I've always headcanon C!George as being the someone who doesn't really understand emotions and feelings most of the time so i decided to explore that more for Rerwite!George.
Basically, him and Dream have feelings for each other since the beginning. But, while Dream was noticeably affectionate towards him, George on the other hand was both confused on how to return his feelings and was scared of it as well.
This caused him to basically broke Dream's heart many times by essentially giving him mixed messages.
Enter, Wilbur, and suddenly Dream's attention was no longer on him and of course, this caused him to lash out. He did ended up just giving up and leaving them be although his feelings for Dream never left.
Heartbroken but content as long a Dream was happy with Wilbur.
But ofcourse, if you already know Rewrite's storyline, then you know what happened next :)))))

Hello, so decided to make this incase people get confused on what's happening in the vid :)
First, I've seen alot of people thinking that George pushed Dream away to protect him. And well, that's not really the case, he's just really, really, really crap at dealing with his emotions
Him finally letting Dream and Wilbur be together though was his own way to keep the promise he made as a child to protect Dream.
Second, whose fault is this really? Just with my theme with rewrite (and also canon from what I've seen) everyone has contributed to the downfall. So, although yes the video itself showed George being an a*hole that does not mean that Dream is way better for him, same thing also applies to the other way around.
And finally, the ending. When George said Wilbur made the same mistake he did he's basically talking about everything that happened in "Let You Go". Where, in his eyes, Wilbur did what he did to Dream and broke his heart

In my opinion it George's fault for rejecting Dream and then wanting to be with him when he found out that Dream had a crush on Wilbur
Like even if he was protecting him he shouldn't have pushed Dream away.That what causes him to rely on Wilbur and than had his heart broken again.😭
