He started meowing REALLY loudly and after a minute or so the last son of the mother cat came running (I suppose he called for him to come) and they both went inside, going to the mother and wanted to look at her again. It was so precious, like they congratulated her on the birth. It was almost surreal!

Not a hint of hunting posture or threat response. His ears are alert but not fearful. He is tactful, waiting for a kitten to turn its back before sniffing it deeply, which is a bonding behavior. He relaxes and dabs at the kitten to gauge its playfulness then smells his own paw. He is beautiful inside, and out!

I have two Cats; Sam the male and Lexy a female. They had kittens and the whole time she was giving birth he was licking her to groom her and was by her side. Not their offspring... other male cat's offspring. Generally, they don't eat them; they just kill them. This happens in the wild, and is a form of preserving the dominance of their genetic lines. They only do it to newborns; once the kittens are several weeks old they are in little danger from "non-dad" males.
I fed a feral cat and her four kittens - could pet one kitten, but Mom and other 3 would run. When the kittens were 6-7 weeks old, I heard terrible screams from the back deck one night. An unfamiliar scroungy Tomcat had the kittens cornered, Mom nowhere to be seen (she never did come back). Kits were more afraid of the Tom than me, and I was able to grab them, one at a time, and get them inside (where they freaked for several hours). 3 kittens were girls, one was a boy, and he'd messed all over himself. He was a little shocky and (thankfully) let me clean him up. I have no doubt that Tom was going to kill them, at least the little male. We litter trained them and tamed them and found homes for two. The dog and one kitten fell in love at first sight (shown in my profile pic). The fourth one stayed with us, unsure she'd give up her feral card. Eighteen months later, she's a sweetheart and a snuggler. Maybe a pet tomcat would be different, but I would never trust a wild tomcat with kittens of any age.

@Real Victoria, you're not far off. It's been proven that lion daddies do that with their cubs, and that's acting hurt and roaring in "pain" to boost their cubs' confidence. So cute :)

well they DO eat their offspring in some cases. just because this happened doesnt mean it doesnt happen.

Not their offspring... other male cat's offspring. Generally, they don't eat them; they just kill them. This happens in the wild, and is a form of preserving the dominance of their genetic lines. They only do it to newborns; once the kittens are several weeks old they are in little danger from "non-dad" males.

I fed a feral cat and her four kittens - could pet one kitten, but Mom and other 3 would run. When the kittens were 6-7 weeks old, I heard terrible screams from the back deck one night. An unfamiliar scroungy Tomcat had the kittens cornered, Mom nowhere to be seen (she never did come back). Kits were more afraid of the Tom than me, and I was able to grab them, one at a time, and get them inside (where they freaked for several hours). 3 kittens were girls, one was a boy, and he'd messed all over himself. He was a little shocky and (thankfully) let me clean him up. I have no doubt that Tom was going to kill them, at least the little male. We litter trained them and tamed them and found homes for two. The dog and one kitten fell in love at first sight (shown in my profile pic). The fourth one stayed with us, unsure she'd give up her feral card. Eighteen months later, she's a sweetheart and a snuggler. Maybe a pet tomcat would be different, but I would never trust a wild tomcat with kittens of any age.
