Depends on the gender of the character whose parents are being met. Dad's are generally fairly protective of their daughters, but it's the mom's that are overly protective of the sons (both in anime and in real life due to each parent having a better grasp about what a child of the same gender is capable of and all that.)

Dad's are generally fairly protective of their daughters, but it's the mom's that are overly protective of the sons (both in anime and in real life due to each parent having a better grasp about what a child of the same gender is capable of and all that.)
