Having grown up reading comics in the 70s-80s, I never imagined that we would ever have this many comics-based movies and shows. That’s probably why I’m so forgiving of admittedly less than stellar movies and shows. I watched the old Incredible Hulk and Wonder Woman shows on network TV and the Superman movies as a kid, wishing we could just get more. Now we do. No complaints from me. 😂
Jack Kirby inhabited the best of both DC and Marvel. He was the bridge between both properties. His cameo in Superman: The Animated Series I remember as if it was yesterday where his likeness was captured for Dan Turpin voiced by the late Joseph Bologna. Then the funeral scene if you watch the unedited version that aired on TV you had some great creator cameos as well as the show runners attending the funeral of the fictional Jack Kirby/Dan Turpin and the last line by Superman standing front of his headstone saying the world didn't need a superman just a brave hero or something was so touching and beautiful.
Thanks for your endless passion Coy, especially in the last few weeks! I had one of the best movie experiences of my life with Deadpool&Wolverine. Seeing Channing as Gambit filled me with so much joy. As a Colin Farrell admirer, I can't wait for The Penguin. ❤
Hey Coy! Love the work you do....never grew up with comics but about 2 yrs ago I started collecting (Thanks to you). Im about to finish collecting the AoA story line and seeing AoA Wolverine in DP&W was such mhhhhh🥴🥴🥴🥴
I really appreciate your videos. I appreciate your passion for the industry and your recommendations. I’m REALLY digging James Tynion IV’s work. Nice House on the Lake was awesome, I read it in one sitting. Looking forward to Nice House by the Sea. SIKTC is incredible. However, I think Tynion’s magnum opus is Department of Truth. I love a good superhero comic, but I think comics shine with non superhero stuff (Brubaker’s Criminal, Rucka’s Lazarus, Walking Dead, etc.) Keep up the good work!
Not for me.. there are heated opinions about Marvel but seeing the old gang up there and a MCU FF crew together has me hyped. I am hyped about the new Supes too, but Marvel still had a great show
Loved Deadpool & Wolverine. I was so surprised to see AoA Wolverine and I never thought I'd see Wesley as Blade! As always, enjoyed your comic reviews and previews. Now go get some sleep!
Coy you fucking rock man! I have been following you every since you came on Collider Hero! Love your content. I have learned a lot. Even got into Marvel Comics.
Favorite cameo was blade but gambit a close second. Deadpool 2099 was cool and unexpected. Looking forward to Creature Commandos the most, first intro to gunn's dcu.
Every cameo in DP&W was amazing. My favorite is still Johnny Storm. Chris Evans as Johnny was one of my top 3 favorite superheros next to Jackmans Wolverines and Toby's Spider-Man so seeing him come back and be just as rude and disrespectful as he was in the OG FOX F4 movies made me so happy. I knew the moment I heard his voice that I was going to be a cap fake out and he wa saying to say Flame On! After that would be Channings Gambit. The Cajunness was on point and his action was dead on. 3rd favorite cameo was Laura, but unfortunately, that was ruined for me by trailers.
Always enjoy these comic news/reviews…still on the fence with RDJ as Doom. Hope they prove fans they can pull it off. Still enjoying Deadpool and Wolverine!
Michael Giacchino from Star Trek (2009) composing the score for Fantastic Four: First Steps sign me up. Also that tease of Galactus peering through the window OMG I am so buying it. I hope Ralph Ineson brings that Tony Jay type performance for Galactus in F4. He should not be a one note character. He has to be a prominent character throughout the MCU. His appearances throughout Fantastic Four: The Animated Series with the late Tony Jay voicing him was so good. Seeing so many of the Marvel heroes going up against him by trying to save from Ghost Rider to Thor voiced by John Rhys Davies just all time classic.
I would love if the SDCC turned more into how DC approached it with comics announcements and maybe some smaller TV or logo level announcements then save the bigger movie and cinematic universe type news to their own events.
Favorite D&W cameo was Johnny Storm Most excited about Creature Commandos. Want to grab those Anansi comics as I love the book and it’s fun to see them change to comic format. And I’m really excited about Fantastic Four. Retro-futuristic sounds like so much fun.
A few years ago, Mark Ellis said DC could be in a position where they could overtake Marvel. It doesn’t really matter to me which one is number #1 or #2, but as more of a DC fan, it’s so bizarre to see the energy has shifted where that might maybe actually happen. I’m most looking forward to the Penguin.
I read the news about SDCC and I'm most excited for everything DC related news. I just finished Batman The Caped Crusader today and I freaking loved it. Sure I had my nitpicks about certain things they changed but overall, loved it. You forgot to mention that in october we also have final season of Superman & Lois, and I hope they have a good ending despite firing most of the supporting cast. The Sacrificers is one of my new favorite indie comics.
Sorry for the long comment! Welcome back Coy~ My thoughts on comicon are… 1) Marvel - Starting to get excited for Red Hulk’s movie. Slightly optimistic for FF (although I don’t like the subtitle), and I’m not happy with Avengers Doomsday/Secret Wars news. My biggest issue is there’s no new blood. I’m in the minority in not liking the Russos work (even their Marvel stuff) and not liking McFeely’s writing. I know. I’m a heathen. It’s just with their announcement it really feels like Marvel is sweeping all the new stuff they added post-Endgame under the rug and I don’t like that look. Then there’s Doom. I’m not mad that they brought back RDJ or that he’s probably playing a variant Doom, because I’d assumed RDJ would be back in some form. I’m mad that the first introduction to Doom (whom fans have been drooling for Marvel to adapt correctly) is going to be a variant. Now if Doom isn’t a variant and RDJ really is canonically Doom… I feel like that’s a misstep. 2) DC - Honestly think they had the better panel. The logo is cool and I really hope each movie opens with the character’s classic art before transforming into the bullet logo. Creature Commandos looks fun. And the one thing I’m prioritizing my comic book media lately is how fun something is. Very excited for monsters to run me over with love. Actually, I just love how well DC’s animation side is doing. I don’t watch Harley but 5 seasons AND a spinoff about an obscure hero that got popular because of memes? Hell yeah. I also like how we have a futurist Superman show with mecha powers in their designs and now we have a period piece Batman show that’s inspired by the original designs. That’s freaking cool! Also, very interesting how Superman and Lois’ Doomsday reminds me a lot of BvS Doosmday. Excited for their Absolute line but still very confused on where it fits. Everyone is saying it’s an ultimate universe but I also thought it was crossing over or at least effecting the main universe. 3) Hellboy - This one I’m struggling with. Hellboy got me into comics. He is my first love. I want to like their promotion for the new movie but it hasn’t hooked me. It looks ugly. I’m hoping my pessimism is wrong. Oh, and everyone keeps talking about how Mignola has more control this time around, but wasn’t that the same news story they were promoting for the 2019 movie?
I have two cameos and they’re tied for favorites. Blade and Gambit. I was glad to see Chris Evans as Johnny Storm and I remember in an interview last year if given the chance he would return, i saw him and it got me emotional. Brought me back to being 13 years old again back in ‘05
The whole Downy Doom thing is clearly with the intention of us seeing Stark. That's what I'm guessing is going to be the point. If that's a good idea, I dunno. But yeah I think that the movie is going to have us and the characters in the movie see this Doom and see Iron Man.

I'm really looking forward to the Fantastic 4 movie since i'm instantly sold on the vibes. Comics wise I know we're gonna get more announcements down the line of books populating the Absolute Universe. As of now it's tied for me between do i wanna stick with Batman or try out Superman for once :O very excited for October!

What’s your thoughts on my take on Doctor Doom casting on your Doctor Doom Video? Your take is very interesting and I wouldn’t have thought of it in that perspective.
Jack Kesy as Black Tom Cassidy from Deadpool 2 was a nice memorable cameo of sorts and wish the character wasn't killed off. His introduction was the perfect way to setup the introduction of Banshee in the Deadpoolverse.

I wish that Kevin Feige hired Tom Cruise as dr doom. We could get the real dr doom this way. And while everyone wanted rdj back in a huge way he could have come back as the beyonder. Remember in the original secret wars the Beyonder took on Steve Rogers face? Well, in the MCU he could have taken iron man’s face.
You're starting to look more and more like DCs Green Arrow, specifically the animated series version with the suave-stache and the green suit works as an Irishman too
Woof...you just reminded me how much I dislike Spider-man in the Russo brothers' hands. Kind of a bid deal... But they are so good with so much! Glad they are back.
I personally think Comic-Cons should be more about comics and less about movies. So, in that regards DC revealing Absolute Comics Line, New Logo, and few other reveals were welcome for me. I hope they promote comics on Comi-Con and Movies on their own event like D23 for Marvel and DC Fandom for DC.
It would make infinitely less money Collectors edition was small, the strike even smaller. I love comics, but just as with movie theaters the blockbusters keep the doors open. And there’s plenty of regional comic cons for the comic specific stuff. I personally think the blend works
Don’t get me wrong, I love DC as well. Excited as fuck for James Gunn’s Superman, I’m up for Creature Commandos even if it feels kinda odd to start the DCU with what I see as the equivalent of What If, I’m digging Caped Crusader and I’m excited for The Penguin as well. But I kinda think that what Marvel did this year at SDCC is kinda unbeatable and one for the history books. The one two punch of Deadpool & Wolverine and the Russo Brothers and RDJ’s return as Doom (and you know who is coming back as well, we are just not saying his name) is literally insane levels of hype and excitement. All of that culminates with this absolutely insane Deadpool & Wolverine run and it’s kinda even unfair to compare Marvel with anything else at this point. Like others have pointed out before, a much better discussion to be had is Marvel COMICS vs. DC COMICS. I’m not particularly hyped for the Absolute books, but there is a clear initiative right there. It’s kinda driving me crazy that not even you mentioned what is in my mind the coolest comic announcement out of the big two during the SDCC: the TVA limited series by the Loki’s screenwriter Katharyn Blair with Pere Perez on art. The implications that this is at same time THE SAME TVA that we saw on Loki and that this is a series featuring Sylvie, B-15, Ouroboros, Mobius and at same time adding Captain Carter, Spider-Gwen and an alternate Gambit that screams Channing Tatum’s Gambit has me bursting with hype and hope that the series not only is successful, but that it follows the announcement of a TVA series. Can you imagine a TVA series that is The Office meets X-Files and True Detective featuring an Exiles-esque special Variants unit? That’s the announcement that got me in the comics side.
In simple terms, Marvel won in presentation and live action announcements, while DC announced better comic book news (of course they wanted to compete with the ultimate universe). Each one gained something important, but I'm excited for both of them.
Gotta be honest....Batman: Caped Crusader was kinda sorta whack af.....wayyy too woke, a female Penguin(did not work for me), an awful Barbara Gordon, a meh Batman....I had high hopes and I could barely get through the first two episodes....pretty let down truthfully...still holding out hope for DC...I Love Kite Man!!! HELL YEAH!

I like this new format for events like this, love everything DC put out at SDCC, also really liked the clip from the Superman & Lois panel!

If you weren't being truthful and were lying, what would your opinion be?
That you are in no way being snarky, especially for someone whom my initial comment was posted as a direct message towards. And lastly, I would wish you a great day!
You got me with that one lol
The mere fact that you had to compare DC to Marvel proves they didn’t. Marvel was everywhere last weekend.
