@@TheVHSStash Because many of these stations are affiliated with ABC and/or CBS also on the sub channels. One thing that you have to remember under a digital signal is you are allowed up to seven sub channels if there is only one high definition lead one EXAMPLE: 10-1 would be your NBC channel and there could be MeTv,Bounce etc on the sub channels up to six more. If there are two high definition channels for example 12-1 is NBC in HD and 12-2 is CBS in HD,12-3 is ABC in Standard Definition and you could have Antenna TV on 12-4 in Standard Definition. The moral of the story is a Digital signal allows for up to one main HD channel and six standard definition sub channels OR two HD main channels and two Standard Definition sub channels.
19:59 Wonder who else has footage from the early days of WTOV being an NBC affiliate, since them in the 80's was SO much different from the strong NBC affiliate they are now. They benefitted from being in a smaller market, WPXI not being as strong of an NBC affiliate, and WTRF (the CBS affiliate in the Wheeling/Steubenville market) beginning to falter from changing ownership and CBS not being as strong after the affiliate swap as they were before that happened. Though WTOV had a much different look with their news and logos at the time before they adopted the 9 that we all know. 22:07 Now THAT WPXI logo is a product of its time. That one went through some changes before the circle 11 logo they have used since. They two years earlier JUST changed calls. NBC was strict about making their affiliates have their logo whether the Peacock or the Trapezoid N next to the channel number right up till nowadays.
I've noticed that all of Gray Television owned stations have dropped the peacock from their branding. I wonder what's up with that?
