Love your vibrant energy Lucy! You upload good videos with lots of useful information. Thank You! ps. my gardens are buried under 2 feet of snow and more coming.🥰
Oh goodness me! I know you've all had a chilly winter over there! 🥶 I hope it warms up soon so you can begin the growing season. Thank you so much for those kind words.
I did kind of cheat with the doubled tomatoes but thought it was important to get across the different growing characteristics! Will have to make the smallest growing crops ever or something soon 😂
I generally grow in ground because I have the space. I've done containers for a few things before, though. In my climate, potatoes are probably best done in containers, as it gets hot quickly once things begin to warm up enough for them to put on any growth. Using containers means an earlier start and the ability to move the plants into partial shade once things begin to heat up. More generally, I suggest hot peppers (chilis, I suppose, for Brits). They're fairly good at tolerating the sort of water stress that will probably be the biggest issue to overcome for those trying to grow melons and large tomatoes in containers.
Thank you for leaving your recommendations - yes, in the UK, moisture isn't usually a concern but in drier places melons and other plants might not be so suitable! Thank you for those alternative crops - great for first timers too who worry about watering!
Oh that's not fun! I wouldn't give up - and watering wise my advice would be, if the pot feels light to hold, it needs a good water - or if the soil is pulling away from the pot, it's another really good sign it needs water. I hope you get some lovely strawberries this year 🤞
@younggroundgrows I don't give up easily...I am trying again. I container grow a lot of things. One year I even tried corn ...I don't recommend it for balcony but it did grow
You need to go a bit bigger (think potato growbags or large fruit tree pots) but you can do it! I grew the lovely melons featured in pots. They would fit in on a balcony, although you'd lose space for tomatoes etc
Thankyou for some more great ideas, fab video!
You are very welcome! Thanks for stopping by - do you have any favourite crops for containers you'd like to add? 😊

I have tried strawberry before...they die...
Oh no! What happens? Container gardening often is a balance of a plant being too wet or too dry.
@@younggroundgrows I think I over watered them , but one died the day after I bought it.
