GREAT information! Setting up class plan templates will be a great time-saver and offer my students consistency. I look forward to implementing all of your suggestions.
Thank you very much. This was video number one in my "learning to use Zoom to teach" video tour. I teach about 40 students (in person) per class all day long, and am looking to enable myself to teach online, too. Thank you again. Liked. Subscribed.
@@CharliesLessons I don't know what a breakout room is. Assuming that is a room into which only some of the students go, then no. 40 students start and finish in the same room. Here the students sit in columns, usually six of them. There are 6-7 kids in a column. When I want inter-team or intra-team activities, I ask them to move their desks so that they face one another. Other than that, they remain in their respective columns all through the lesson. It poses significant challenges to the usual ESL orthodoxy, to put it mildly. As this country follows its own ideals for English classes, and not the ideals asserted by ESL professionals, this is what everyone is used to. I can tell you, though, that once you are used to it, and once you know how to play the system to i(and the kids') advantage, it is not as insurmountable a problem as it may appear. If the teacher loves this work, and understands what a privilege it is to have so many minds focused one person as I do, then it can be positively rewarding...and some days just a pile of steaming sh1t! 40 kids laughing at your jokes and trying to do what you require of them is Heavenly, though 40 kids looking like they want to sleep or die... not so much.
So the students are not connecting online then? The students are in a physical classroom and YOU are the one online? Sounds like a hybrid classroom. I can imagine the skills you've learned in overcoming this obstacle will serve you well in the future, I'd put it on your CV for sure!
Ok thank you, I understand. I'm doing my final TP(TESOL LEVEL 5) next week on a grammar guided discovery lesson and think I'll use your idea for the whiteboard for phrasal verbs. You are inspirational! @@CharliesLessons
Thanks for sharing How to switch to the classic whiteboard. At first as soon as i shared the whiteboard i had the option for classic or the new but now i can't use the classic whiteboard but only the new one
This is so helpful. Charlie, do you have any suggestions for how I can use the Zoom and the Whiteboard for my student whom I teach via Zoom - and whose greatest need is conversation.
Use images or short texts on the whiteboard to spark conversations. For example, share a picture and ask students to describe it, tell a story related to it, or discuss their feelings about it.
Thanks for sharing I have zoom basic and they just made some changes but when i share photos i see only my self not my student and i can't annotate but my student can ..(i m on the ipad )
Hi! Do you use Slide presentations? Also, how do you make individual whiteboards? Do you have them prepared before class and distribute it as pictures for ss to individually work on themm?
I will often use Google Slides if I can't find the right material elsewhere. I assume you mean individual whiteboards on Zoom, if you have a premium account you can make multiple whiteboards but with a basic account you can only make a maximum of 3, so it's not viable. Your idea of making them as PDFs or PNGs, works better as it means you can make lots of them. I would share them with individuals or for groups, it depends on the type of task.
My whiteboard has huge lag between my pen and the screen of my Ipad. If I use something else like PowerPoint, then it’s fine but the Zoom Whiteboard is just impossible.
Thank you for your interest but my teaching program is currently in production. If you join my RUclips channel then you would get a discount when the course is launched.
Thanks for the informative video! Are students working collaboratively and you write the answers for the Stop the Bus game? Or do all students work on a separate whiteboard ?
For the Stop the Bus game, the teacher usually controls the whiteboad. But for future games you could allow the students access to the whiteboard and let them lead the game.
My New Whiteboard does not allow "share computer sound". That's a huge disadvantage in teaching. I wrote to customer support, but for 2 weeks I've been getting vague, general replies by robots, I guess. I've had a subsription for years and now I am pretty disappointed. I might have to reconsider using Zoom all together.
Hey Avigail, firstly, if you have a basic Zoom account you won't be able to make more than 3 whiteboards at a time. So if you have more than 3 students, you could have some problems there! But when you create a new whiteboard there should be a blue share button in the top right hand corner. You can add their email address or if you've set it to edit, you can copy the link and send that to the student too.
GREAT information! Setting up class plan templates will be a great time-saver and offer my students consistency. I look forward to implementing all of your suggestions.

Awesome ideas, Charlie! The one with the vocabulary is so simple yet so effective. And thank you so much for sharing the templates. 😊

Did you say 40 students per class? Wow, that's a lot.
Thanks again for liking and subscribing, I hope my videos continue to help you!
@@CharliesLessons Yes, 40 per class, and that's in a public middle school.
I am sure I will continue to enjoy your videos and benefit from them, too.
I was going to ask if you worked in a public school. With that number of students, you must use breakout rooms a lot!!

Only drawing and placing objects.
OMG! This video is SO awesome!! This will be great for my classes!!!!!!!!!!!!
Charlie, what a stunning presentation. I hope to conquer! Huge thanks!
You can do it!
@@CharliesLessons Thanks so much for taking the time, Charlie!
I like your idea using a whiteboard for phrasal verbs. Do you have any lesson I can view where you have done this please with phrasal verbs?
I'm afraid I'm not able to share lessons with my students due to privacy issues.

How to switch to the classic whiteboard. At first as soon as i shared the whiteboard i had the option for classic or the new but now i can't use the classic whiteboard but only the new one
Go to settings, In Meeting (Basic), then Whiteboard (Classic), then uncheck the box where it says Use Whiteboard by default if available.
@@CharliesLessons very helpful thanks
Thank you for responding to the following question: When I share document in Arabic on new board does not show correctly; I want to know why
You'd have to contact Zoom directly for that.

My whiteboard has huge lag between my pen and the screen of my Ipad. If I use something else like PowerPoint, then it’s fine but the Zoom Whiteboard is just impossible.
This must be because the Zoom whiteboard is launched within the browser. Try reducing the number of tabs open and/or deleting cache.
@@CharliesLessons I will try and let you know. Thank you so much!

Unless you can paste a question on whiteboard its useless
Pretty sure if you open a text box, you can paste your question directly in there.
Mean paste a picture
