I just filed your sheet of inscription with this :
After trying many books and apps, I still think we have a world problem in creating a good and natural way to teach languages, especially Japanese. I am French, and I just quit my job as a French literature teacher in middle and high school, a bit like you, but I tried to stop before the burn-out. Anyway, even in France to teach young French people, teachers and programs are BAD! I like grammar, when it is simple and logical (because it is) but I hate when it is taught stupidly like a machine, where we have to learn things by heart. So, I hope you found a way to teach in a good way, if you think you can do it, I will be glad to learn with you ;)

Smart to stop before the burn-out happens, a very smart move as it can linger on for quite some time ^^"
I'm still working on a good way to teach, I'll be happy to have feedback and to create a better way for learning languages. I've learned both English and Japanese by myself, English personally wasn't too big of an issue due to it being very similar to Dutch, I can understand French and German because it is similar as well, but Japanese was a whole different fish to get a grip on ^^"
After one year of studying Japanese I've been trying to come up with a good game idea to learn Japanese (or any other language) but it's quite difficult, even when I was here in Japan for so many times before moving here, you can't just pick up the language that easily. I do have a game idea which I'd like to work on but time is something which I have a lack of, especially with baby number 2 coming next month :p

      Hello Voylin,
Congratulations for your future child ^^
A video game will be nice, but, yes, it needs a lot of good ideas. About that, I am not a developer, but I know my html and css a little, and I started briefly unity few years ago. I wrote quite a lot about a rogue like pixel art game to learn languages in a fantasy world. If you want to exchange about that one day, I will be glad to share these ideas to you if one day maybe it can be materialise in a game :)
I am an anthropologist and I like to study ways to teach what is unreachable, like a sensitive alternative medecine or a spiritual body practice. This is my field of expertise : how people get to live a sensitive experience that they can't even imagine before living it.
Anyway, beside making a hypothetical game that neither you or me have time to create xD, I will be glad to be taught by you one day, and to give you my feedbacks ;)
Have a good day! Nice to talk to you.

Sorry Voylin, this was my comment but with the account of another channel I am taking care of. I was connected to my phone with ethnopratiques, I do not want to create confusions xD (I do montage and videos for this company)

hahah don't worry, can happen :p I often reply or comment on the wrong account (having 3 RUclips channels and my personal one ... gets confusing sometimes XD)
As soon as the video editor I'm working on gets more to a finished state somewhere around the end of this year, I'll probably start some prototyping on the game, no idea how it'll go or if it will be any good, but I'll be sharing the progress here ^^

May I ask about your Level? Do you remember the content of all of your grammar videos? How many kanjis/words do you know?
I started at the beginning of corona and know abourt ~3000 words ~800 kanjis( but not all readings). For me word lists as a video helps to listen to while sport, driving, etc. Your grammar shorts videos are also very helpful to watch while doing something else.
When I "learn", I never force myself to memorize, just listen to, like a cassette in the car, and at some point you know every song and which song comes next. It also doesn't feel like work/school/learning. Just do anki instead of smartphone game. So I have no big problems with motivation.

Of course you can ask about my level :p
I would be lying if I were to say that I remember all the grammar rules from the top of my head, but when I hear them I do know what they mean, it's just when making my own sentences that I will often rely on the more common and well used grammar rules as using the more difficult ones is something I'm not that proficient with yet.
As for the amount of words and kanji's I know ... well I stopped keeping track of them for some years now. I used to be very into "let's study 50 more words today!" and "let's get 20 more kanji in my head!", but that ended up being something I started caring less about when living here and actually using the language daily. My priority has been being able to talk and to have conversations with people, if I were to put a number on it then I probably know all the Jouyou kanji by meaning (not readings) and as for words ... honestly quite a difficult one as many I would recognize and remember when hearing, but if I would have to say the word myself I would probably not come up with it directly ^^"
My smartphone screen time each day is less then 30 minutes, no games for me (life is too busy for those things) but studying is something I mainly do with my pc, by conversating with people, and by books. I've been trying to limit my screen time as I found that it distracts me too much from my tasks, life and learning.
Happy to hear that the shorts are helpful to you and that motivation isn't a big problem, 頑張ってください!\^o^/

@@VoylinSensei thank you for your answer. I see. Can you watch anime&dramas, etc and understand it like in english, which is probably not your native language as a Belgian, I guess. I am currently at the level trying to unterstand native content. News are a good source. I recently watched the movie in cinema "the concierge" and stopped reading subtiles. Mostly time is limited for studying with private life, sport and work.

I can watch anime and drama as well and not struggle doing so. My understanding of Japanese is coming along rather nicely as I don't translate to English anymore in my head, I hear the words and know their meaning without any conversion in my head. My mother tongue is Dutch, but I very easily switch my thinking to Dutch, English and Japanese without any issue. Time is limited but don't rush in learning and enjoy the moment ;)
