I just recently got a 2012 sonic LT with a 5 speed. My first car I bought from a dealership by myself. Never really intended of getting it until I saw it had the stick. It's been showing me that it was worth getting. I honestly might get the RS version soon
Josh Stafford It's a great car. Grandma has a white 2013 Sonic LT hatch that we bought BRAND NEW. It's a great car. I wish we could of went with the 1.4T with the same options that hers has...not that the 1.8L and the 1.4T really have a difference, I just want the turbo badge.
Had one of these for an Uber the other day (though it was badged as a Holden Barina as I live in New Zealand). Surprisingly comfortable and even with 5 people in it it was still not too badly cramped.
If it was a hatchback, it'd be perfect. I've driven the Sonic turbo hatchback and its a lot faster than most people would think. Rides like a dream too.
Why is everyone hating on the Sonic so much? Its much better than the Aveo it replaces and is better than the competition. Try them all out, the Sonic is the best of them all. Good video as usual Kyle.
I just bought a 2017 LT Sedan in "Red Hot" I absolutely love the Sonic, I test drove a Ford Fiesta hatchback first, and found it rode harsh and the powertrain wasn't as smooth, when I got back from that test drive they had a program Sonic sitting up at the front waiting, it was just overall a higher level of build quality and refinement, if I dare to use those words in this price point. I don't care for the timing belt though, from what it looks like when I hit 100K I see a $1,500 service bill coming. I've been getting between 30-33 MPG in mixed driving with the 1.8L and an automatic transmission, after reading up on the timing belt replacement I didn't want a turbo as around 100K when that goes kaput it's another $1,000 to replace, so I'll lose the 23 foot pounds of torque, I'm not a speed demon by any means. Overall, if you're shopping in this segment the redesigned 2017 models are really nice little cars, plenty of room, smooth ride (For the size.) decent MPG, and from the oil changes I've done it appears easy to service as well. A fantastic car for a first time new-car buyer, or someone looking for practical transportation without going into a national debt.
Have owned the Aveo LS for seven years and am now looking to upgrade to the Sonic LS. Love the feel of this Chevy and interior. ..the Sonic gives more knee room under the steering wheel now that I'm looking for.
Thanks SaabKyle04 for this full in depth reveiw of this car. I was looking at one just like this and your reveiw answered a lot of questions that I had. I bought a 2013 Summit White 1LT sadan.
12:00 Russian Specification aveos actually got a little storage box in between the center stack vents and the clock, and its a pretty well known mod to order that Storage Box from Russia, and install it on a US Spec Aveo.
I have a sonic...... and love it..... The key unlocks the steering wheel/ transmission. So here in Arizona. I remote the car on to cool the car down with the A/C.... The key must be used to drive it. I guess if you lived in cold weather it could warm up your car. Its really a nice .... even when you go into a corner market.... car is on and locked tranny and all.
@1waffleiron I'm glad someone can see through all the hard plastic and the MPG with the auto. If any of them were true auto enthusiasts, they would have noticed that the Sonic has been complimented time and time again about how fun it is to drive. Everything else on the market is just an econobox. Where GM spent money on better performance, everyone else spent it on soft dashes and doors.
That voice command system is a lot friendlier than the one in my Focus. This is also like the third time I've heard that Sugar Ray song in the past two days LOL
Thanks for doing a video of this car Kyle. I saw one about a month ago on the road and it looked like a nice car. I do have one question though: Didn't the Aveo replace the Prizm? I was just curious because my grandma gave me her 99 Prizm when she stopped driving in August of 2008. It is a great little car, and since it was built in the same factory and is almost identical to the 1997-2001 Corolla I always wondered why they stopped production on the Prizm.
This is the only car of its size to have elbow and head room and I liked that the gear command works, meaning if I tell it to go into 6th at 35mph, it will and it has the torque to pull it straight up hill in the same gear if I choose too. Great mpg, easily got 37mpg in the city with 4 people in the car, struggled to get the same on the highway with the hyundai accent.
me parece un muy buen carro ....acabo de adquirir uno y las explicaciones que me dieron en la concesionaria fueron buenas lo malo que aqui en peru no he visto que lo traen con control de audio en el timon ...alguein puede explicarme porque ????? gracias
@ilikefastcars65 That's because it basically is the Aveo. They just changed the name for the 2nd generation in North America. Similar to what Chrysler did with the Sebring and what Land Rover did with the Discovery. It's still the Aveo everywhere else in the world.
Also, you cannot however get the Wheel and Fog Lamp Package with the 1.4L Turbo engine. You must upgrade to the LTZ at that point. The LT with the Wheel and Fog Lamp Package is very sharp and is loaded with a lot of options as long as you don't care about leather seating and the 1.4L Turbo. With the auto your not getting a huge MPG advantage with the Turbo. I would be willing to bet the 1.8L would be more reliable and run far less hot which in turn would be much easier on the internal fluids.
Love this new model. Would love a sedan with the 1.4 liter Turbo with the 6-speed manual. I bet they move along pretty well considering the weight to power ratio.
Correction on the Fog Lamps: A Wheel and Fog Lamp Package is available on LT models which includes a bump to 16" wheels. Also for 2013 Chevy MyLink Radio is available for roughly $200 (stupid not to get that). Source: My dad has sold Chevys for over 30 years and I delivery fleet vehicles for him.
Well that's on you. Car and Driver placed the Sonic above the Nissan Versa, Hyundai Accent, Kia Rio5, and Toyota Yaris, all of which have been recently updated. It's also garnered praise against the Ford Fiesta. This is a quality GM compact, times have changed.
@Mds9608 forget the impala , chevy already came out with the "caprice 9c1 police package" it will come out as a civilan model later ,but its a big ass V8 RWD with a nice pair of testies on it , i already test drove them ,based on GM HOLDEN platform, with a big o'l USBUILT V8 BLOCK
in the LT modell here in austria you don't get the chrome door handles or the automatic lights (only in LTZ). Some of the LT models have fog lights (like ours) but not all. Same goes for the arm rest. But i never saw the knee airbags.

Sonic drives a Sonic, and eats at Sonic every Saturday.
Haha, lol!
about how many miles should u get an oil change for this car?
DankFrogz while he listens semisonic.
SonicSonicSonicSaturday 😂
I like the wood trim in the Aveo and I know the Sonic has more powerful engine but the little red car isn’t bad.
This is gonna be my first car
Same here next week
Señordarkness666 I’m thinking about getting this for my first car too.
same, exactly like the one on the video
SirDankShot same bruh save up for this car 😔
Seriously considering getting one, update?
I just bought a 2013 Sonic LT a few days ago and love it.
Just picked up a red 2014 sonic lt with mylink system and back up cam. It's the first car I've ever bought myself and I think I made the right choice!
Maybe, then again,Maybe not

Ayannah ♥ 4
Ayannah ♥ buy one on eBay lol
i hope you sold it
Just bought my 2012 Chevy Sonic today 🥰
Had one of these for an Uber the other day (though it was badged as a Holden Barina as I live in New Zealand). Surprisingly comfortable and even with 5 people in it it was still not too badly cramped.
My 2012 Sonic has A super set of speakers!! thats all that matters to me . OH the 42 miles per gal is nice!
+michael koncal How many miles do you have on yours?
michael koncal zdz
Is not tru
@@manuelfernandez862 it's still pretty good for today's standards and the bass is really nice!
kyle you're such a badass car reviewer

Very nice, iv had my eye on the hatchback Sonic for a little while now, and im really thinking about getting one myself.
I still like the Sonic as much as I did when I saw it online(:
The gauge cluster looks like something off a motorcycle. Pretty neat. I like the side-by-side comparison to the Aveo!
picking up mine on friday very popular car in my area great on gas lots of open road looks great dont care what people say love the dig speedometer
If Sega had a car, this would be it!

It's seems like a very good car. I like it.

I brought a 2014 two years ago and I am love it a good little car
Thanks SaabKyle04 for this full in depth reveiw of this car. I was looking at one just like this and your reveiw answered a lot of questions that I had. I bought a 2013 Summit White 1LT sadan.
Love it. It's pretty fast for a non turbo 1.8 and I'm getting 32/41. The best part is looking the Liquid crystal display.
***** That's nice
Actually now that you say it, it does look like one!! Maybe that's why I'm so fascinated by sonics!
Looks a lot better than the Aveo, and doesn't have any silly wood trim. Great vid as always Kyle!
Very good video, showing the 2 cars was a great idea. excellent
Got to sat down in one of those in August. Where I live we have the Woodward Dream Cruise and they put this on display. It's pretty sporty.
thank you for this in depth review i am looking at a used on at my local dealership and this video anwsered alot of my questions
That front looks agressive...which I like.
Good review Kyle, throwing in the Aveo was a nice touch ^^
I think the Sonic is just so darned cute, how could you look at that face and not smile?
12:00 Russian Specification aveos actually got a little storage box in between the center stack vents and the clock, and its a pretty well known mod to order that Storage Box from Russia, and install it on a US Spec Aveo.
The Sonic is a cute and almost cheerful little thing.
My dad just bought a silver 2014 sonic hatchback back in march its been a great car so far and since then we put 7,500 miles on it
The Aveo was a rebadged Daewoo of Korea and the Sonic is engineered and manufactured in Detroit.
thats the good thing about chevy...they one of the only companies left that use a normal start mechanism
@1waffleiron I'm glad someone can see through all the hard plastic and the MPG with the auto. cannot wait for the sonic rs. i think i'll buy one
Have this car...it really is a fun car to drive (:
Just like Sonic the Hedgehog and car
the rear is awesome! it has loads of space. although, i do believe they should've used the rear for more seat room instead of the back space.
I meant for the class. I usually hate sub compacts, but this car actually manages to pull it off.
Key Kyle, can you tour that Chevy Express van in the background?
Good job chevy, this thing looks competitive.
Are the 1.4L turbos out with manual transmissions?
Nice video btw!
Sweet looking ride. Maybe after my Cobalt is paid off I can go for this. Btw has Chevrolet discontinued their SS edition cars?
Very. Good. Video show 2.cars. Execellent job
Thanks for doing a video of this car Kyle. I saw one about a month ago on the road and it looked like a nice car. I do have one question though: Didn't the Aveo replace the Prizm? You make great reveiws
Since this is going to replace the Aveo is it going to be built here in he United States, or in South Korea in the old Daewoo plant?

10:05 Did anyone pick up on the Full House stuff that was playing through the radio? I certainly did!
Are you gonna do the hatchback version too?
@ilikefastcars65 That's because it basically is the Aveo. They just changed the name for the 2nd generation in North America. Similar to what Chrysler did with the Sebring and what Land Rover did with the Discovery. It's still the Aveo everywhere else in the world.
So glad I didnt wait for this.
any chance of a video on the 2012 VW Beetle???
That speedometer is nice though
There is for sale in USA the Chevrolet Spark ?
5 bolts wheels?
Curiously, the Sonic in Latin America had 4-bolt wheels.
Thank you for this video!
This is a great looking car.
Interesting fact Kyle pointed out about the headlight covers.
@47fav A1 isn't sold in the US.
I actually have to give Chevy some credit for putting forth some effort into their compact segment. I guess haters gonna hate.
Any chance we can get a video of a 2012 impala? :)
The all new Sonic...coming soon to a rental fleet near you
@saabkyle04 they are both GM DAEWOO (Tbody) clones ,also the chevy spark is on the GM daewoo "MATIZ"platform
Kyle, doesn't the Aveo have a 1.6 liter?
I think the sonic will compete well with the Ford Siesta, can't wait to see a sonic hatchback review
Just bought mine today, 2lt sedan
The gauges in the Sonic look a little sparce to me, compared to the Aveo and the Mitsubishi Eclipse.

How do you come across all these cars.......
What was that little slot below the radio in the Sonic?
I like the sonic 2012, but how do you clean the seats. it seems easy for pieces of food to get embedded into the seat fabric.
Love this new model. Would love a sedan with the 1.4 liter Turbo with the 6-speed manual. I bet they move along pretty well considering the weight to power ratio.
GrandPrixGTP02 already has a 2012 Sonic LTZ sedan on his channel.
I like the aveo interior MUCH better, looks way more luxurious!
9:45 Thank you! Goodbye!
Door panels look significantly better on the AVEO?
Is this still based heavily off the Daewoo?
Well that's on you. Car and Driver placed the Sonic above the Nissan Versa, Hyundai Accent, Kia Rio5, and Toyota Yaris, all of which have been recently updated. It's also garnered praise against the Ford Fiesta. This is a quality GM compact, times have changed.
@RonnyKohlmann what do expect from a subcompact car?
@RonnyKohlmann its a subcompact what do you expect?
it will be cool if they keep the design of the gauges in the up coming genration corvette
beautiful, strong, sport and cheap. I love this car. when will it come to Vietnam?
When doea be do the engine bay of the sonic
Is there anyway that yo could do the hatchback version?
@Mds9608 forget the impala , chevy already came out with the "caprice 9c1 police package" it will come out as a civilan model later ,but its a big ass V8 RWD with a nice pair of testies on it , i already test drove them ,based on GM HOLDEN platform, with a big o'l USBUILT V8 BLOCK
@Scorch1007 How is the 2012 Focus better looking? Have you seen it? The 2008-2011 was waaaay better
not a bad car I like it
Which car is this supposed to replace? The Aveo?
@brooklynboiz congrats on your sonic!
Can you order this car with the 1.4 turbocharge engine with out the manual transmission?
i love this car maybe my first
@djkt2 We're supposed to get the Spark in America soon, but not right now.
How do you like it so far? I may be getting one in the next few days.
Solstice Moon Did you get it?
So cool!!
