In the Spring of 2024, just one year after the official merger of Canadian Pacific & Kansas City Southern, the new CPKC ran their recently restored CP 2816 steam locomotive on the "Final Spike Tour", a trek from Calgary to Mexico City. A large portion of the trip consisted of the steamer running between Chicago and KC. In this video, you'll see the locomotive at multiple locations along the CPKC mainline between Chicago, IL, and Davenport, IA.
Known as "The Empress", the 2816 is a 4-6-4 Hudson-type and was built in 1930 by the Montreal Locomotive Works. Also along for the ride are F-Units CP 1401 and CP 4107.
We chased from Elgin, IL to Bettendorf, IA for Part One. Part Two of the chase will be released in the very near future, and will focus on the trek between Davenport and KC.
