  • The world's most famous bachelor, George Clooney, broke a vow to remain single on Saturday and married human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin during a weekend of lavish celebrations in Venice
Hollywood's most-eligible bachelor George Clooney and human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin were married Saturday in a private ceremony in Venice, Italy.
Clooney led a parade of boats across the Venice lagoon and down the Grand Canal as he headed to his wedding festivities at the Aman Hotel.
Dozens of water taxis with paparazzi, journalists and camera crews buzzed around his water taxi as he slowly moved across the lagoon. Unexpectedly a giant cruise ship and then a ferry boat blocked the way.
Clooney standing at the front of his taxi remained calm waving at the photographers and the bustled around his boat crossing in front and around making the lagoon a wavy.
Hundreds of people lined the Accademia Bridge to catch a glimpse of the Hollywood star yelling "George George" -- he waved to them and they cheered in glee.
Finally arriving at the Aman Hotel, George climbed out of the water taxi, waved to the crowd, rubbed his hands together as though excited to start the evening and disappeared inside.
A procession of a dozen that brought guests including Cindy Crawford, her husband Randy Gerber, Bill Murray, Matt Damon and Bono from the five-star Cipriani hotel opposite St. Mark's Square up the Grand Canal to the luxury Aman Hotel. Crawford wore a purple floor-length halter dress; the men were all dressed in tuxedos.
There were no signs of his bride, human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin, who was last seen publicly on Friday riding a water-taxi down the Grand Canal with Clooney's arm resting comfortably around her. The bride, wearing a bold black-and-white striped Dolce & Gabbana dress, beamed.
Clooney, 53, had long vowed he would never marry again following his 1989-93 marriage to Talia Balsam. He dated a series of models and actresses that made his love life tabloid fodder, until meeting his match in Alamuddin, 36.
Venice is perhaps a natural setting for Clooney's wedding. The star owns a villa on Lake Como north of Milan, feels at home in Italy and is a frequent visitor to Venice, often to promote his films at the Venice Film Festival.
