And white sands is where the air defense artillary ADA does training excercises. It’s a beautiful place.
White sand is fun to go to tips: sunblock lots of it, also a change of clothes would be wise. The sand gets everywhere and will be all over your car. The sleds are also a must.
You've got skills and you keep getting better. I ended up with a Sony A7RII after 20 years using only Cannon Gear. Still using my Cannon lenses, and still have a lot to learn even after 20 years. You have a great eye for composition! My RV is still under cover for the winter, but soon we'll be hitting the road. We are looking for a nice 3-4 week adventure for the summer, lots of beach time, maybe some surf, not overpriced. What else is new... right! After seeing this, looks like Im bringing the snowboards this summer!
Keep Your Daydream still not sure. We are starting from north burbs of Chicago and heading south. That's as far as I've gotten into planning. :) wife wants Florida, I want Grand Canyon or other wonders of the world. So we are currently on completely opposite ends of the vacation spectrum.
Both are Amazing. FL is more RV Friendly. But humid in the summer. AZ is hot as hell and might be hard on the tires and engine, but beautiful too. You'll have the AC going in both states, so it's likely equal. You can't go wrong.
Hello, I have enjoyed watching your families adventure. As a father of three ( one girl and two boys:)) I have been inspired by your journey and hope to see some of the places you have been. I was wondering, how do you like your ford F 150 as a tow vehicle? Is it the aluminum body? And how well do you think it is holding up? Looking to buy a truck this year to tow our travel trailer that we are pulling with a mini van at the moment. As you can imagine it is a small trailer but looking to upgrade as my kids get bigger. I have been looking at Fords and Toyotas and thought it would be good see what you have experienced with your Ford.
Hey there Darin. Yes, as discussed in previous videos, I'm a big Ford fan it's the dominate truck at the RV parks. I do not have the Eco boost, but I've heard good things. I have the Raptor 6.2L engine. Left AZ with 62k miles and now have close to 85k without a single issue. Original brakes - only 2 oil changes. Pulls 9,200lbs up hills at 60mph, but I tend to only go 45-60 now. Not in much of a hurry anymore. If I were to do it again I'd get a diesel only so I could upgrade to a 5er when needed and they have better resell after 100k miles.
My tip for white sands is heavy duty sunglasses. I was there last year in March and it was so bright. I am military so I was able to enter the white sand missile range base and check out some of their stuff. It was a great experience.
I know this is from a long time ago, but as someone that lives in Carlsbad, NM, you should have gone through Carlsbad and then up through the mountains to get to White Sands. It's a beautiful drive, and in Cloudcroft, NM, there's tons of hiking trails, snow sledding, ice skating, etc. It's just an amazing village, and White Sands is just a half an hour down the mountain.
Great tip on the BLM . We did a RV trip from California to Dallas (driving our eldest to college) a couple of years ago. We took our time, visiting the Grand Canyon, Carlsbad, etc. It was a trip our kids (all 5 of them) talk about it to this day.
That was fantastic! I most say my squad and I were responsible for some late openings at White Sands. I was a Nike Missile Electronic Maintenance SP5 .We always tried to get then off on time, but as you know things happen. We also shot them off at each other back El paso /White sands. That was in 1973-75
We did it just about once a week. We were support and training, there were 4 groups of us we each had units come in and train for two weeks. Then they got to shoot one off at a target in White Sands. The range went from ElPaso past White Sands. They have old bases in the Fl Keys that came once a year.
mark pearson , I was there around the same time 5th Bn 57th ADA. I thought the Nike system was all but gone at that time. I did watch a Nike-Hercules launch one time, very impressive!
Awsome video and good info on parking I'm also planning traveling with my travel trailer at Carlsbad cavern i just have one question for you what engine do you have in your f150?
So glad you took the Bat cave entrance. It is a HUGE place coming in on that side (original entrance), awe inspiring in and of itself. :) Good for you guys!
"2 weeks ago Your too kind. Thanks. Getting a bit better each time (I think). Loving Mexico. The Drone footage we got yesterday was epic. Can't wait to started editing Season 2, but still a few more episodes to close out Season 1" ........you guys are having TOO MUCH FUN IN MEXICO while your subscribers are WAITING FOR SEASON TWO IN MEXICO !!!!
That's probably true! :) Only 1 more episode of Season 1! I needed a head start to get some footage, but now I have so much footage I don't know how to sort through it all. I'll find a way.
So glad to know it's accessible. I've often wondered that as I watch your adventures. I use a wheelchair for any long excursions so this is invaluable information.
I actually was a 24T in 95 which is a patroit missile operator and I was there shooting missiles.. pretty cool. Loved this one. I was Army stationed at Ft. Bliss El paso TX
Caves are soo cool. Carlsbad is a good one. We just did a tour of Postojna Caves in Slovenia and had an amazing time. So incredible. Thanks for sharing your adventures. You were in some pretty country there. White Sands looks great.
Oh, thanks. There's a bunch of caves in Slovenia because of all the limestone. Postojna is one of the best developed systems with lots of cool history and even some ice stalagmites.
Wow I never been there but I been to the Great Sand Dunes here in CO. They are by Alamosa CO and next time you are here in CO you should stop by and see BUT after I see your video it looks like where you at is better!!! Again love the vids!!
Thankyouthankyouthankyou - For saying it is handicapped accessible! I am in a powered wheelchair and a lot of things in our National Forest/Parks are not open to us…..
You're welcome. I thought it was so cool that a park of this size was handicapped accessible. And it's worth going! In fact, even Zion has a paved path along the river that leads into the Narrows. You'll see it in the Zion video and there are clips of the path. And the valley floor of Yosemite is breathtaking. You can see Half Done, El Cap, Vernal Falls and more all from the car. But being able to go into the Caverns in a wheelchair was pretty cool.
Ok, we travel by Prius a few weeks each summer and occasionally at other times (Road Trip!), and we have been Carlsbad Caverns FOUR times now. The first time was in the 60s, it was still an Air Raid Shelter with food and cots hidden in the rocks. The last time we went was in the summer so I could see the bats. The bats are great fun. And if you do in the summer, Remember your jackets. It is the same temperature as when you went there in the winter. It doesn't change. I got a nifty Carlsbad Caverns sweatshirt out of that. Who knew it would be that cold? They sell lots of sweatshirts in the summer. :D
Wow, an air raid shelter! Amazing. Luckily, it was already freezing outside so we were warm inside (without the wind factor). Had we gone when it was warmer outside, I might have had to buy 5 nifty Carlsbad Cavern sweatshirts! :)
Those Caverns are amazing! The next time you're in upstate New York you should check out Howes Caverns. I don't think they're as big but there is a boat ride, which is awesome!
I just subscribed to your videos after watching 2. You guys are not only fun to watch but I really learn a lot from you ...travel tips as well as RV tips. We tow a baby 18 footer & go out only in the autumns for 3 or 4 months. I'm dying to know 1) what camera are you using for your videos & 2) what software do you use for editing? I would think your editing would take up a lot of time???? it's very well done IMHO. Next up...your TEXAS: San Antonio video.
Welcome to the channel Trish. I don't know too many Trish's... just one :) Thanks for the comment. We really enjoy making the videos and love the wonderful KYD community here. I use a GoPro Session 4 for most of the footage (because its easy) but I have a Canon Rebel T5i for when I need good focus. I use Adobe Premier Pro CC and yes, it takes a lot of time. We probably spend 25+ hours per week on the vlog and would like to spend more... but work & school :) Keep in touch.
👍 Super cool videography! 😃 Enjoyed watching this episode. Aaah the fun but oooh the sand for days & days after. I love most any place where there is sand...I went to the beach last year & I'm still finding sand in places & parts! 🤣
Lol. Yeah, no kidding. We were sweeping for a couple days, but it was worth the effort. When we stayed at Camp Gulf in Destin, we opted to not get a beach front. Between the dog and kids... that would have been too much. Just Trish and I could have handled a little bucket of water to dip our feet just outside the door :)
the sand is dissolved gypsum that has collected as runoff from the mountains and dried. there is no outlet in that valley for water to wash it all away so when gypsum gets wet it dissolves and runs downhill with the water then dries out and becomes white sands dunes.
Thank you for another great video guys. I had no idea this place exited... Looks so cool and it's not too far for me to drive up there. I have some catching up to do with your episodes as we have been so busy here with car show and the Phoenix Open... You know how it is :) BTW, all the out of towners are making fun of me for being cold when it's only 60 outside :) And speaking of drunk drivers, I had I think everyone leaving the Open last night was drunk... I am so glad this weekend is over. Be safe and have fun!!! Best, Sasha
Good to hear from you Sasha! Yes, I saw a pic on Instagram of the Phoenix Open and couldn't believe it was here already. We're out of touch in a good way. Thanks for the comment. Talk again soon.
Great video as usual. I always want to comment how great your videos are but after reading the comments while watching I don't believe there is anything I could add that hasn't already been mentioned.
Awesome video. Did you rent the sleds you were using for the dunes???? Beautiful family photo. My hubby and I wish we were your kids. Such an amazing life journey for you all. Cheers from snowy Canada!
White Sands is my favorite place on the planet!! My husbands cousin lives in Las Cruces, N.M. and when we visit, it is always on the sightseeing menu! It is really cool to look it up on Google Earth! White Sands can also be seen from space! They plow it like we so the snow here in the midwest. It's 257 sq miles of gypsum sand. Just a beautiful, awesome place!!
Hey, I’ve been enjoying your channel and am about to go from a no-timer to a full-timer. I’m curious to the size and weight of this trailer and how it towed with the F150. I’m considering a 31’ trailer (hitch to hitch) that is 7295 dry weight and has a max trailer weight of 9995. Do you think the newer F150s could pull this?
If you guys liked Carlsbad Caverns, you need to come to Tennessee. We have more caves than any other state. In Chattanooga, there's Ruby Falls, an underground waterfall that is spectacular to see and fun to get to. We also have Rock City, Up the road there's Cumberland Caverns where they hold Bluegrass concerts in the cave every Saturday.I know you guys have been to the south once already, but what are the chances you'll come back?
My husband and I were just in the Scottsdale/Sedona area a few months ago. I vlogged our trip and would love it if you took a look at them! I did a lot at the ruins. I'm not as skilled as you guys are yet, and I was only filming on my iPhone 6 then, but they're not half bad.
we have been watching keep your daydream and we love it gave us some very good points for us but i must ask have you guy,s thought about composting toilet for your rv i thank it might be something for you to look into
Yes, we looked into it. I think it would be great for a couple (and our estimations might be incorrect) but a family of 5... I think I would mulching every few days. Thoughts?
Thanks! Did you get my previous note replied to an old comment about the outside speakers? I'll paste here to: Okay... it only took me 5 months, but I figured out the outdoor speakers. Its controlled through the Fade setting. If you push the volume knob in it goest through Base, Treble, Fade, Balance. Adjust the Fade all the way to 100 and they should turn off outside. :)
I just watched your awesome video and we will be driving right past this place! My question is.. What did you do with your pup when you went to the Caverns? Granted you are traveling in the winter and we are traveling in the summer (JULY!). I want to visit all these neat places but I am worried about what to do with our animals. =/ Any advice? =D
Love your videos!!! We take a month long summer trip every year in our RV. Quick question: when you park Ginger in the streets to explore a new city, do you leave Maggie in the RV? If so, what about when it was really hot and humid? We travel with our dog also and I am always nervous about leaving him in the camper.
Great question. Yes, Maddie stays with "Ginger". We've been lucky to have 8 months of 70-80 degree weather! Feel back even typing that :) But Ginger is a 4 season trailer and when the blinds are closed, she stays very cool even on a hot day. If it's hot outside the car will be hotter, but the trailer will be cool. Particularly if we open a window on the shady side plus a roof vent. There was only one time we thought it was too hot... in Burlington, VM of all places. So we just took her with us. Oh, and in key destinations we had hook-ups and left the AC at 80 when we were gone.
Thanks for the reply. We pull a Rockwood Roo so it can get hot inside. Plus, we are teachers, so our travel time is limited to those HOT summer months. We have to leave the AC on for our dog Monte when we leave him. Can't wait to see this weeks video!
Don't tell me you stayed in Whites City near the Caverns. It was a nice place when I went there in '95 but heard it had gone downhill. And do the Caverns still print the guide with the largest flash photo ever taken, covering 53000 sq feet!
No, the only thing I did was replace the wheel bearings and buy an extra bearing kit and leaf spring. There are some items that need to be repaired (and I have some footage of the list), but I didn't do any of them. I am correcting some some manf. defects in Mexico with a body shop guy that comes to the park. Metal wheel wells and re-sealing the front cap that become separated on the right side.
You went to Carlsbad Caverns and only saw the Big Room? You missed the best parts. The Lower Cave tour is fantastic. The King's Palace is beautiful. Hall of the White Giant is fun and your kids would love it. There's plenty of climbing and crawling and squeezing through some tight passages. You should definitely go back and take some of the guided tours. They're all great!
We entered through the cave and walked over 2 miles and exited the big room. But most areas were so dark, there were only some areas that could be recorded.
Thanks Marius. Yes, it's actually worth the effort and planning too. The people you'll meet are great and the things to see and do are endless. And it's doesn't take a lot of money. Do you watch Nomadic Fanatic? He fulltimes it for a lot less money.
Enjoying the videos I've a question. I know electricity plays a big part of the role in Boondocking. And changing over to LED bulbs makes the world a difference. I need the 1141LL 2539 bulb. Have you found any inexpensive places to purchase these from that Are less than $15 apiece? Thank you. Ralph
You're right about the LED low consumption. Because our trailer is '16 all the lights were already LED so I can't help much. But I would check Amazon for the part number and prices.
Do you use your canon the most to film? I have the same one, use it mostly for pictures, few times I took videos with it they didn't come out very clear, must have to play around with the settings some more
I use the GoPro for most the vlog and the Canon when I need great color and shallow depth of field. If you video wasn't clear... your ISO was probably too high. Video is the same settings as the camera and when in doubt, record video in Auto. I tend to record in manual to select my own exposure and always use manual focus so I can move the focus to different objects, but that took time to learn.
It would seem so... but I use the GoPro Session 4 that has a built-in mic without a case. The reason GoPro historically has had bad audio is because of the clear waterproof case. The GoPro Session 4 was the first one without a case and quality mic. I believe the entire GoPro 5 series does not include cases anymore with good mics. Hope that helps!
One more point is that White Sands is NOT sand! It is gypsum, like drywall! I worked a lot at the missile range spraying the bombing circles! I miss those days!
You could catch the Colorado Sand dunes w/o the White Sands missile/nuclear ambience - Eat Kale and cilantro to clear the metals out of you lol. Hey but thanks passed that trip up and got to see it through you. Your family is great !
Yes. KYD should go to the Colorado sand dunes. Go in June to catch the water. Rig is probably to big for the campground but I hear Hooper is a great place to stay.
That one patrol car was CBP. I know cause i know. Cbp actually has agreement to stop or aide local LE there until locals get there. At times there is only 1 or 2 deputies on at night depending.
Could have gone to the space hall of fame, toy train depot, and up to cloud croft. Also oliver lee state park to camp. Lots more to do around there. Looks like yall had a good time.
To remove sand without water use baby powder (or some other type of powder). You don't need water and it removes the sand better than water! Great video!
We bought them at the visitor's center/gift shop at the park entry for $10. We could have sold them back for $3 or bought used ones. We bought wax too. They worked well. Not sure what would have worked better. I wish we would have gone a long hike or waited for sunset which I bet is amazing!
Watching all the bats come out and circle the entrance before going out to feed on insects was probably one of the coolest things I've ever seen. When they're all out the sky is almost all black due to all the bats.
Also, love that you include "parking" info for RV's at the various tourist sights. Always so important.
Thanks. We're planning on doing more RV Park reviews in Season 3 when we're back in the States headed up the West Coast.
best blog I have watched about RV trips you are showing us the real reason for traveling. love seeing all the wonderful places you are going to.
Thanks Linda! Appreciate your comment :)

Sorry you guys missed our beautiful town of Ruidoso and Lincoln County. Come back another time to teach the kids about the Lincoln County war in the 1870s. Your too kind. Thanks. Getting a bit better each time (I think). Loving Mexico. The Drone footage we got yesterday was epic. Can't wait to started editing Season 2, but still a few more episodes to close out Season 1.
Hurry up, I want to see Mexico!

Thank you!!
You're welcome. We will make it a point to point that during Season 3.
Awesome. In-law adventures. Sounds like fun! Thanks for letting us know.
Another awesome video. I am impressed with your video quality. My wife and I enjoy watching your family adventures every week. Congrats on 20.000 subscribers. Thanks guys.
Thanks! Yeah, we love the community here and sharing the adventure. Should cover more ground now and catch-up to Mexico quickly now.
Alan, did you see the previous San Antonio episode? I mentioned you :)
LOL. It didn't sink in at first, then my wife said, "hey, didn't he mean you?" And then I nearly fell out of my chair.
:)
I've been to Carlsbad when the bats fly out. You need to see that. AMAZING! Another great video. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome Video, looked super fun. Glad to be part of the notification squad ! Also, 20,000 subs !!!
Nice. Yes, I was thinking about ending a video showing people about the Bell Icon to get notification. We're excited to hit 20k. Thanks!
Thanks again!! Great video. I loved where (forgot name) said, "No water. How do I get this sand off!" Or something like that! Made me laugh.
Caleb. Yeah, he's full of... one liners :)
I took the Slaughter Canyon Tour. A lifetime experience. Well worth it
You've got skills and you keep getting better.
Thanks! Where will your summer adventure be?
Another great video guys. Been to both these places & they are incredible in their own ways. Have a great week & love to all.
Thanks Cathy. And thanks for the rec. to come here! Would not have even knew about either if you didn't mention it.
The bats were pretty cool btw. :-)
That was fantastic! I most say my squad and I were responsible for some late openings at White Sands. I was a Nike Missile Electronic Maintenance SP5 .We always tried to get then off on time, but as you know things happen. We also shot them off at each other back El paso /White sands. That was in 1973-75
Very cool. Thanks for the comment. Are missiles fired off everyday? Is it mostly testing? What were the outcomes?
We did it just about once a week. We were support and training, there were 4 groups of us we each had units come in and train for two weeks. Then they got to shoot one off at a target in White Sands. The range went from ElPaso past White Sands. They have old bases in the Fl Keys that came once a year.
Very cool.
mark pearson , I was there around the same time 5th Bn 57th ADA. I thought the Nike system was all but gone at that time. I did watch a Nike-Hercules launch one time, very impressive!
I like how you guys just squeeze all the fun out of a place that you can.
Go For It
Awsome video and good info on parking I'm also planning traveling with my travel trailer at Carlsbad cavern i just have one question for you what engine do you have in your f150?
You'll have a great time. I've got the 6.2L engine.
So glad you took the Bat cave entrance. It is a HUGE place coming in on that side (original entrance), awe inspiring in and of itself. :) Good for you guys!
Thanks! Def. worth the hike/walk. Wish we would have walked the entire big room, but we needed to get back on the road to cover more ground.
Your too kind. Thanks. Getting a bit better each time (I think). Loving Mexico. The Drone footage we got yesterday was epic.
We'll be sure to mention it as much as possible!
I actually was a 24T in 95 which is a patroit missile operator and I was there shooting missiles.. pretty cool. Loved this one. I was Army stationed at Ft. Bliss El paso TX
You're the second person to have worked there on the comments. Pretty cool!
Caves are soo cool. Carlsbad is a good one. We just did a tour of Postojna Caves in Slovenia and had an amazing time. So incredible. Thanks for sharing your adventures. You were in some pretty country there. White Sands looks great.
I just Googled Postonjna Caves. They look awesome. Still waiting for better wifi to check out your vids.
We’re traveling in your footsteps so to speak. This week Carlsbad Caverns and White Sands. Next summer Alaska!
That shot at 10:54 is epic. I hope you have that enlarged and framed somewhere. Such a great family photo.
My wife and I are taking our boys to Utah this summer from Houston. This will be one of our stops along the way. Thanks for the info.
You'll have a blast. Did you see our Utah vids - Powell, Bryce & Zion? We really liked the Zion River RV Park. Where are you planning on visiting?
Keep Your Daydream our friends live in St. George
Keep Your Daydream sent y'all some questions on instagram
You are welcome. And yes, sometimes it's good to be out of touch :)
Those dunes look like Pensacola beach sand! So pristine🥰
Wow, two places I've actually been. Carlsbad and White Sands. Sands was two years ago. It was about 100 degrees. Still amazing.
thank you for the information for the handicap.I am disabled and alot of places i cant go and see.
You're welcome. It's worth the trip if you're out west!
Great video as usual. I always want to comment how great your videos are but after reading the comments while watching I don't believe there is anything I could add that hasn't already been mentioned.
That's okay, we still see most of the comments and we love keeping up with people as they watch the vids.
Awesome video. Did you rent the sleds you were using for the dunes???? Beautiful family photo. My hubby and I wish we were your kids. Such an amazing life journey for you all. Cheers from snowy Canada!
Lol. Thanks. Yes, we bought the sleds at the park office for $10. I should have edited that clip in as it would be helpful.
Fantastic! Great video! Definitely makes me want to go there. Wellllll... the sand part and our Lab would probably have fun there too!
Oh yeah, your dogs would love it. Great time.
Love all your videos, wish I had time to camp as much as you guys!!!! You guys inspire us!!!
Thanks Nick. Yeah, going fulltime makes it easier and affordable. There is no way we could do this AND have a place at home.
dang i live in el paso lol had i found your channel sooner i could have met with you guys and had a cup of coffee with you guys.
Been binge watching you guys videos!! They all awesome and very informative!! Happy traveling!!
Thanks! Glad you found us!
Thanks Louis. Not anytime soon, but we'll def. get back there!
Great video! Carlsbad and White Sands are excellent places to visit.
Thanks. Yeah, worth the extra time to get there.
Been patiently waiting for this video. Going to be at both these spots in March. Can't wait Now!
Thanks James. I've been impatiently waiting for it to upload. 4 days this time. Err.
Keep Your Daydream - 26 degrees and snow flurries north of Toronto today...so Grr, back at you!
Great video, what weight distribution hitch were you using with the F150? I’m still trying to figure out how to use my husky setup
Camco EAZ, but it should be renamed Camco POS. Get an equalizer hitch for only a bit more.
Great video guys I enjoyed all of it I was wondering where you were looks like everyone is having a good time. safe travels my friends.
Thanks Rich!
Did y'all go through Hobbs NM, there's a beautiful rv park there it's only 45min from Carlsbad.
We were on a mission to get back to AZ by Dec 1. But that would have been good!
My husband and I were just in the Scottsdale/Sedona area a few months ago. I vlogged our trip and would love it if you took a look at them! I did a lot at the ruins. I'm not as skilled as you guys are yet, and I was only filming on my iPhone 6 then, but they're not half bad.
my father retired at HAFB - White sands is AWESOME and Carlsbad is freakin AWESOME!!
we have been watching keep your daydream and we love it gave us some very good points for us but i must ask have you guy,s thought about composting toilet for your rv i thank it might be something for you to look into
Yes, we looked into it. I think it would be great for a couple (and our estimations might be incorrect) but a family of 5... I think I would mulching every few days. Thoughts?
Haven't been to Carlsbad since I was about 8 years old... Can't wait to go back.
Great video missed you guys. You'd have to be one of my favourite RUclips channels by far
:) Thanks!
Wow these areas are just beautiful. I love the music your playing too.
While they do missile tests sometimes it's mostly cover for other classified stuff that goes on out there.
And...sorry I called her Maggie instead of Maddie. :(
Don't tell me you stayed in Whites City near the Caverns. It was a nice place when I went there in '95 but heard it had gone downhill. And do the Caverns still print the guide with the largest flash photo ever taken, covering 53000 sq feet!
Since the US trip ended, did you have any issues with your travel trailer that you needed to fix before Mexico besides the awning?
No, the only thing I did was replace the wheel bearings and buy an extra bearing kit and leaf spring. There are some items that need to be repaired (and I have some footage of the list), but I didn't do any of them. I am correcting some some manf. defects in Mexico with a body shop guy that comes to the park. Metal wheel wells and re-sealing the front cap that become separated on the right side.
Another awesome video! You should have 1M subs in no time. Keep up the awesome work and have a great day :)
I really like the way you think! That would be epic to make video full-time. Maybe someday if we're lucky :)
Holloman AFB and White Sands were where the opening to Transformers was filmed.
Sorry about the loss of Maddie, what you're doing is now officially #1 on my bucket list.
Love the video. Does Tricia have a link to the sunglasses she is wearing at the end of the video?
Do you use your canon the most to film? I have the same one, use it mostly for pictures, few times I took videos with it they didn't come out very clear, must have to play around with the settings some more
I use the GoPro for most the vlog and the Canon when I need great color and shallow depth of field. If you video wasn't clear... your ISO was probably too high. Video is the same settings as the camera and when in doubt, record video in Auto. I tend to record in manual to select my own exposure and always use manual focus so I can move the focus to different objects, but that took time to learn.
Keep Your Daydream I assume you put a mic on your gopro? if not the audio on those usually isn't that great
It would seem so... but I use the GoPro Session 4 that has a built-in mic without a case. The reason GoPro historically has had bad audio is because of the clear waterproof case. The GoPro Session 4 was the first one without a case and quality mic. I believe the entire GoPro 5 series does not include cases anymore with good mics. Hope that helps!
Keep Your Daydream It does help thanks! you should do a video on how you film everything and your equipment.
Where did you camp near Carlsbad caverns? We are going there for the first time in 2020.
Awesome episode. You guys rock! Keep on keepin on.
Thanks guys. Looking forward for the channel to get home and prepare for Season 2.
Revisiting earlier episodes. 👍🏻👍🏻
love you guys, thanks for all the great videos 🤗
Thanks for coming!
When I was a kid u could carry out a bowl of white sand from the dunes but they stopped letting people do that a while ago!
That white sand at the end looks amazing
That one patrol car was CBP. I know cause i know. Cbp actually has agreement to stop or aide local LE there until locals get there. At times there is only 1 or 2 deputies on at night depending.
Awesome video! No family overnight sailing trip to the Coronados on this epic adventure? I have a boat you can borrow.
Hey Jason. Good to hear from you. Trish and I were just talking about sailing after August. Let's keep in touch!
Great tip! We'll remember that!
Awesome White Sands group picture!
The red sleds, where did you get them and would you recommend anything else for the sand
We bought them at the visitor's center/gift shop at the park entry for $10. We could have sold them back for $3 or bought used ones. We bought wax too. They worked well. Not sure what would have worked better. I wish we would have gone a long hike or waited for sunset which I bet is amazing!
So you didn't sell them back, just for curiosity, what are you going to do with them.
