one thing about WW's shield: it trickles up to a max, and if the shield is damaged below said max, it will CONTINUE to trickle up to the limit giving you much greater survivability if you really cant get away from a diving enemy, like olaf or nocturne ultimates. i like to QE behind me and then WW in the middle of it while walking away from the enemy :^)

WW can be very good in certain match-ups that get really annoying, like brand, or whenever an assassin decides to combo you It doesn't come in handy too often but it'll save you multiple times a game
Great video! I'm enjoying playing Hwei so much that I seriously think of making him my main or at least plan B. I play for fun, and I'm not really into banning champs because I agree that the worst matchups are the ones that teach you the most. Got destroyed by a Katarina, which means I need to learn to adapt to a Katarina. I still need to look down at my skills cause I can't react quickly enough, so I've messed up trying to EQ an assasin, when I'm pretty sure an EW on me would've worked as they were already on top of me. Much to learn still, and this was a great video for that. Best of luck
I *strongly recommend practicing Hwei, especially since he is meta right now before going into ranked, he has one of the biggest kits in the game so mastering him is key to climbing.
could you post gameplay videos where you've had to face those hard matchups? I struggle vs. a lot of the champions you mentioned, and would like to see how to salvage the lanes and figure out angles on how to win those games. thanks for the guide!
Very true! He feels like a slow burn champ which catches a lot of people off guard mid to late game. Lane swapping pays off super well a lot of the time since you can effectively one shot the enemy adc when they underestimate your damage.
One advice as someone who also plays Hwei around Diamond Elo: You said in your video that Naafiri is hard to play against but actually he is rly easy to play against. Every single time he dashes onto you, you can just EQ / E1 at him. The little dog minions disappear for that dash and you can hit him straight. After I used that, i never once lost my laning phase against a Naafiri. Hope this helps someone! :)
True! I find in the case of the player actually being decent at nafiri they will usually try to line their dash up behind minions making it harder to land EQ but even so it's still relatively easy to land. I feel her mid to late game scaling makes her a big menace since she has insane mobility and roaming potential meaning that so long as she can get on top of you she can nearly one shot. Otherwise laning phase isn't too bad but in the long term she poses a lot of problems for hwei and she makes it hard to peel for teammates especially.
@@Im_TheNoodle I actually like playing against naafiri. Even in mid to late game. It is true that naafiri can nearly one shot you but I believe it is more likely a skill difference. Of course you could say she can ambush you but your EW / E2 generates vision. You can always use QE / Q3 so you kind of force the enemy to move. If you have comet, aery or presence of mind you get the signal if you hit someone. So there are quite some ways not to get completely destroyed just bc you didn't have vision somewhere. On top of that you can also one shot naafiri: you can ambush naafiri out of vision and give a full combo. That rly hurts. But I think hwei is a champ that gives high reward for high risks. If someone doesn't know how to utilize hweis kit, it probably won't end well especially against Champs that dash a lot
i mean i ban yasuo when i play hwei, with the same reason as you said, his W. Also i love playing against zed cuz you can just EQ him after he ulted you. I try to stay under tower, bait the ability from him, press EQ then R and then i optionally use ghost
Yeah his ult is definitely one thing you can predict for the most part. I think sadly he simply out scales you and snowballs so easy and you can only hope and pray he won't roam on your teammates. But the yasuo lane definitely sucks too, I find it to be easier personally but a good yasuo is far from a good time.
This is a cool video, fwiw legend haste is a good option on hewi too (you would have to drop the coup de grace tho) esp when combined with 8 ability haste over 1 of the adaptives it makes a very noticeable difference in uptime of skills
im new to league ive put maybe 25-40hrs into it i think but ive always found the FF mentality super weird like why play the boring part of the match to just FF when you get to the power spike phase just cause the score is llike 3-7 or something, the mentall of some people in the game is really confusing to me i think
its so tough when you want to one trick but also love other champs gameplay :c. I love hwei gameplay, but I am just naturally better with orianna and that makes her my 1st choice. Although, it's tough to say if she's worth climbing with this season or not compared to hwei.
This has been one of the best learning videos I've seen out there right now and I don't even play Hwei. Please make one video like this for Lux and Morgana mid!
Blackfire torch came out after I made the video so I didn't get to throw it in there. Based on the patch right after it was put out it seems like it was really strong on hwei and I imagine it probably still is. I wouldn't recommend it as a first time due to lack of sustain in early game but if you're maybe against a tankier laner it might be a good early item.
In low elo (below diamond) do not surrender because usually the enemy knows no macro so they can’t snowball the game, the games last so long that even if you’re behind early it does not matter because you can scale to the point that you can beat the fed enemy zed
Great question. Ludens is the ideal rush now since his other strong items have seen some nerfs, and I still rush tear regardless. Shadowflame is still a really strong second or third item as well.
I've actually been very curious about trying phase rush in matches against clingy melee champs like yasuo, sylas, and ekko since the gameplay is to usually e1 and run maybe it would have its benefits for early game
I find ludens to be underwhelming overall and most other items will usually be a better choice. Mana tear helps mitigate the mana issues allowing you to go for more damage heavy items instead of something like ludens. I've also tried cryptobloom a few times and fun as it may be it's just too inconsistent. Again you're sacrificing stats for a small amount of utility that may or may not come in clutch and then you're also locked out of having a significantly better magic pen item.
I actually haven't had much time to play so I haven't tried it yet. Based on the last patch notes it seems like it was really strong on him especially when paired with liandry's. Since it got nerfed I'd probably stick to the usual build that's just speculation so try out a few times and see what you think.
True it would be nice but making his shield strong would probably lean too hard into his defensive and controlling play style. Players having a hard time finding a way to all in him would only be shut out further by his shield. I think it works well as a clutch tool and anything beyond that would be problematic I feel.
I dont knoe if u know noway but he said, when u are taking mana tear as start item its Full troll he said maybe sometimes u can buy it but only with anivia. Thy for the Video nice to know all this things
Yes! New guides are in the works, I've been a bit slow getting to it but I'm making individual videos to cover each part of this guide in more depth and items and runes will be their own video.
@@Im_TheNoodle Nice! ive been confused about the itemization since i just recently started to play mid and picked up Hwei as my main. this champ tought me that i have not a single clue about itemization other than: Oh monkey see ad enemy monkey buy armor. or: monkey see tanks monkey buy liandrys. also, are you playing legend: haste now instead of Coup de grace? i've found coup de grace doing not realy anything other than copium since his QW is overkill already in most situations. so legend haste is just so much better and also opens the doors to a ultra spam ability haste build with hwei, tho you need to go double mana item or you will be squeezed out of mana in like 2 min xd
I'll definitely make note of that. I haven't been playing much but I'm going to get back to ranked this split so I can more effectively make the item and rune guide. For now I'm working on a different guide and will probably be playing behind the scenes so I can get my knowledge refreshed in the current meta.
That's a good question. I used to make a point to build it in some games but got to a point where the pros of other items often outweighed it. My issue with items like this is that while they have a pretty strong effect it has a limited cool down and use time as well as criteria to make it work. I find it better to have items that benefit you all the time regardless of circumstance so you don't end up wasting a strong item passive on accident before roaming for a fight for example. It definitely can be a strong item and shouldn't be totally off limits by any means, I just find that other items are usually more consistent and provide benefits that allow hwei to deal good damage regardless of circumstance.
@@Im_TheNoodle Very good answer. I'm going to include Shadowflame in my builds and Sorcerer (I always do the CD ones) and test the results. I will probably make Horizon Focus my third or fourth item. I really liked the guide because it is very difficult for me to find educational information. Thank you so much! :)
hey there, just discovered your video because i find huawei interesting. Im currently maining Ahri but im looking to learn one or two more champs to be flexible. Would you recommend learning Huawei despite him not having google play? i feel like with all of his abilities he can be really good for every game.
That's part of the reason I love him is his flexibility. He kind of functions as a jack of all trades but in return he doesn't exactly excel at any one thing. His ability to function like a control mage while having the benefits of early access to hard cc and other high utility options makes him a relatively strong pick but in exchange you really have to learn your matchups and know his ins and outs really well in order to find success. I can't say he would make a great pocket pick due to his learning curves and in most cases there are other safer alternatives but if you're interested in picking him up as maybe a secondary pick to your main I'd say go for it. He's nothing if not fun!
@@Im_TheNoodle Tysm for replying. I need an S on Hwei for M7 but even with good KDA/Vision, I get outshined by kill steals and it's so frustrating. Your guide made me play Hwei more confidently esp. against my personal tough matchups like Ahri and Yasuo.
@@anyrak hey I'm super glad it helped. It's actually really hard to get an s on hwei consistently since he kind of has a hard time racking up kills. Your best bet is having really good cs and as few deaths as possible.
@@Im_TheNoodle But if my teammates set high benchmark for S rank then it's harder... I want to participate in damage+kills. Any advice? I'm struggling with Varus too, the same issue. I got 10/3/13 while my Top and JG got 14/5/17 and I only got an A+. I'm a Hwei main who migrated to bot to improve my cs-ing and map awareness+gank survivability but now I'm just a stressed out Hwei AND Varus main.
Love that last part, haha! I was an ADC main until this season when I realized the role was fundamentally ruined. I actually feel like farming as an ADC is harder than ever with how hectic bot lane can be and unfortunately I don't personally feel like that kind of difficulty would help your CS improve overall. I believe that you should practice exactly what you want to be better at in the sense that not only do Varus and Hwei function on an entirely different level but they play different roles with different circumstances. Granted I do believe there are aspects of playing ADC that can help improve your overall gameplay but I would take the time to play Hwei and focus on one mechanic specifically each game. CS has an enormous impact on your letter grade and if you're not in the top three highest CS in the game then it's probably going to drop your grade quite a bit. Other than "generic" CS practice I would take some normal games to limit test yourself on Hwei and try to maximize your damage output and kill participation if you feel like that's where you're struggling. It's especially hard on Hwei cause he has really bizarre power spikes throughout the game where his early levels can be really weak while around first item he get's a huge advantage and it's that time until late game that you really have to get as many kills as possible. Once late game rolls around you'll find yourself doing a lot more zoning and artillery in order to help your team but actually last hitting champions is really hard. If you wanna maximize your early and mid game kill potential make sure shadowflame is your first or second item as it boosts your execute potential a ton. Sorry for the essay but I hope some of it helps. If you want to discuss more join my discord in my youtube bio.
Same rush down style as most assassins. Hold your important cc for hard engages and focus on wave control. Main goal is to shut her out of diving you and punish her for roaming as much as possible. Poking her out of lane is going to be your best bet early but around level 6 she really becomes a threat.
Glad you like it! Honestly talon is surprisingly uncommon, I think I've only played maybe one or two games against him mid lane. Your best bet is to hard shove him early and poke as much as possible to prevent him from roaming and once he hits 6 you need to be extremely careful about all ins. During laning hold your e1 for when he dashes on you with q since he will be trapped in an animation and is almost guaranteed to land. At 6 he is probably going to lead his all in by ulting making it hard to land cc so hold your e until he becomes visible and lay down your q3 to prevent him from getting on top of you too fast. All in all he plays similar to the nafiri matchup but may be even more favorable for you, just be cautious of roaming and punish him by getting plating.
Thank you so much for the advice!! This may just be personal preference, but I had the hardest time vsing Talon but these tips will help a lot so thank you! ❤️
He has to be pretty OP if his worst matchups are the worst class of the game - assassins, which are unllayable if you're at least somewhat competent, and champs like Orianna and Azir, jack of all trades, the OGs form midlane are easy. Ban Ahri and gg freelo then
THIS!!! The mentality of “gg” or “ff at 15” is sooooo fucking immature. it will be 5mins in and people will just give up. like they actually think it’s completely over. its so toxic and exhausting hearing that every match in lower ranks. and its always these people who want to “rank up” but like imagine giving up that quick? doesnt make sense, u wont climb with that mindset lol
Ikr u gonna swear they behind vs faker or something its low elo bud they will throw at some point...😂😂😂😂 I mean if u 0/3 vs faker ff sure but not in a plat/emerald game where mistakes are made ever 3 mins...
automatically lost me at no surrendering. challenger has the highest ff % you should know when to fold em ff at 20 or lose at 50 you cangain more lp from just going next

8:39 Bit of an awkward error there
Good catch haha. I didn't even notice I'm surprised you were the first.
I build hwei for his qe and I get double burn then rylai to make lay control mage
What about Akali matchup?
Same rush down style as most assassins. Hold your important cc for hard engages and focus on wave control. Main goal is to shut her out of diving you and punish her for roaming as much as possible. Poking her out of lane is going to be your best bet early but around level 6 she really becomes a threat.
What are your thoughts about the Talon matchup? Any tips or tricks you recommend, btw love the content keep it up :D
@@Artezzaa_ good luck in your games!
Hwei has a decent auto attack too, if he misses W, kite kite kite
E3 in to Q2 ❤
I use E3 with Q2
He has to be pretty OP if his worst matchups are the worst class of the game - assassins, which are unllayable if you're at least somewhat competent, and champs like Orianna and Azir, jack of all trades, the OGs form midlane are easy. Ban Ahri and gg freelo then

Hope it helped! 😬
FF is a guaranteed loss! I'm all for pushing the FF timer back to 20 minutes too, it's crazy being able to surrender at 15.
Ikr u gonna swear they behind vs faker or something its low elo bud they will throw at some point...😂😂😂😂 I mean if u 0/3 vs faker ff sure but not in a plat/emerald game where mistakes are made ever 3 mins...
if found LeBlanc to be unplayable against as hwei

I hate when people surrender it's cringe
thinking you should play with a troll rather than dodging is peak clownery
