Yeah really. That's a funny way of saying "white people came here in the 1800s"

How do you know it was that many years ago?

Like as if they came to virgin lands, or like as if the Natives didn't war against other Natives for land; but when someone else does against them, it's the crime of the millenia; professional victimhood.
Sorry, I misread the comment! I was referring that native people lived here 12,000 years ago. I thought the comment said nobody was in the region until the 1800s. Actually from research people might have been living here up to 20,000 years ago? I think they got here from the ice bridge between Russia and Alaska or Mexico? But I could be wrong.

There is absolutely logging here, and there's a huge influx coming.
Maybe the logging industry is back but I lived there between 1978 and 2000 and I watched the town I lived in become a ghost town after International Paper closed. Roseburg didn't do much to help improve and grow the town. Well of course the Italians running the town didn't do much either. They tore up a bunch of outer areas for subdivisions that never materialized. I'm thinking the damage they did with Kellogg Ranch. A stop sign that goes no where...into the woods. Still I move away so my teenagers at the time would have a future because there was no future there for them. The high unemployment in the area only lead to drugs, drinking and abusive people. At least that was what my experience was. I wanted more for my children than that.
I appreciate you sharing this communal knowledge. I have seen mills closing devastate a few communities, such as Happy Camp. With timber production going back up, there may be opportunities for additional mills, but I don't see one happening in Mount Shasta. There is a new mill east of McCloud. Sounds like Kellog Ranch is the area by Pilot/business district of Weed? I've always wondered about that and it looks like the city owns it now (1996). It's honorable you made the sacrifice for your children to have a better life. A lot of the old mill Town families cling onto the past and refuse to move, which I empathize with. Mount Shasta is growing and many tell me, "the old guard is leaving". Quite a few businesses have opened up and new affordable housing too. I imagine it will continue to grow, and won't be the mill, it will be the community
I still think the area is some of the most beautiful in the country but other than that there is not much else. My parents owned some land two parcels over from the Kellogg Ranch. When we moved in the Pilot site was suppose to be a campground. Now all those lots up on the hillside get to have a nice view of that Pilot station with all its bright lights. I briefly moved back when my mother was ill and found the town was a ghost town and the people were as abusive as they were when I life. When my parents died a few years ago I had to sell the place dirt cheap. The state of CA wouldn't let me get fire insurance because I lived out of state. I would of moved back but there is absolutely nothing there for me.

no Weed is a almost a ghost town now. I lived there back in the 80's and 90's. I left in 2000's. No future for my teenagers there. Spotted Owl killed the lumber industry and the town went down hill after that.
They don't make Fire Chiefs like they used to.
Frank Melo was chief from the 1940’s through the 80’s. Even in his last years in a nursing home, elderly women had crushes on him. He passed away thirty years ago but the main fire station is named for him.

@@MR-backup that is a comment from a wingnut who thinks jet exhaust is spraying "chemtrails"... which do not exist. These are explanations (conspiracy theories) for people do not understand the scientific conditions which cause persistent contrails.
